• An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.
  • We've issued a clarification on our policy on AI-generated work.
  • Our mod selection process has completed. Please welcome our new moderators.
  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

Change, its happening, and we don't get a say in it.

Ive been noticing some shifts in the way Moderation is enforced on this site, shifts in the types of things that are now deemed forbidden that were previously acceptable, shifts in what is or isn't tolerated and the agendas that must not be named that push those changes. The surge of swift and ruthless moderation made possibly by recent recruitment has really driven this home.

It makes me think back, way back, to the reason this site exists, the reason we are all here and not still back over there where the makers of this site came from when they rebelled and struck out on their own to make a place to belong. Where freedom of speech was actually a thing we were allowed to have.

Even this much, saying this little, is explicitly a punishable offence over there because that is how far they have cracked down on our freedoms. It is explicitly a rule on that site that the rulings of moderators cannot be questioned or challenged publicly or with transparency. They must be argued first with the one who accused you, then with one of their allies, and it must be done in their secret backrooms that only they can see. And when punishments cant be discussed in public view, well, "We have investigated ourselves and have found no evidence of wrongdoing. We have however determined that you are guilty of wasting our time and shall be punished more as a warning to others not to challenge our authority."

Is it already too late? Has our sites moderation already been taken over, by Them?

Are the gestapo already here?

Has it already slipped to the point where they feel so utterly untouchable that i will be punished for giving voice to my concerns as it already has over there?

Stop throwing innuendo and say what you want to say.
I am being careful with my wording in an attempt to avoid violating several rules. But ill try.

Maybe im being paranoid but i suspect that whatever conclusions you've come to about what i am talking about, you believe you are on the other side of the issue, and are trying to instigate a response you can use to persecute me. Though you probably don't see it that way. I see this as the root of the problem. A desire to wield authority to silence dissent rather than risk being exposed to that which you do not approve.

I believe that many of the rules implemented over the last few years should not exist and are deeply unconstitutional. Further, they are a betrayal of the founding tenets of this very site.

QQ was created by a group of individuals fleeing from harsh restrictive moderation that was stifling the stories they wished to write and the conversations they wished to have.

I am a Freedom of Speech absolutist. I believe people should be allowed to say whatever they want to say and be judged accordingly. Express opinions that those in power don't approve of and be supported or mocked as appropriate. Enter into debates on subjects that are unsavory or otherwise taboo and be allowed the chance to argue their position and face the consequences to their reputation of doing so. But so many of these things are being overly moderated and regulated past rational limits to coddle the irrationally sensitive whiny few.

I don't personally feel a need to say many of the things that will get you punished for saying. But i resent moderation that prevents you from saying it.

There are many things that are against the rules that i don't feel a need to do. But i resent moderation that punishes you for doing it.

Many are the things that will now draw punitive measures and enforce an unnatural silence where they used to be openly accepted or if genuinely despicable, would let everyone know exactly what kind of person you really are.

Things are changing and the direction has given me cause for concern.

EDIT: I do however find it rather amazing that one of the first people to comment joined the site on the same day i did. The odds are absurd since there are only a few hundred accounts that have been around longer than us.

No it wasn't. It was created by four people who wanted a forum where you could post adult content, which SB didn't allow, and SV didn't yet exist, so they had to make it themselves.

None of the founders were being persecuted on SB. Heck, they weren't even SB members first and foremost. They came over from The Fanfiction Forum because the only moderator there disappeared, leaving it a completely unmoderated hellhole where no new accounts could be made and rule-breaking behavior was out of control. Just to completely invalidate the entire premise of your complaint.

You've created this elaborate storyline that fits your views, but it's a complete fabrication.

QQ exists for porn and fanfiction. Don't post your weird, shitty politcs. Don't argue with people about politcs. Don't whine about freeze peach or what constitutes a slur, and just fucking read and enjoy the smut.

You aren't being persecuted.

I will point out QQ's "contribution" during the SB CW purge, which is that it existed and so was convenient for people needing a place to stay, makes this a more common misconception rather than something being wholly fabricated for the sake of the "controversy" being espoused in thread. It's still wrong mind you, but it's something that's a bit more wide spread than just this thread.

I forget the exact timeline here but QQ was put up before the SB CW purge but not that long before to the point that it appeared that the two events happened concurrently even though they didn't. Which is where the confusion stems from.

Bro what specific incident has hurt your fee-fees?
Alosnide Jordion breaking one of the golden rules of the Internet:
Don't feed the trolls.

He argued in puplic with a mod that he got off light, ignoring the warning he had just gotten when someone else opened a thread to complain.

Simply a Rule 1 violation that was the tipping point of his general attitude.
Jord got hit for being an idiot and people are crying about the tyranny of mods.

No. New
People often forget that QQ is a benevolent dictatorship that was founded so that people could share their NSFW Content - primarily writing, but to a lesser extent art - and be excellent to each other. It was not founded to cater to people's specific whims, or to be a place to discuss everything under the sun - though as long as people are willing to be excellent to each other, that is generally allowed in the appropriate threads. The rules as they currently exist are all extensions of those founding principles - places that people have proven to the staff that they are not able to be excellent about something, continually, to the point that more clear guidance is now universally applied.
Questionable Questing is not, and never has been, a "free speech zone." It is a benevolent dictatorship, which allows what we believe is best for the user base as a whole. This thread will go nowhere good fast, and as such, is now locked. If you believe this to be in error, feel free to write an appeal. Do not start a new thread on this topic outside appeals.
