So, we've been on this pandemic for over an year now, and the use of webcams for everything from classes, work, doctor "visits" and more have been going through webcams. So, gonna ask ya, when it comes to being an online video call or conference that only shows your head and upper torso, what do you wear below the belt? :p

I wear pants or shorts. I honestly don't get why people might NOT wear something below the belt while on webcam.

Pants are uncomfortable and if your webcam is aimed carefully enough not to show any of that, and you are careful enough not to suddenly stand up without first turning off the video feed, why not?

Now, yes, risk-benefit analysis is probably important: If you're a primary school teacher, do wear something, if only because accidents might lead to the sex offender registry. If you have a very formal work environment and accidents would lead to, at best, a meeting with HR, probably wear at least the minimum they call appropriate.

But if the only consequence is potentially some of embarrassment, why not? :p

I personally don't find pants to be uncomfortable, and I usually wear them at home, even formal pants like dress pants. So I guess I'll just chalk that up to a difference of personal taste. :)

Here I was wondering if I was being risky because I didn't bother to get my dress shoes out of the closet when I had a webcam job interview.
I did wear slacks however.

That said, I find that shorts, slacks, or sweats can be perfectly comfortable, but jeans can be uncomfortable when sitting for a while. Odd, since I used to wear jeans all the time in the winter when I was in school. It was practically the school uniform for boys from kindergarten through college.
Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but at least 40% of the boys were wearing blue jeans and probably another 26% were wearing black jeans.

Greatly depends on what I am doing.

College? Sweat pants are good enough.

Doctor? Jeans will do.

Family call? Underwear. I don't get up.

Long distance relationship? (This hasn't appened since Covid began.) Nude with a towel underneath, because I don't want my bare ass on the seat.

Depends~ Normally it fluctuates between Nothing and Underwear

If you've never been stuck on a zoom call, desperate for a drink but unable to get up and get it because you're not wearing anything below the waist, I wouldn't recommend it.

I agree with the "depends".
Job interview nice pants
almost everything else jeans or cargo shorts, depending on the season
Ya this sums it up really well, for some reasons I wore exactly what I would for an interview or at least jeans for bottoms. But for everything else I just wear what ever I feel like at the time. Most of the time I even keep the camera off.

My work environment is chill so there is no dress code while on video chat with the rest of the team or the department, the department head likes for us to turn on the camera for the weekly department meeting, or at least when it's our turn to give a status update and most people wear cloths similar to what you would while relaxing outside the house from casual dress shirts to tracksuits.
