I thought I would make something like this because: I personally would have loved something like this when I started reading fanfiction, there are still occasionally terms I encounter that I don't know or can't remember, I have a small list-making-addiction, and I haven't seen any other threads like this on this site (I could have just missed them though).
(This is my first thread, I actually read the rules of a Forum for the first time ever to make this thread. Until now I've gotten by on internet forums purely on the idea of "Don't be a dick". I gave up my reading-a-forum's-rules-and-FAQs virginity for this! So you better be grateful! *Tsundere noises*)

If a term or acronym isn't in my big list below, feel free to ask, I will (eventually) try to answer, or some other person might see and answer, after which I will add it to the list. If I find a term I don't know and am having trouble finding out, I might ask here myself. If you know what a term means that someone else has asked about, feel free to answer, and if someone else has already answered, but you know of a different meaning that you think might be more likely to be correct, feel free to mention that as well (be nice though please). If you feel you have a better definition for something on this list than what I already have, feel free to suggest it and I will (probably) replace the original meaning with your new one or add your new meaning as an alternate option (I can even give you credit if you want, if you don't want to be credited with a definition in the big list, please say so, otherwise I will be crediting you).

I will probably add more terms and acronyms to this list as I get free time and think of them (those do have to happen simultaneously, I have to think of something to add to this while I have free time, cause I ain't gonna remember afterwards). I will likely be making heavy use of the Edit button over time to add things to this list (unless a mod or admin tells me not to, in which case I will immediately surrender and meekly obey).

If you use CTRL+F to search: *Better Description Wanted* you will find the entries I feel certain I can't describe well, or that I feel my description sucked. As you might imagine, the ones labeled with that are ones I would like a better description for.

Eventually, this list may get rather large depending on how much people interact with the thread and ask about terms, so:
Use CTRL+F to find a term you are looking for (example: type "QQ -" in the CTRL+F search bar, without the quotations, to find the term QQ, the space and dash will appear after all entries so that it doesn't highlight unrelated instances)

Without further ado: The List!

SFW - Safe For Work. This theoretically means what it sounds like (as in, 'looking at this while at work probably won't get me fired or socially humiliated'), but really it means 'no nudity or sex' nowadays.

NSFW - Not Safe For Work. The opposite of SFW. Nowadays it usually means 'contains nudity or sex, or erotic near-nudity'. It is often used to mean 'you should be at least 18 years old if you want to look at this'. Not to be confused with NSW, which is "New South Wales" oddly enough.

Fanfiction and Fanfiction adjacent Websites

QQ - Questionable Questing (this site). Things in the NSFW section will not show up on search engines, the NSFW section requires an account to interact with, but anyone can read things in the SFW section. There are some stories exclusive to QQ, many of which are in the NSFW section and thus can't be seen with a search engine (as far as I'm aware anyways, there might be a way to see those with a search engine but I don't know how).

SB - Space Battles, a site like this one but exclusively SFW, contains some stories that are not on any other site, but does not allow VPNs when making an account, so some people have been unable and/or unwilling to make an account there. (Authors looking for feedback usually don't post exclusively there).

SV - Sufficient Velocity, another site like this, but with mostly SFW content. There are some stories exclusive to SV.

RR - Royal Road, a site for authors to share their stories (for free) online. These are mostly original stories, but some are fanfictions (fanfictions are explicitly marked as such). Not a forum, though I believe it does have a forum section within the site.

SH - Scribble Hub, a site similar to Royal Road that has original stories and fanfictions.

AO3 - Archive Of Our Own. The 3 is meant to represent that there are 3 words starting with "O" in a row. A site mostly for fanfiction, but containing some original works. This site contains A LOT of NSFW material, but it also has a lot of SFW stories. Just don't introduce a 6 year old to this site then leave them unattended (or if you do just don't blame me). The site does have proper warnings before you are allowed to access anything NSFW, but I know a lot of people ignore those, so I'm trying to cover my bases.

FF - Fanfiction. This may refer to the concept or the site Fanfiction.net, which as you might guess, is a website dedicated to fanfiction.

FF.net - This explicitly refers to the website Fanfiction.net.

WN - This may refer to other things, but it likely refers to the website "Webnovel", which contains both fanfictions and original stories, but has a poor reputation for a variety of reasons that I won't go into here (I will say to do some research on it if you are considering posting a story there, especially if it is an original story instead of a fanfiction).

Fandom Acronyms and Terms

ASOIAF - A Song of Ice and Fire, a fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin.

GOT - Game Of Thrones, the TV adaption of the series A Song of Ice and Fire.

HOTD - House of the Dragon, a series set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire but taking place much earlier in the timeline.

LotR - Lord of the Rings, likely the most famous fantasy series of all time, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. (May also use LOTR)

SW - Star Wars (probably). I hope you know what this is.

KOTOR - Knights of the Old Republic. This is a Star Wars video game set in the Old Republic, over a thousand years before the events of the Star Wars movies.

MtG - Magic the Gathering, a popular fantasy card game.

WoW - World of Warcraft, a long running MMORPG fantasy game. It used to be sometimes considered the most popular video game of all time. (MMO - means Massive Multiplayer Online, and indicates a game where many people are playing online within the same world simultaneously, and RPG - means Role Playing Game, and if you don't know what that means exactly, you should probably look it up because I can't fit the definition in here).

LoL - League of Legends (no, not laugh out loud). Sometimes considered the most popular video game of all time. Was heavily inspired by World of Warcraft.

OP - One Piece (a very-long-running manga and anime about pirates), or Original Poster (the person to make a thread, for this thread I would be considered the OP), or Over Powered (a term used to indicate a character is extremely strong within the world the story takes place).

JJK - Jujutsu Kaisen. A manga and anime about Sorcerers using Cursed Energy.

MHA - My Hero Academia, a manga and anime story about kids learning in school how to be superheroes.

BNHA - Boku No Hero Academia, literally just another way of saying My Hero Academia.

DxD - Highschool DxD, an anime and light novel series about an extremely perverted boy discovering the supernatural is real, and involves just about every mythology and religion there is. Nobody really knows what the DxD actually means or stands for (that's a joke, but surprisingly close to true. I'm not 100% certain what exactly it stands for personally, but I think it is some combination of Deus, Devil, and Dragon for the D's, with the 'x' just meaning "and")

DnD - Dungeons and Dragons, a popular fantasy tabletop RPG.

MCU - Marvel Cinematic Universe, the world in which the more recent Marvel Movies take place (The world where Avengers Infinity Wars and Avengers Endgame took place is the MCU)

DC - Detective Comics. This is the world of the Justice League, Teen Titans, the Watchmen, and The Boys.

DCEU - DC Extended Universe.

DCAU - DC Animated Universe.

YJ - Young Justice. A cartoon series about the sidekicks and younger generation counterparts of the Justice League.

YS - Youjo Senki, also known as Saga of Tanya the Evil and A Young Girl's War Chronicles.

PJO - Percy Jackson and the Olympians. A series about the demigod children of the Greek gods in the modern day.

HoO - Heroes of Olympus, a sequel series to Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

HP - Harry Potter (depending on context, it could be Hit Points or Health Points of course).

WH - Warhammer. A tabletop game with a Sci-Fi setting in the far future and a Fantasy setting.

WH30K - Warhammer 30K, the Warhammer version set in the year 30,000.

WH40K - Warhammer 40K, the Warhammer version set in the year 40,000.

SAO - Sword Art Online. A Light Novel and Anime series about a group of people trapped in a virtual reality video game, where if they die in the game, they die in real life.

FEH - Fire Emblem Hearts. I'm gonna be honest, I know basically nothing about this, but I'm pretty sure Marth, Roy, and Ike from Super Smash Bros are from the Fire Emblem Series.

FE3 - Fire Emblem 3. See above for the extent of my knowledge.

FE3H - Fire Emblem Three Houses. I'm not even sure FE3 is real now, what is with these acronyms people?

BA - Blue Archive. I know next to nothing about this one as well, but I think this is a Waifu Collecting Gacha game. I think it is set in a school with only one male person in the entire school, who is a teacher, which is kinda creepy now that I think about it.

RWBY - RWBY, not actually an acronym. This is a show, it is named after the Hunter team of the main characters, which is team RWBY, named so for the main characters initials from their first names: Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang.

MLP - My Little Pony. A cartoon about magical ponies. Originally targeted at youngish girls, it gained a surprising following from teenage boys and adult men due to its surprisingly good storytelling and relatively mature themes (relatively, because there isn't sex or anything, but there is threats of the world ending, think mature as in Justice League cartoons instead of PowerPuff Girls, though it is somewhere in between those, leaning towards Justice League).

MLP FiM - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The specific show most people refer to when talking about My Little Pony.

BTVS - Buffy The Vampire Slayer. A series about a teenage girl named Buffy going through her life as a Slayer (of things which include but are not limited to vampires) in the modern day.

IS - Infinite Stratos. A Light Novel and Anime series about a guy who can use mecha suits when only girls are supposed to be able to (the mecha suits are probably closer to power armor than someone hearing "mecha" is likely to picture).

FSN - Fate Stay Night. Or Fate/Stay Night. A story about 7 magi in Japan each summoning a figure from history or myth to help them in a battle royale with the winner getting a single wish.

F/SN - Fate/Stay Night. Literally exactly the same thing as above this, just another way it might be written.

FGO - Fate Grand Order. A Waifu Collecting Gacha Game set in the same franchise as Fate Stay Night. Has had anime and movie adaptations. An organization of magi are trying to use time travel to prevent the destruction of the world.

F/GO - Fate/Grand Order. Again, exactly what is written above this, just another way you might see it written.

DMC - Devil May Cry. A video game series about two Nephilim, Dante and Vergil, who are half demon and half angel.

DBZ - Dragon Ball Z. Probably the most famous manga and anime of all time. The sequel to Dragon Ball.

MGLN - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. I know nothing about this aside from it containing magical girls, and presumably singing and someone named Nanoha. *Better Description Wanted*.

TOW - The Owl House. I know literally nothing about this aside from it being a cartoon and probably having a female main character. *Better Description Wanted*.

NGE - Neon Genesis Evangelion. An Anime about giant mechas fighting aliens. Apparently has upbeat music but is extremely dark. *Better Description Wanted*

WoD - World of Darkness. I have literally never heard of this outside of seeing it mentioned in a fanfiction once. *Better Description Wanted*

ATLA - Avatar: The Last Airbender. A cartoon about a boy who is what is known as the Avatar, which means he can bend all four elements instead of only one (the four elements being Water, Earth, Fire, and Air).

ALOK - Avater: Legend of Korra. The sequel series to Avatar the Last Airbender. This is about the next avatar, a girl named Korra.

LOK - Legend of Korra. This is the same as above, just another way you might see it written. (I'm told LOK is also the name of a popular/iconic hentai game in the furry community named Legend of Krystal (Krystal is apparently the name of a female fox character in Star Fox (I've never played Star Fox, I wouldn't know since I've never seen her in Super Smash Bros)). If I'm being trolled on this, I'd appreciate it if someone would let me know so I can tell the person that told me this how disappointed I am in them).

ATLOK - Avatar The Legend of Korra. You might be noticing a theme with these last few.

TLOK - The Legend of Korra. And that's all the variations I've seen of people turning that show's name into an acronym.

SMT - Shin Megami Tensei. I know literally nothing about this, aside from I think it might be a game series. *Better Description Wanted*

PMMM - Puella Magi Madoka Magica. A magical girl anime... I think. That's literally all I know about this. *Better Description Wanted*

SI - Self Insert. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH Reader Insert. I personally had the two mixed up for years and ignored many stories I would have liked because the first time I encountered the term it was used incorrectly. A Self Insert is theoretically where the main character of a story is a copy or near-copy of the author (at least in terms of what decisions the character makes at the beginning of the story before their experiences change them), but in practice it has often come to mean "The Main Character of this story is someone from our Earth or a close copy of it, that has been transported to another world where the story itself takes place".

OC - Original Character. Just what it sounds like, a character that is not in the original story that was made up by the fanfiction author for their story.

OCI - Original Character Insert. This is the logical mix of the two above. An Original Character transported to the world where the story takes place. The next few all have similar meanings:
OCSI - see above
OC-SI - see above
SIOC - see above
SI-OC - see above

Reader Insert - A story where the reader is the main character, usually told in second person (Second person is things written in the manner of "You hear a branch crack behind you").

FI - Friend Insert. This generally means that a Friend of the author is Inserted into a given story, much like a Self Insert. My understanding is that usually the friend is mostly or completely unfamiliar with the story they are being inserted into, and the author will be extremely familiar with the story, and will often write the story by asking their friend "what would you do in this situation", kind of like a DnD campaign, or a one-person Quest story.

AU - Alternate Universe. This indicates that something about the world the fanfiction takes place in is different from the source material (examples include characters not being their original gender, characters not being their original age, characters having significantly different backstories or personalities, locations being changed, factions being added or removed, etc.).

AH - Alternate History. This means something happened in the story (far enough into the past to be considered "history) that significantly changed the setting (the classic example is "the nazis won World War II).

CG - Chaos Gacha is the most likely meaning.

WC - Waifu Catalog is the most likely meaning.

CYOA - Choose Your Own Adventure. A highly misleading term, this generally refers to when the author of a story used a CYOA as a writing prompt, and usually does not mean that the story actually lets you choose what you want to happen. (For more details, there are subreddits dedicated to CYOAs if you are curious and/or want examples).

GM - Golden Morning (most likely, this could be Game Master, but Golden Morning is more likely). Golden Morning refers to a specific event that occurred at the finale of the online web novel Worm.

Post GM - Post Golden Morning. Exactly what it sounds like, it means the story takes place after the events of Golden Morning happened in the Worm webnovel.

HFY - Humanity, Fuck Yeah. A genre or tag in which humanity doesn't suck (that's how you know it's fiction), and generally has some sort of advantage over aliens (either the space kind or the other-dimensional kind). Usually has a triumphant theme.

TOF - Tinker of Fiction. Tinker is one of the power classifications from the story Worm, and refers to people whose power lets them build things more advanced than conventional human technology. A Tinker of Fiction is a powerset (not necessarily in Worm) where the person with it will be able to make technology from a variety of fictional worlds, usually with a limit of only being able to build technology from a particular world for a certain amount of time (often two weeks) before they lose access to technology from that world and gain access to a new world they can build things from.

ISOT - Island Stranded Out of Time. Or: Island in the Sea Of Time. A story where there is a person - or more frequently, place - that is separated from the normal timeline of its world.

Okay, I've run out of time/steam for now, so this will be the extent of the list... For Now (mwahahahahaha).

I'll volunteer some to add:

ENF - Embarrassed Naked Female. A story where unlikely situations are contrived so that a female protagonist or side character ends up naked in a public place (usually through no fault of her own), and has to hurry to cover herself and reach safety before anyone sees her or else she will die of embarrassment.

NTR - Netorare (the rarest kind of neto), the Japanese word for cuckoldry. Specifically the cases where the waifu is stolen away from the cuck to his shame and humiliation.

NTS - Netorase, a variant of NTR where the cuck is a happy participant in having his waifu stolen, or even actively shares her around.

2D - drawings of people.

3D - real people (e.g. porn stars).

-----------------

Some Japanese terms that get thrown around a lot:

omake - an "extra"; added content that is adjacent to a fic or supplementary, but not officially part of the story. Like a DVD extra.

manhwa - the Korean word for a manga. This term refers to mangas made in Korea. Supposedly they also need to have "systems" or some crap. I don't know, I don't read them.

eroge - a porn game. Ero for erotic, Ge for game (not gay).

otome - "maiden". Usually refers to a genre of games (otoge) with a female protagonist and very little skill challenge if any, where the game is mainly about selecting a compatible romantic partner from a handful of archetypal options.

hentai - pervert. That's you, for liking hentai anime. Shame on you. :V

henshin - A genre of anime/manga where the protagonist can trigger a flashy magical transformation sequence to go from a normal person into a superhero or superheroine in order to fight monsters or whatever. Just like Sailor Moon does. Moon... prism... powaaaahhh~ (make up)

shonen - "Few years". Refers to a young man or teenage boy. Also a genre of anime/manga aimed at a teenage male audience, particularly in the 14-17 age range (eg. Dragonball Z).

shojo - Female form of shonen: a young woman or teen girl. Now, would a martial arts gym for teen girls be called a Shojodojo? I don't know, I never asked.

bishonen - A prettyboy. Often times so pretty that he is mistaken for a girl by the untrained western eye. Max charisma stat.

bishojo - A pretty girl. Dating sim games are sometimes marketed using this term. Like, "look at all the pretty girls you can pick from! Too bad none of them are real"

shota / shotacon - A pre-teen boy, usually in the 9-12 age range. Usually paired with older women like a teacher or a "landlady".

loli / lolicon - Short for Lolita. Just like the novel, and the.... airplane.

chuuni - A middle-schooler. i.e. 12-13 age range. Especially an insufferable one, see below.

chuunibyo - "Middle years disease". The term for what afflicts kids in that age range who have a deluded sense of their own importance and dramatize every interaction with people. "I'm the Queen of this land and by my magic powers I decree-", that sort of crap. Some people like to play along with this sort of thing, like a game of make believe. idk.

neko - some kind of halfway cat furry where only the ears, hands, feet, and tail are actually furry and the rest is hairless human skin (save for head hair and pubes). It's a compromise for those who like a little bit of an animal nature to make the character feel exotic but they don't want to get rugburn from the parts that matter.

yaoi - Gay romance porn. Usually with a strong focus on romance because it's intended for girls to consume.

yuri - Lesbian romance porn. I prefer my lesbians 3D to be honest, but to each their own.

uke - A gay bottom. Very often acts like a femboy, as an insert for the female reader.

seme - A gay top. Often the uke's senpai, or possibly a misunderstood bully.

fujoshi - "Rotten girl". A girl who perverts her mind with yaoi manga instead of pursuing a relationship in the real world.

hikikomori - a shut-in. These people are so terrified of social judgement that they will spend years never leaving their home, just getting fast food and new manga issues delivered to their door.

senpai - someone senior by a few years who can act as a mentor while also still being a peer. Typically it comes up in a school setting as someone from an upper year, or in a workplace as someone with a bit more seniority. A common basis for romance plots. But only if there is sufficient noticing.

onii-chan - "big bro". If a girl in a manga calls her brother this, they are going to... this thread is in the SFW section.

tsundere - someone (usually female) who is initially cold and hostile (and maybe even violent) to the (male) protagonist but then falls in love with him and becomes completely devoted to him after he proves his worth to her.

yandere - a psycho-stalker girlfriend (or boyfriend). Like, she will murder other girls just because they smiled at you. Or you smiled at them. Or just looked at them. And don't even think about trying to dump her, that won't end well for you. When gender-swapped, a male yandere is usually just a kidnapper and rapist in a story about Stockholm Syndrome. Search itch.io for free adult games and you'll be inundated with those kinds of stories. It's frankly a little disturbing.

jirai-onna - "Landmine woman". A woman who looks cute and nice but is actually crazy and will ruin your life. So, like a landmine, you don't know what you're stepping in until it explodes.

jirai-kei - "Landmine style". A fashion trend based on the above, where girls at nightclubs will dress overly cute as a form of irony because their personalities are actually very toxic. Or they just want to give off a "danger" signal because some guys find that exciting.

gyaru - a make-up style where the face is darkly tanned except for rings of light skin around the eyes. Also comes with flashy fancy clothes. Supposed to be some kind of extreme take on gaudy western fashion. I don't understand it, it just looks hideous to me. But then, these kinds of Japanese subcultures strike me as looking a little bit like cargo cults obsessed with some aspect of American cultures, like the post-war occupation broke their brains and they need help.

guro - gore porn. People getting ripped apart, beheaded, whatever. Not to be confused with the above, except in the metaphorical sense of what they've done to fashion.

ryona - rough sex or abusive behaviour, usually perpetrated by a man towards a woman. Not to be confused with the hero of Street Fighter.

netori - NTR but from the point of view of the bull. It's not nearly as popular as basic NTR, which should tell you something.
