I'm mostly a lurker, mistly on the creative writing part of the forum, which is why I'd like to receive notificatoons for my watched threads only on threadmarked posts, not any random comment.

Under account > preferences, scroll down to settings by notification category. You've probably got them all on the default setting. Find "replies to to a watched thread", and uncheck "alerts".

This will affect your alerts tab, but not your watched threads page.
