Remember how it was mentioned in the past that after The War of First Contact, various politicians and world leaders tried to shaft the global militaries, which resulted in DC, Moscow, Beijing, London, Paris, and Tokyo to name a few, seeing tanks and armored cars rolling down their streets, and many politicians being thrown out of office or shot? In the aftermath of mankind's most devastating conflict, which left just shy of half of the human race, the global economy utterly wrecked, and many once great cities reduced to ruin, mankind has changed for good and bad. The rationing that began during the war didn't end until decades after, and many former officers and generals went into politics to ensure that the whole trope of "Many years of peace means no chance of war" never happens again. There are still elections, but if any politicians try running on a platform of reducing military spending, or try rolling back something after they get elected...they get an unpleasant visit. Do remember, a very large percentage of humanity in 2081 are either active duty, reserves, or fought in the War of First Contact. Trying to fuck the military over is not going to end well.

This document is Top Secret, and only available to those working in direct relation to the project, or by military, and government officials with Level 3 security clearance.
The following report was written upon the discovery of an as of then unknown object in Greenland, on December 19th, 2080, by an American reconnaissance drone. The drone in question, an older model MQ-4C Triton, was tracking the flight path of the sole surviving Saderan wyvern that survived the Battle of Iceland, which had fled after its rider was shot off. The previous aircraft tracking the wyvern had relayed its position to Thule Air Base, which launched the drone to further track it. Approximately 25 kilometers north of the base, the wyvern was reported to have gone to ground, and landed on a thin patch of ice, which subsequently collapsed under its weight. After spending 15 minutes circling above the sight, no movement was spotted, and the order for retrieval was given. Two platoons, backed by air support, flew to the location of the wyvern, which was found shortly after the team had arrived.
The creature was in no position to move under its own power, as it had been near starvation, and had attained wounds that would later be attributed to a 30mm shell from a naval F/A-32. However it wasn't the creature that is the subject of this report, rather the newly discovered cave system it was found it, and what was located inside of it. Private First Class[REDACTED]had noticed an unusual discoloration of a section of cave wall close to the creature. Once the creature had been subdued and secured, team leaders had taken notice, and alerted command at Thule Air Base. Upon closer examination, it became clear there was an object buried in deep cave walls. Once specialized teams had arrived on site, they had uncovered metal fragments found throughout the cave, with the object itself being the source of said fragments.
Although the main body of the object was still trapped in the walls, whatever it was still managed to set off multiple metal and radiological detection instruments, leading to the closing off of the entire area by UN forces. Over the course of a week, the object was discreetly removed, as well as all metallic fragments that could be found in the cave system, and samples of the ice core were taken for analysis.
Once the object was loaded, it was moved to an undisclosed research facility to uncover the nature and purpose of the object. From what was guessed early on, the object was estimated to have been some type of interstellar probe, based on some similarities it held to much older NASA probes, albeit much larger, and the fact that it was obviously unmanned. The writing on the outer hull was completely unreadable, as well as heavily degraded, due to the crash.
However it was thanks to the ice that it was preserved as well as it had been. Once researchers had begun taking the probe apart, it was very clear it didn't belong to either the Human Race, or the Phauthi. In fact, the technology was rather rudimentary, and primitive compared to examples of technology used today. It seemed more along the lines of late 20th century, just robust in its design. Even some internal components looked nearly identical to older American and Soviet counterparts used in probes during the Cold War.
When the ice core samples had finally come back, there were even more questions raised among those studying the probe. The age of the ice around the probe was estimated to be roughly 900 years old, give or take half a century. This means that the probe had arrived in the mid to late 12th century, a time period marked with the Golden Age of Islam, the age of Cistercians in Europe, and collapse of the Toltec Empire. This not only intrigued, but also terrified many of the researchers working on it, as there was a gap of nearly 1,000 years between its arrival, and the present day.
This was confirmed when multiple photographs were recovered from inside the probe, which displayed a European Crusader in chainmail armor, atop a horse, wielding spear and shield, while another showed an African tribesman chasing down an antelope. But by far the best discovery and most startling was the presence of a single picture still on file within the probe. Despite being heavily deteroritated by nearly 1,000 years of being frozen in ice, a picture which displayed the Battle of Didgori in the 12th century, was uncovered by scientists and computer engineers.
While getting a literal glimpse of the past that far back would make many historians jump with glee, there was much worry for those who found it.
Even now researchers are still attempting to recover more from the probe's inner workings, including any hint as to where it came from, but one thing was made very clear with this discovery. Whoever launched this probe was space faring long before Humanity or the Phauthi had. Both of them were pre industrial species when this probe had arrived on Earth, and its still unclear where it came from, and how long it had traveled through the vacuum of space before arriving. One thing is for certain, the galaxy, and the universe at large, is far from empty. Between us, the Phauthi, and the species they subjugated, and now this 6th unknown alien race, it only adds to the reasons we need to be cautious of our interstellar surroundings. If whoever this probe belonged to is still out there, they will have had nearly a full millennia of technological advancement, while we are just barely starting to reach into the depths of space.
Bear this in mind, and never forget it, we are young species. We've had the ability to put objects into orbit for less than two centuries. When Sputnik was launched into space in 1957, the Phauthi had already conquered their first star system aside from their own, subjugating a second species. The race responsible for sending this probe would have been far beyond them even then, just as they would be ahead of us now. Even putting aside the complete disappearance of the star, KIC 84622852, which so far has yet to been explained, or older reports from a rich and eccentric Phauthi citizen, who claimed to have seen a large fleet of spacecraft travelling from the Perseus arm of the galaxy; we must keep in mind that space is vast. There are likely to be much more deadlier forces out in the vastness of space. The best thing we can do is prepare for the eventuality that we'll once again be faced with a situation similar to that of the First Contact War, if not even worse. The knowledge that wormholes, as well as inter dimensional portals are now possible, gives humanity the chance to expand in more ways we once thought possible.

The following is a translated record of the experiences of one Phauthi soldier serving in the Darien Gap. The material was recovered from the subject in question after his unit was cut off and surrendered to US and Canadian forces three days after the region is completely surrounded and cut off from outside supplies. Subject was eventually repatriated shortly after the signing of the Geneva Accords. Some words in the Phauthi vocabulary have no direct translation in English, so they were substituted with those that fit as close as possible. Whenever () is seen, it has been edited or otherwise important information.
When the High Council had announced they had found a new habitable world, the people were ecstatic. Even more so when spectroscopic imaging had shown evidence of an industrial civilization was present, which meant it would be perfect for us. For decades our telescopes kept a very close eye on this world. We made preparations for finding out just how advanced these people were and how to proceed. While this was going on, we had already absorbed five other planets in three different star systems. We were in the process of taking over a sixth when the news had come back about their planet. They were much closer to us and our propulsion technology would allow our ships to arrive within five to six decades, but smaller probes could arrive in half the time. In terms of habitability, this world was perfect for our kind. The northern hemisphere was just like back home, filled with snow and cold temperatures that we'd thrive in. We sent a standard surveillance probe to bring back information of the planet. Original estimates had placed the technological advancement of the natives to be early to mid industrial at best, guessing from the changes measured in the atmosphere that would coincide with such events.
Roughly 30 rotations after discovery, a fusion powered probe was sent to scout the planet. Upon arrival, another 20 rotations later(Determined later on to mean Earth years), they had advanced to the point of utilizing heavier than air transportation, although extremely primitive and flimsy. The probe would then spend tens of rotations relaying information back home. All the while, preparations were being made for the military aspect of the operation.
Over the almost 50 rotations it had been orbiting the planet, it'd had seen the human race advance at a frightening rate. Propeller driven aircraft to jet powered engines within a few decades, as well as unlocking atomic power. When all the information finally travelled it's way home, this caused alarm for our government.
Not only did this mean that whoever already lived there was intelligent enough to construct nuclear weapons, they were actively using them against themselves. What was even worse was the fact that they willingly detonated thousands of nuclear weapons within their own biosphere. Even civilian astronomers were perplexed as spectroscopic imaging was showing obvious signs of nuclear detonations, which caused many to question whether the military force originally concieved would be enough.
The probe arrived to a thriving world of upright beings who were heavily industrialized. While most of the detonation sites were in deserts or islands within the ocean, meaning they were only tests, that was just start of the horrifying things we had discovered about this planet. The planet was divided into two powerful factions, each one boasting a large nuclear arsenal. Once the probe had finished gathering information, it initiated it's defense protocol after hitting debris in orbit above the planet. In doing so, it triggered the on board nuclear device. It was small, but the designers thought that it would be sufficient in such a case where it would need to be used. The onboard computer tried to vector over the northern hemisphere to cause electromagnetic disturbances in technology once detonated, but it detonated over some islands in the southern ocean.(It was determined by some sources that this was the Vela Incident recorded in 1979, which would explain the Iodine-131 found in the atmosphere from US Air Force radiation sniffer aircraft.. However there are conflicting reports from declassified documents which suggest otherwise)
That was enough information for the High Council to order a massive military expedition to secure this planet, before the indigenous species destroyed it. While many were cautious about nuclear weapons being packed for the invasion, especially since the most industrialized and powerful nations were located in that region. New experimental weapons, such as nuclear bombardment rods(tungsten cylinders containing nuclear devices)would be equipped on the non transport vessels. A force of 28 million soldiers, alongside 80 million civilian workers, and a grand total of 600 ships, the largest fleet ever assembled, would pave the way for future colonization. It was expected that this force would be enough to force this world into submission and occupation. I joined to be a part of the greatest task ever undertaken by the Federation. This was the most advanced civilization we had ever encountered and those who took part in would make a name for themselves and bring great honor to their family.
I enjoyed the thought of civilizing a new species as much as most did in our society. Habitable planets that were home to intelligent life forms were rare, so we saw it as our duty to safeguard these worlds from the destructive natives. Although a great many were just extropal(Closest translation would be trigger happy)to fight the locals. Many wanted to put out newest weapons to the ultimate test and see just how powerful they were against a foe who could shoot back. For the duration of the trip, we'd be in cryostasis until it was time to begin last minute preparations until we made landfall on this world. As we steadily got closer to this world, our receivers were capable of picking up their transmissions. Ranging from news reports, to educational broadcasts, to even what could only be described as acts of procreation taken for personal pleasure. Our pexmists(Closest translation is linguist)had spent years trying to figure out the basics of their language, but that soon proved to be a very difficult task. There was not one single dominant force on this planet.
Thousands of individual cultures, languages, and even more peculiar was the genetic diversity in the species who we came to call humans. They had members that were extremely pale and those extremely dark in skin tone. Entire continents would have one dominant skin tone among them, with others being a minority. Two major religions had over half of the planet's population as followers, with others coming in behind it. Of the entirety of the world's population, less than ten percent had expressed a disbelief in a higher power, something not unusual with historical records of such primitive times in our own history, and the other species we had come across. So many different subdivisions of each religion, the hatred many had for each other, as well as the other internal problems this species had, we determined that their diversity would be their downfall. They couldn't even present a united front to defend their own biosphere, so what could they hope to do against a military force far ahead of them? Well, I wish the answer was what we all thought, because what we got in practice is truly horrifying.
Our generals had deemed humanity too dangerous to be left in any sizable number on this planet, which we learned was called Earth. Their violent tendencies, their capacity for violence and ignorance, and their ability to hold a grudge, made them dangerous foes, the most dangerous we had ever encountered. Those in command, mainly the more violent and war hungry generals decided to show off their arrogance towards the humans by transmitting a message directly towards the planet, letting them know what we planned to do and that we wouldn't stop. This was when were roughly five and half local rotations from arriving at Earth. Seeing as how disorganized Earth and it's so called United Nations was, I initially thought that it was fair that they got a chance to put up a fight.
But many had the same thoughts as I did. What were going to do wasn't right. Many of my fellow soldiers were in the same mindset. We were here to uplift and save a primitive and destructive civilization from itself. Yes, we saw ourselves as superior, but we didn't see any reason why we should genocide them. We believed that they would put up enough of a fight to make our superior officers reconsider the plans, seeing as how many of the lower officers, as well as a few generals outright refused to take part in operations of genocide against the humans. However there was also a great majority that took great joy in what was being ordered of them. Personally, I was disgusted at what were being ordered to do. I hoped this war wouldn't end in complete genocide. We got what we had hoped for alright. We got far more than we had ever expected.
When the day had arrived for us to enter orbit around the planet and begin deployment procedures, we were met with a very unexpected welcome. Thousands of nuclear warheads from three continents streaked towards our fleet. Our direct combat vessels accelerated and positioned themselves in front of the massive barrage coming towards us. Our missile defenses had worked well, but not well enough against a saturation attack from thousands of missiles. Half of our combat vessels were destroyed within minutes. 90% of the missiles had been intercepted, but that left many for us. Even a few of our transports were unlucky enough to be destroyed in the process. On top of this, a message was transmitted to our ships from a large radio telescope located on an island that belonged to a nation, a nation we would soon learn to hate, called the United States, which told us to fornicate with ourselves. I soon learned that humanity used it as an insult.
We tried simultaneous landings across the planet, mainly in the northern hemisphere nations of America, France, China, Russia, Britain, Israel, Korea, and India. The plan was to strike hard and quickly enough against them, we could cripple them with overwhelming force, and establish a front for offloading the bulk of our forces. The main cities targeted belonged to the five main nuclear armed nations on Earth, mainly Moscow, New York, Beijing, Paris, London, DC, Petersburg, Shanghai, Los Angeles, as well as cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv. The landings in each city ended in failure. We had caused great destruction, with an estimated half a million military personnel killed, from a combination of orbital strikes and conventional action, as well as three million citizens. However they forced the ships back into orbit within the day. Many were shot down by land based rail guns and aircraft equipped with missiles that had extremely large explosive payloads. Over one million of our own were killed or captured that day, alongside a few hundred vehicles and aircraft.
Seeing how our previous tactics didn't work, we focused on the southern half of the planet. The nation's of Australia, South Africa, and Argentina became our prime targets. Nuclear strikes across major cities and military installations had ensured they would be in disarray and unable to fight us properly. Within two weeks, most resistance was wiped out, allowing us to offload our soldiers and heavy equipment in larger numbers. Within half a rotation, we had established control over Australia, and half of the continents of Africa and South America. But by then we had already learned just how difficult this fight would be. We learned that the nations we had previously brought to heel, aside from an isolated few examples, were the poorest regions on the planet. This was disconcerting to say the least. If we had already lost a quarter of a million men fighting in the poorest, worst equipped regions on the planet, what would await us when we actually had to push further up north?
The major nations on this planet had begun deploying soldiers and equipment in large amounts to hold the line. In an even fight, they were no match for us. But they never fought us on even ground. There was a human that once said that only idiots fight on equal ground. We learned that the hard way. Without our air defenses up, their aircraft could beat ours out of the air When their air support was neutralized, they overwhelmed us with armoured vehicles and artillery fire. It was an uphill fight, but we eventually wrestled the rest of South America and all but the northern tip of Africa from the United Nations.
When the decision was made to bombard the world's major religious cities with nuclear weapons, we thought it would break their morale, seeing as how the major powers were very religious. This decision also saw one section of Earth, known as the Middle East, to be almost completely destroyed in the process. The religions of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, as well as folk religions in the nation of China, were targeted. We thought destroying those cities would break their fighting spirit. We had already conquered vast swathes of land where the followers of those religions were dominant. But we were wrong. They struck back at us with a vengeance. More nuclear strikes on our forces in orbit, as well as our armies all along the front line. By that point we had already suffered over two million dead soldiers across the world, not counting those killed or captured in the opening stages. Another million and half were killed in the days that followed the destruction of those cities.
Despite the economic hardship their civilian population faced, despite the lopsided causality numbers their military accepts for a victory, despite us genociding billions people, even as we launched the largest offensive we had during the entire war, capturing territories from the major powers, they never gave up. But we did. Our morale was shot, our numbers and equipment depleted, and were were openly fighting ourselves. When I landed in the nation of America, I learned quickly that we never really "secured" territory. There was always someone shooting at us. Whether it was a soldier, law enforcement official, or even a civilian with access to a weapon. The same went in the regions of Europe and Asia. One region especially, called Vietnam, where the local fighters would lure patrols into the thick jungles and lead them into traps, many of which were pits with spikes at the bottom. Or the mountain fighters in the region of Afghanistan. Despite everything we've done to break their fighting spirit, nothing worked. Now we're on the back foot. Officers who were sympathetic to the humans at the beginning of the war have completely taken control over our remaining ships in orbit. They've pulled into a position just beyond Earth's natural satellite. There are still a few here on the surface who refuse to surrender and still want us to fight on. But we can't. We're broken, tired, and surrounded.
Now I sit alone in a jungle next to three of my dead friends. They joined me when I enlisted for service and we went through training as a team together. Now they lie dead, blood leaking from their corpses after another probing attack from human forces. What's left of my unit is cutoff from the outside and have no way out. Our vehicles won't work in the environment and our air support is non existent. Why do I write this, you may ask? Because this has to be on record. So that the horrors we've experienced here will be a reminder. We came here thinking we we're superior and that no one could oppose us in our actions. We came here seeking another planet to add to our civilization. We expected the local species to come under heel within two rotations maximum. It's been almost five and our forces are severely depleted. Most of our military strength has been wasted in this futile action.
What we did was beyond wrong. I've seen entire families lined against a wall and executed for the crime of being human. Me and my friends could only watch in horror as our own superiors were powerless to help them. I've seen whole cities burned to the ground in by aircrews of bombers. I've seen countless mass graves dug for the bodies of the countless slaughtered. We've done our best to help, from helping humans escape occupied zones, to deleting drone footage as to hide settlements of survivors, and supplying weapons to groups who we gained the trust of. While I doubt this will change how humanity views me, or to a larger extent, my people, I just want it to be known I did what I could in the position I have. It was a mistake to come here and fight. If there's one thing that humanity has shown above all else, is that they never give up. No matter how bleak their situation is, they find ways around it.
We're responsible for so much death and destruction across this planet, so much that it may never fully recover from. So much of their history and culture wiped out in our vain attempt to prove our superiority over them.
To any human who may find this, I am truly sorry for all the destruction we've caused. I have no doubt that one day you'll recover from this and set your sights on us, just like we did you. I just want it to be known that not all of us supported what was done to you, but we were incapable of stopping it. I can only hope that as time passes, you don't make our same mistakes. Don't judge others like we did to you. And should the balance of power ever change in your favor, don't take your anger out on those who don't deserve it.
If by some miracle, my family reads this, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Like millions of others, our family name will be tarnished with the first ever failed invasion of a primitive planet. Even more so when spectroscopic imaging had shown evidence of an industrial civilization was present, which meant it would be perfect for us. For decades our telescopes kept a very close eye on this world. We made preparations for finding out just how advanced these people were and how to proceed. While this was going on, we had already absorbed five other planets in three different star systems. We were in the process of taking over a sixth when the news had come back about their planet. They were much closer to us and our propulsion technology would allow our ships to arrive within five to six decades, but smaller probes could arrive in half the time. In terms of habitability, this world was perfect for our kind. The northern hemisphere was just like back home, filled with snow and cold temperatures that we'd thrive in. We sent a standard surveillance probe to bring back information of the planet. Original estimates had placed the technological advancement of the natives to be early to mid industrial at best, guessing from the changes measured in the atmosphere that would coincide with such events.
Roughly 30 rotations after discovery, a fusion powered probe was sent to scout the planet. Upon arrival, another 20 rotations later(Determined later on to mean Earth years), they had advanced to the point of utilizing heavier than air transportation, although extremely primitive and flimsy. The probe would then spend tens of rotations relaying information back home. All the while, preparations were being made for the military aspect of the operation.
Over the almost 50 rotations it had been orbiting the planet, it'd had seen the human race advance at a frightening rate. Propeller driven aircraft to jet powered engines within a few decades, as well as unlocking atomic power. When all the information finally travelled it's way home, this caused alarm for our government.
Not only did this mean that whoever already lived there was intelligent enough to construct nuclear weapons, they were actively using them against themselves. What was even worse was the fact that they willingly detonated thousands of nuclear weapons within their own biosphere. Even civilian astronomers were perplexed as spectroscopic imaging was showing obvious signs of nuclear detonations, which caused many to question whether the military force originally concieved would be enough.
The probe arrived to a thriving world of upright beings who were heavily industrialized. While most of the detonation sites were in deserts or islands within the ocean, meaning they were only tests, that was just start of the horrifying things we had discovered about this planet. The planet was divided into two powerful factions, each one boasting a large nuclear arsenal. Once the probe had finished gathering information, it initiated it's defense protocol after hitting debris in orbit above the planet. In doing so, it triggered the on board nuclear device. It was small, but the designers thought that it would be sufficient in such a case where it would need to be used. The onboard computer tried to vector over the northern hemisphere to cause electromagnetic disturbances in technology once detonated, but it detonated over some islands in the southern ocean.(It was determined by some sources that this was the Vela Incident recorded in 1979, which would explain the Iodine-131 found in the atmosphere from US Air Force radiation sniffer aircraft.. However there are conflicting reports from declassified documents which suggest otherwise)
That was enough information for the High Council to order a massive military expedition to secure this planet, before the indigenous species destroyed it. While many were cautious about nuclear weapons being packed for the invasion, especially since the most industrialized and powerful nations were located in that region. New experimental weapons, such as nuclear bombardment rods(tungsten cylinders containing nuclear devices)would be equipped on the non transport vessels. A force of 28 million soldiers, alongside 80 million civilian workers, and a grand total of 600 ships, the largest fleet ever assembled, would pave the way for future colonization. It was expected that this force would be enough to force this world into submission and occupation. I joined to be a part of the greatest task ever undertaken by the Federation. This was the most advanced civilization we had ever encountered and those who took part in would make a name for themselves and bring great honor to their family.
I enjoyed the thought of civilizing a new species as much as most did in our society. Habitable planets that were home to intelligent life forms were rare, so we saw it as our duty to safeguard these worlds from the destructive natives. Although a great many were just extropal(Closest translation would be trigger happy)to fight the locals. Many wanted to put out newest weapons to the ultimate test and see just how powerful they were against a foe who could shoot back. For the duration of the trip, we'd be in cryostasis until it was time to begin last minute preparations until we made landfall on this world. As we steadily got closer to this world, our receivers were capable of picking up their transmissions. Ranging from news reports, to educational broadcasts, to even what could only be described as acts of procreation taken for personal pleasure. Our pexmists(Closest translation is linguist)had spent years trying to figure out the basics of their language, but that soon proved to be a very difficult task. There was not one single dominant force on this planet.
Thousands of individual cultures, languages, and even more peculiar was the genetic diversity in the species who we came to call humans. They had members that were extremely pale and those extremely dark in skin tone. Entire continents would have one dominant skin tone among them, with others being a minority. Two major religions had over half of the planet's population as followers, with others coming in behind it. Of the entirety of the world's population, less than ten percent had expressed a disbelief in a higher power, something not unusual with historical records of such primitive times in our own history, and the other species we had come across. So many different subdivisions of each religion, the hatred many had for each other, as well as the other internal problems this species had, we determined that their diversity would be their downfall. They couldn't even present a united front to defend their own biosphere, so what could they hope to do against a military force far ahead of them? Well, I wish the answer was what we all thought, because what we got in practice is truly horrifying.
Our generals had deemed humanity too dangerous to be left in any sizable number on this planet, which we learned was called Earth. Their violent tendencies, their capacity for violence and ignorance, and their ability to hold a grudge, made them dangerous foes, the most dangerous we had ever encountered. Those in command, mainly the more violent and war hungry generals decided to show off their arrogance towards the humans by transmitting a message directly towards the planet, letting them know what we planned to do and that we wouldn't stop. This was when were roughly five and half local rotations from arriving at Earth. Seeing as how disorganized Earth and it's so called United Nations was, I initially thought that it was fair that they got a chance to put up a fight.
But many had the same thoughts as I did. What were going to do wasn't right. Many of my fellow soldiers were in the same mindset. We were here to uplift and save a primitive and destructive civilization from itself. Yes, we saw ourselves as superior, but we didn't see any reason why we should genocide them. We believed that they would put up enough of a fight to make our superior officers reconsider the plans, seeing as how many of the lower officers, as well as a few generals outright refused to take part in operations of genocide against the humans. However there was also a great majority that took great joy in what was being ordered of them. Personally, I was disgusted at what were being ordered to do. I hoped this war wouldn't end in complete genocide. We got what we had hoped for alright. We got far more than we had ever expected.
When the day had arrived for us to enter orbit around the planet and begin deployment procedures, we were met with a very unexpected welcome. Thousands of nuclear warheads from three continents streaked towards our fleet. Our direct combat vessels accelerated and positioned themselves in front of the massive barrage coming towards us. Our missile defenses had worked well, but not well enough against a saturation attack from thousands of missiles. Half of our combat vessels were destroyed within minutes. 90% of the missiles had been intercepted, but that left many for us. Even a few of our transports were unlucky enough to be destroyed in the process. On top of this, a message was transmitted to our ships from a large radio telescope located on an island that belonged to a nation, a nation we would soon learn to hate, called the United States, which told us to fornicate with ourselves. I soon learned that humanity used it as an insult.
We tried simultaneous landings across the planet, mainly in the northern hemisphere nations of America, France, China, Russia, Britain, Israel, Korea, and India. The plan was to strike hard and quickly enough against them, we could cripple them with overwhelming force, and establish a front for offloading the bulk of our forces. The main cities targeted belonged to the five main nuclear armed nations on Earth, mainly Moscow, New York, Beijing, Paris, London, DC, Petersburg, Shanghai, Los Angeles, as well as cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv. The landings in each city ended in failure. We had caused great destruction, with an estimated half a million military personnel killed, from a combination of orbital strikes and conventional action, as well as three million citizens. However they forced the ships back into orbit within the day. Many were shot down by land based rail guns and aircraft equipped with missiles that had extremely large explosive payloads. Over one million of our own were killed or captured that day, alongside a few hundred vehicles and aircraft.
Seeing how our previous tactics didn't work, we focused on the southern half of the planet. The nation's of Australia, South Africa, and Argentina became our prime targets. Nuclear strikes across major cities and military installations had ensured they would be in disarray and unable to fight us properly. Within two weeks, most resistance was wiped out, allowing us to offload our soldiers and heavy equipment in larger numbers. Within half a rotation, we had established control over Australia, and half of the continents of Africa and South America. But by then we had already learned just how difficult this fight would be. We learned that the nations we had previously brought to heel, aside from an isolated few examples, were the poorest regions on the planet. This was disconcerting to say the least. If we had already lost a quarter of a million men fighting in the poorest, worst equipped regions on the planet, what would await us when we actually had to push further up north?
The major nations on this planet had begun deploying soldiers and equipment in large amounts to hold the line. In an even fight, they were no match for us. But they never fought us on even ground. There was a human that once said that only idiots fight on equal ground. We learned that the hard way. Without our air defenses up, their aircraft could beat ours out of the air When their air support was neutralized, they overwhelmed us with armoured vehicles and artillery fire. It was an uphill fight, but we eventually wrestled the rest of South America and all but the northern tip of Africa from the United Nations.
When the decision was made to bombard the world's major religious cities with nuclear weapons, we thought it would break their morale, seeing as how the major powers were very religious. This decision also saw one section of Earth, known as the Middle East, to be almost completely destroyed in the process. The religions of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, as well as folk religions in the nation of China, were targeted. We thought destroying those cities would break their fighting spirit. We had already conquered vast swathes of land where the followers of those religions were dominant. But we were wrong. They struck back at us with a vengeance. More nuclear strikes on our forces in orbit, as well as our armies all along the front line. By that point we had already suffered over two million dead soldiers across the world, not counting those killed or captured in the opening stages. Another million and half were killed in the days that followed the destruction of those cities.
Despite the economic hardship their civilian population faced, despite the lopsided causality numbers their military accepts for a victory, despite us genociding billions people, even as we launched the largest offensive we had during the entire war, capturing territories from the major powers, they never gave up. But we did. Our morale was shot, our numbers and equipment depleted, and were were openly fighting ourselves. When I landed in the nation of America, I learned quickly that we never really "secured" territory. There was always someone shooting at us. Whether it was a soldier, law enforcement official, or even a civilian with access to a weapon. The same went in the regions of Europe and Asia. One region especially, called Vietnam, where the local fighters would lure patrols into the thick jungles and lead them into traps, many of which were pits with spikes at the bottom. Or the mountain fighters in the region of Afghanistan. Despite everything we've done to break their fighting spirit, nothing worked. Now we're on the back foot. Officers who were sympathetic to the humans at the beginning of the war have completely taken control over our remaining ships in orbit. They've pulled into a position just beyond Earth's natural satellite. There are still a few here on the surface who refuse to surrender and still want us to fight on. But we can't. We're broken, tired, and surrounded.
Now I sit alone in a jungle next to three of my dead friends. They joined me when I enlisted for service and we went through training as a team together. Now they lie dead, blood leaking from their corpses after another probing attack from human forces. What's left of my unit is cutoff from the outside and have no way out. Our vehicles won't work in the environment and our air support is non existent. Why do I write this, you may ask? Because this has to be on record. So that the horrors we've experienced here will be a reminder. We came here thinking we we're superior and that no one could oppose us in our actions. We came here seeking another planet to add to our civilization. We expected the local species to come under heel within two rotations maximum. It's been almost five and our forces are severely depleted. Most of our military strength has been wasted in this futile action.
What we did was beyond wrong. I've seen entire families lined against a wall and executed for the crime of being human. Me and my friends could only watch in horror as our own superiors were powerless to help them. I've seen whole cities burned to the ground in by aircrews of bombers. I've seen countless mass graves dug for the bodies of the countless slaughtered. We've done our best to help, from helping humans escape occupied zones, to deleting drone footage as to hide settlements of survivors, and supplying weapons to groups who we gained the trust of. While I doubt this will change how humanity views me, or to a larger extent, my people, I just want it to be known I did what I could in the position I have. It was a mistake to come here and fight. If there's one thing that humanity has shown above all else, is that they never give up. No matter how bleak their situation is, they find ways around it.
We're responsible for so much death and destruction across this planet, so much that it may never fully recover from. So much of their history and culture wiped out in our vain attempt to prove our superiority over them.
To any human who may find this, I am truly sorry for all the destruction we've caused. I have no doubt that one day you'll recover from this and set your sights on us, just like we did you. I just want it to be known that not all of us supported what was done to you, but we were incapable of stopping it. I can only hope that as time passes, you don't make our same mistakes. Don't judge others like we did to you. And should the balance of power ever change in your favor, don't take your anger out on those who don't deserve it.
If by some miracle, my family reads this, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Like millions of others, our family name will be tarnished with the first ever failed invasion of a primitive planet. In the Sufficient Velocity version of this thread, he proposed outright genocide and organ harvesting of nonhuman species from the Gate.
Also did this generational punishment proposal thing in the SpaceBattles.com thread that is very reminiscent of North Korea.

Because the director first he developed an intense HATRED for the books without even passing the second chapter of the book (declaring it fascist military propaganda), and second he had no support to do the original satirical "War on Bugs" movie he wanted to do originally (but he got it to make a "Starship Troopers" flavoured movie). I wonder if the existence of magic and deities in falmert will lead to a renaissance of the esoteric on earth? I mean we already have our own godlike entity keeping the gates open. and the exposure to falmert could lead to the return of magic. stuff like voodoo and Wicker could go from superstitious nonsense to legitimate and powerful forces. having roughly the right ideas on how to use but not actually possessing the magical energies for them to work. in till know.
