Since the discussion here in @Scopas s of thread: https://forum.questionablequesting....ding-the-recent-anti-nsfw-content-bans.26468/ got locked and I complained about it I got advised by @ultima333 to start a sequel thread here.

This is for the discussion of censorship in all ite forms, primarily focused on written fiction and spicy legal content.

This is to include all forms of censorship, be it direct or indirect(e.g. via interference with fully legal commercial activities from payment processors.) or forcing you to cough up your face, biometrics and national ID to shady non-EU companies to buy a Rias Gremory Daki or watch porn as well as stripping people of anonimity via buggy age verification crap and trying to guilt or shame or inconvenience them.

The discussion is to also about fully legal ways such problems can be bypassed.
This bypass included alternate payment methods including but not limited to various forms of crypto.

No illegal activity is being condoned by this OP.
Only legal, consenting adults involved activities and are in scope.

This is a global scope thread, so the UK id nones e, chat control and the DSA are all in scope as is the OS level fingerprinting nonsense are all in scope.

Discuss.

I want translators to stop changing the translation to fit Western sensibilities.
Hopefully improved MTL tech and growing awareness in Japan will soon make all the western middlemen and censorious so called translators irrelevant.

Ther and I never understood why Japan doesn't nearshore that work to the Philippines, where there is a sizable anime community and the locals are fluent in English.

Cheaper and probably better quality work right next door.

What pisses me off is attempts made by the censorious scum to force censorship at the source.

There's a real balance between protecting users (especially minors) and not going overboard with restrictions or invasive checks. Different regions are pushing it in different directions, so it ends up inconsistent and confusing.
For most people it's just about finding platforms that align with what they're comfortable with, rather than trying to fight every policy change.

How do minors get on the internet?
The same way they gamble, thanks to some dumb adult's negligence, usually their parents or other relatives.
And there are the schools that can't discipline them or won't ban then from social media or smart phones and other mind rotting slop.

It is not social media, there was Jack shit of it, or streaming sites like onlyfans and the hub back in the day.(Quality wise porn was a lot better and had higher production values, though, so yeah...)

We could still get porno mags and beers by slipping a hobo some money and later via various P2P software that was supposed to be illegal.

I am sorry not sorry parents and schools nowadays are lazy, ineffective and stupid and that they produce completely out of control brats with no sense of self preservation or no self control.

Not my fault, not my problem. I certainly am not parenting anyone else's kids or suffering even a minor annoyance because somebody else was too dumb or lazy to use a fucking condom.

Although a lot of this is actually happening because of the sirtbag politicians wanting to crack down on descent and free speech and their parasitic security bureaucracies want a justification for their continued existence and more spying powers.

Fuck them all too.

Yeah I'm heavily opposed to virtually all forms of censorship. Let people enjoy what they want as long as it's not legitimately hurting anyone else.

It is somewhat ridiculous to think that along with AO3 QQ is the last bastion of free speech in the nerd sphere (though if I'm missing some platform please let me know).
Especially in that QQ has avoided the trap of "no politics, buuut my politics don't count as politics, it's just basic decency."

Though I have noticed signs that QQ has started tilting towards a political bias and that quickly brings about other forms of censorship too.

I can only hope that users and mods alike can come together and keep this place actually free and not a mockery of it like SB, SV and other places have become.

I don't think it is the last bastion, there are still lots of free speech platforms and places, they are just going under ground, to Matrix servers and session and telegram groups.
And of course we have the various chans, but their lack of persistence and absolute anonimity can be off putting and you really can't conduct a long term meaningful conversation. BUT THAT IS TRUE FOR ALL SOCIAL MEDIA.And no, I don't consider forums to be social media.
They are also a corrupted relic of an older better time.

"No politics" is a band-aid that slows the decline (by shutting down agitators) but it doesn't solve the problem.

The fundamental problem is in the game theory of social organization. Let's say there are two general strategies in life: I can maximize short term gain at the cost of setting up a situation that is catastrophic in the long term (I become a warlord and have hundreds of kids but a century later my great grandkids all get genocided by some other warlord); or I can act to preserve long term stability but at the cost that my short term gains are sub-optimal (I build a virtuous kingdom that lasts 1000 years but I only have ten kids with one woman that I'm married to). You could call them the left-hand path and the right-hand path, or the dark side and the light side, respectively.

In an open system with no rules, the dark side will win out over the light side, due to their short term advantage, and then eventually the catastrophe comes and wipes out everyone, and the game is over (or it wipes out, say, 90% of people, and the 10% who survive have to start the game over from scratch).

The way to prevent that from happening is for the light side to band together and punish the dark side players, so that the short-term loss from punishment is greater than the short-term gain of following a dark side strategy.

But this only works as long as the punishment mechanism is not corrupted. The ultimate win for the dark side is to gain control of these mechanisms and use them to punish the light side while allowing the controlling player and his clients to act with impunity.

It seems to be a rule that every system with any kind of power will get corrupted eventually, so, barring some divine/supernatural system of enforcement that is out of human hands (which was the purpose of religion before multiplicity made religion irrelevant), it all seems to keep circling back around to the dark side winning and then slamming face-first into catastrophe. That seems to be where we are now, and censorship is just a last act of desperation on the part of the dark side to squeeze out a few more years of being in control before the catastrophe happens.

Can we please focus on the subject at hand.

If you want to complain about the no politics rules or this place's organization you can do it in the rants section or the request/suggestions section.

Frankly I find it sort of refreshing there is no politics here, it is a LEWD forum and a fanfic forum first and foremost.

Another huge asset is that the staff here is for the most part too lazy and disinterested in other stuff that doesn't deal with the core function of the site(PORN AND FANFIC), rather than pushing some specific viewpoint. This far I might have seen somewhat overzealous crackdowns but not them actually siding with one side or the other.

I have thought of starting my own but frankly I'd be too lazy to moderate it myself or try and seek out and deal with a staff to do it for me. That and discussing and reading porn on here, watching, playing and reading stuff(not just porn mind you), and making AI lewds eats up most of my spare time.

That and I still need to figure out a catchy name and where outside of the USA and EU to host the thing.

Also, I like it when politics is kicked out of my hobbies,( I'd rather like to listen to my heavy metal, reread my Heinlein and Frank Herbert collection, and play POSTAL and Elf Breeding Farm and be able to buy lewd Dakis and figures of Rias Gremory without being lectured or being forced to scan my face and ID and provide it to some shady third parties, thank you very much). At least the ones that don't have a political connotation, like history and economics and my currently on lifesupoort and close to getting its cable pulled out military nerdism.

Eh, I don't know what will happen to the internet in the future, but I think it's better to be prepared and have the necessary software. I mean TOR (and its bridges), I2P and torrent hubs are not hard to get, even if you need to use the Japanese method of working with fully encoded traffic and disk space for some of it. But that's only for now.

If shit will hit the fan open links will be blocked first and hobbyist mesh networks will be the only way to access content not approved by Big Brother.

That is already happening.

In parallel to the "digital sovereignty" movement there is a pretty powerful push for more privacy focused and often decentralized tools.

TutaNota and Proton are some examples that are hosted and domiciled in switzerland.

There are various alternatives to Slack/Discord/other centralized social media like Matrix and Mastodon and new chat tools that use onion routing techniques like Session.

You also have Telegram and Signal already.

And there is this very nice P2P encrypted file sync thing called syncthing that lets you keep all your docs available and replicated on all your devices without the need for a central server. (other than the metadata services) I actually installed it on a few of my android crap devices and my desktop and laptops a few days ago, I am still getting used to it but it lets me sync my docs between my devices so I can easily edit a document on every single one.

Less convenient than cloud storage or a central server, but more private and once it pairs and detects changes, pretty fast.

No need to run shit like nextcloud with added stuff like tailfin/scale or real IPs to sync my attempts at writing Lesbian Oyakodon. 🤣
