Oh my, seems mom was very aware of where the winds are blowing, and was very intent on securing a strong standing in the coming tide.

However she forgot her boy was so scared of her, that the moment the positions were switched, he wouldn't hesitate to cast her down. Now she's but a civilian, and nowhere in reach to luxuriate in the efforts of Las.

Thankfully, cause of her words of "open dissent" believing Empire'sfall is imminent, he can begin the maneuvers to harden the sector for the coming troubles, be they the Rebels, the New Republic or Warlords. If ISB comes sniffing around after seeing red flags, just point fingers at his mom that the "Civilian" Mola gave insight that sectors with remnants of Tarkin's followers and associates may not be secure due to knockon effects of corruption and incompetence. Meaning so many sectors are liable to collapse across the Empire, to cascade in the Rebel's favor.



And yes, the Eruptor is great, I love shooting dropships as they're coming in to wipe out the squads and walkers

Officially, after the dismissal of the Senate, only Grand Moffs ( afaik only used in case of open rebellion or similar ) and Grand Admirals ( Only 12 and all were more political positions, only Zaarin and Thrawn were actually competent ). And Palpy himself, of course.

In Legends there were also the Supreme Commander ( Vader when Palpy wasn't angry with him ), Grand Vizier Sate Pestage, and Warlord of the Empire, Zsinj, as a reward for murdering his mother for staying loyal to the Republic instead of the new Empire. That's a very small list of persons, for a million worlds galactic empire...

There is also teh Executor position in Legends that Palpy created for Luke in Dark Empire, but I'm pretty sure that didn't exist until then, so a few years from now. Also never understood why should Luke should accept that position, at least in teh films you know Palpy was a father figure for Anakin, but Luke didn't had any reason for accepting that position. Dark Empire is pretty bad at caracterization ( still less awful than the sequels, in any case ).

Who will side with her when she got herself dismissed because she was in the process of trying to give orders to a Moff in his own office ? Plus a MI operative and two Navy personnels who were very much outside of her chain of command. How many ranks above her is Las, even ?

IRL a commandant is usually at least in the Navy a LT Commander or in The army a Major and going off Imperial Military ranking Structure there could potentially be about nine ranks between them if IRL logic applies.

"What? Have you something to add?" Her tone clearly telling him to either speak productively or not speak at all.

"Your rank is Commandant." He continued, the slightest giggle escaping his mouth.

Before Jir could respond, Las burst out into a full blown laugh. Hands on his stomach, keeled over his desk, laughing until he cried.

This went on and on, Mother trying and failing to stop him. Only when she seemed on the verge of slapping him did he calm down just enough to explain.

"Heh…your rank is-heheheh-its just Commandant! HAHAHAH!!!" He burst out laughing again. "You have absolutely NO power over me!"

As he said this, he started typing something into his terminal, giggles still escaping him.

"Las Mola. I am your Mother. You will silence this foolishness and listen to me." Mother didn't raise her voice, she never did, but at this moment she seemed poised to scream at the man.

Instead, Las simply turned to her. "I've accepted your transfer request."

"Good, now-"

"And immediately discharged you."

The room freezes for the third time. The only difference?

Jir Mola is frozen as well.

"...What?" Jir seems to grind out, her face slowly contorting into the angriest Zyx had ever seen her.

"Now, the military pension program here in the Minda system is pretty nice, but considering you were just a Commandant, it likely won't be that much since it's based on the Mindan payscale instead of the Eriadu one. So, I recommend you find yourself a job."

Jir just stared at him as though he had sprouted new limbs.

"The local administrative offices have job assistance programs that can get you started if you need to. I recommend you check them out, since you'll need to go there anyway to get your new civilian ID issued to you."

"Wha-you can't-"

"I can. And I have. See this?" He says, pointed towards his rank pips with an insufferably smug look on his face. "I'm a Moff. You are a Commandant. While I understand that some things do get mixed out here in the Outer Rim, I'm pretty sure I know how the chain of command works."

Jir couldn't respond. Her eyes were wide open, mouth agape, posture rigid with shock.

Las simply pressed the intercom. "Garp, please send in security to escort Mrs Jir Mola out of my office please. She has some dischargement papers to work through."

As two Stormtroopers walked in and started to bodily drag Jir away, her eyes never left Las's smiling, almost giddy face

The unfortunate thing for both of them is that he's in agreement with his mother, just goes and it in different ways and doesn't like her at all. He's essentially positioning himself to survive the fall and potentially retire or continue on I'm the republic. At least that's what I've gleaned from previous chapters

Then when Palps gets the boot, the remnants of the Empire and the better parts of the Rebels prop up Las as the new Emperor. His office gets even smaller, he gets even more work, and his dreams of running away to a luxury planet to retire with wealth disappears permanently.

We could just count the difference in the number of squares in the imperial rank plaques.
"Grand Moffs and Moffs used a rank plaque with six blue tiles on the top row, and three red tiles followed by three yellow tiles on the bottom row of their plaque. Earlier in the Empire's reign, Moffs could also use plaques with five blue tiles that sat above three red tiles followed by two yellow tiles to signify their rank and title." "A commandant's rank was signified in several ways; a single row rank plaque with several red and yellow tiles, a single row plaque with four blue tiles and two red tiles pinned on a modified uniform such as the one worn by Jayhold Beehaz, or a double rowed plaque with three red tiles on top of three blue tiles."
This is off the star wars wiki, but by number of command tiles for Moffs in only the early Empire being ten verse the direct numbers given indicating around six for Commandants at least four ranks. If this is by late Empire standards where the Moff have even more power and the difference between a Moff and Grand Moff just seems to be the title and the authority it gives then six tiles of difference in the Imperial command structure, which is quite the difference in rank.

The political waves are gonna be funny, man just did a unknowing power play in securing himself as head of the family in a move that will get the MC further noticed by their peers. The actual influence or lack their of does not really matter in this regard though the undoubtable many enemies his mother has made might actually warm up to the MC after such a ruthless move. And for the local political scene its another good example of the new Moff showcasing he is perfectly willing to 'abuse' his power both in nepotistically bringing his sister into the fold, and completely ruining what was left of his mothers career.



Commandant is a specialized facility manager rank but not a proper part of the rank structure itself and thus could be equivalent to borderline anything but given she was only in charge of a training facility, and not necessarily any of the really, REALLY important ones id be pessimistic and put her as equivalent to LT Commander, Full Commander at absolute best so 4 to 5ish ranks below Admiral. But that's just my thoughts/understanding of where she would be rank wise compared to other ranks.

Yeah, I got Commandant confused with the British Commodore rank which is 3 ranks below a British Admiral. It would be equivalent to a Rear Admiral (Lower Half) in the US navy.

Eh while he hasn't officially black listed her anyone with even a hint of political knowledge will take it as that.

She walked in as a Commendant and in, what, 5 minutes left a civilian. That immediately shows she has the Moffs disfavour and noone want to higher someone who pissed of the Moff enough to be kicked out the military.

In fact they'll think her just leaving alive was a final kindness as they're family because thats how the Empire work: Corruption and Narcissism.

Really what we have to worry about now is some rebels getting into their heads to recruit her. Being kicked out the military after all her political connections withered? Someone with a long history of training nee recruits to solders? Someone connected to a new Moff?

That's prime recruitment trght there.

Correction. Las is in the perfect spot to rule no matter who is in charge. His family are a bunch of coat-riders, so if they want shit they better start putting in the work and stop expecting Las to give them hand-outs, because he's made it clear he won't.

I honestly hope to read a giddy Las chapter or two. Being under pressure for so long and the dread of meeting his mother once more finally has some relief; I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Garp walked into Las' office and found him dancing a funky beat with Mugwuffin.

That is how it often is with controlling/abusive relationships. You're so used to them have command over you, that once they don't you still have the fear of it. Las was in that state for most of the story, and then this chapter has him realize "What a minute, you have no power over me whatsoever. Why am I afraid of you again?"

I like how you've portrayed the Mom. She's competent and frankly smarter than most Imperials, and all the orders she gave out were on point, and the reasoning was all sound.

While simultaneously being so bad socially and interpersonally due to her narcissism plus other stuff that her entire family hates her or is scared of her.

Even the mentor position she had taken, shows her so clearly. She's a competent narcissist control freak who tried to make everyone the 'best' they can be (in her judgement) for the good of the family.

I honestly hope her civilian life/work will give her perspective and the family can at least come to more of an understanding.
