"Yeah, Ma, I got the wine. I'll head out in, five, tops.'
"...."
"Love you too, Ma. See you at dinner." He smiled and hung up, the phone sliding off his face as he continued playing Forza Horizon on his brand new PS6, on a brand new OLED he had delivered just yesterday.
So far, it had been over a week of non stop playing and he had to say, Sony really outdid itself this time. The price they demanded was steep for a product like this, where they usually ate a loss on the hardware and recouped most of the cost on game sales but this time, they really did go all out.
Top of the line Chips. More than enough RAM and Storage, user serviceable obviously, that was a huge plus sign. More than enough display outputs and it was chonky enough that the fan noise didn't really bother him as much as it did on the PS5, owing to its huge size, allowing for better and natural heat dissipation.
As he played the game, he reached out with his powers, and checked the state of his room. So, he had a neat system in place, just so he could remain aware of everything that goes in his apartment.
He had little metal weights, of varying sizes and weights on the blinds, all the cabinets as well as the fridge door, all the other doors had metal handles, and the locks were metal as well, so that he could keep track of stuff.
Seeing that the windows were closed, he was about to open the fridge and get himself Orange Juice but paused, his entire form stilling for a split second before he resumed gaming as if nothing had happened.
In the building, right in front of him, in an apartment roughly on the same level as his own, and facing the window where his back was, was a shit ton of metal, and not just any metal, metal that was actively using electricity.
Now, he had not practiced his powers like that, so he could not sense the precise amount of electricity flowing through that metal or what that metal was doing, eventually, he would be able to intercept radio signals as well if he lived long enough to practice his powers to that level, but he could tell that it was suspicious that they had a giant telescope shaped thing pointed straight at his apartment, along with many other smaller ones.
His eyes widened as he sensed the same nipple piercing as the delivery girl from before who had a Gun?! Strapped to where her waist should be, with a phone against her where her ear should be.
He was unable to sense squishy humans but he could definitely sense metallic stuff and something like that was in recent memory. After all, she did appear in some of his dreams and it had only been a week since he got the PS6 and since then, he had really let himself go in terms of training his powers.
If he had known that he was being surveilled, well, he might not have used his powers so flagrantly only for his convenience.
His smile strained as he looked for any hidden cameras, microphones, or anything that looked out of place, in his apartment or near the exterior of his apartment and found nothing. Still, that didn't mean anything.
His breathing quickened a bit as he thought of the consequences this could lead to, his mind conjuring up disastrous scenarios of him being on the run, his parents detained against their will, him being on a dissection table, him being forced to serve his nation in the most chilling of ways.
All of it ran in his mind and then….he breathed out. He calmly finished his game, shut it down properly, ran himself a hot shower, got ready and after making sure that everything was switched off in his apartment, he locked his apartment and went down to the basement parking.
As soon as the elevator opened up, he cursed internally and went back up, noting the scrambling of movement in that surveillance room as he backpedalled. He had forgotten the Wine but this made it clear that he was under surveillance, that they probably had the entire building hacked.
Sighing internally, he got the Wine, triple checked the stove, and left the building, driving in his brand new Toyota. Yup, he was rich but not filthy rich and his main motive was to leave this country and settle in some other one where Uncle Sam won't be watching over him all the time so that he could live and practice his abilities in peace.
His mind ran a mile a minute as he seethed, watching pieces of metal barge into his apartment, with guns and more metallic equipment, both small and large that they began embedding into the walls of his home, not that he owned that place but still. This confirmed it, they found out.
The only question was how?
He had kept this secret for over 5 years now, ever since he activated those powers in his high school, forever changing his life. He had been extra cautious at first, never doing anything in his line of sight, never doing things at the same place or at the same time, never becoming predictable.
Never did anything that might attract attention and it was very easy too since he could actually influence ships and metal in every single thing, so all he did during the beginning was try to lift heavier and heavier cars as his powers progressed.
After that, he moved on to trucks, then bigger trucks, then finally to buildings. He could exert force over entire buildings now. He had a high level of precision with his powers, so he knew exactly what sort of force he was exerting out of his total capacity.
And he had been able to make a small building, nothing crazy, about four stories, shudder with only a tenth of his full power. That was…scary, at the time but it had been over a year since he tried that and had come to terms with his powers now. He had been hoping to quietly ride out the rest of the contractually obligated period and then fuck off to some chill country to live out the rest of his days in peace, but apparently, that was too much to ask for.
His hands gripped the steering wheel roughly as he saw them take apart his computer, his Gaming Computer, and implant something in the motherboard.
He closed his eyes and moved his focus away from his apartment, lest he do something he might regret later on.
Instead, he thought of what he could do, with all his powers. Going public was not an option, there were tons of lead damaged brain holders in the country who would call him satan or devil spawn and call for his death, something that the government would no doubt support. Not to kill him but to make him disappear from society, giving them the perfect chance to exploit him.
No, that was out of the question.
Threatening the government was out of the question as well, since he still had his family and despite his confidence, he didn't really have any confidence of winning against Uncle Sam. So, that was out as well.
That left making a deal with the spooks, whichever three letter agency it was that had figured out that he had powers.
Obviously, they did not know the full extent of his powers, or else they would not have set up surveillance right in front of his building. From that, he could infer a few things,
1. They did not know the full range of his powers.
2. They don't know his full strength, or else guns wouldn't have made them feel safe.
He breathed out, as the signal turned green. Okay, this much was enough for now. He needed to stay calm, breathe, and be ready to defend himself. Also, research ways to get out of the city, unfortunately, he had no trips planned anytime soon so suddenly leaving would also set alarm bells in the minds of the government people.
He sighed as he turned, entering the gated community that his parents lived in. It had been one stressful hour of driving.
This close, he could finally use his sensory powers and focus on his parent's house. He sighed in relief as he found everything where it should be, with his father's pacemaker moving about the house.
He pulled over the driveway, which alerted his parents as his father rushed to get the door. Getting the Wine, he went up to the door as his dad all but stumbled out of it.
"Heeey, Champ!" His father hugged him, as did his mother.
"Hey, Dad..Mom," he smiled at them as he handed the bottle of Wine to Mom and headed to the living room.
"How's it going, son? When are you going to invite us to your upstate Manhattan apartment?"
"Yeah, honey, you know if you are living with someone, we wouldn't mind it, right Sam?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, we don't care if you are living in sin, as long as you are happy."
He sighed, "Dad, the reason I haven't invited you guys is because I am always busy and no, there is no girl."
"But whyy?" His mother whined as she leaned on the sofa.
"Come on, son, is there a problem there, you know?" His father asked him, raising his eyebrows.
"Ewww! No!" He shot up as he ran up to his room, "That's so weird, Dad. Call me when dinner's done."
God, just 10 minutes in and he was reminded of why he moved out into a very expensive apartment despite having a perfectly nice house out into the Suburbs, with his own room and office.
Jumping into his bed, he pushed his powers, to get a sense of the city and hmmed at the changes, minute ones, as the metal concentration moved around the city.
Something to note about his powers because while his powers could sense metal in a very large radius, and even electricity to a certain extent, he could not focus in on something. Processing that much data, all at once, was impossible for him as he was now.
He could just make out broad strokes of information, like Iron Man's Arc Reactor which produced its own special electricity, and the fact that a man sized hunk of metal was flying through the sky, which was pretty noticeable, but sifting through that much information at once was a job for a supercomputer, not his decidedly human brain.
He needed to know, to remember stuff consciously or subconsciously to actually focus in on stuff. So, he couldn't, like, make out a car of some model unless he had been in that car, seen that car or overall interacted with that car with his powers.
And even then, it faded away.
So, from this far away, he could still sense the nipple ring of the agent, simply because it was a very memorable fact, something that his mind and powers remembered. Along with the shock of knowing that his secret was finally found by that woman, he didn't think it was possible for him to ever forget that nipple ring.
"Ah! This is so stupid!" He screamed into his pillow, just waiting to eat dinner and then think of ways he could get out of this problem, this giant problem that might just lead to his death or incarceration.
Pretty morbid to think about.

I run weekly polls on P*treon to decide which snippet series will get updated (2-3 ch/wk) and ofcourse, I write what my muse brings me as well.
Do note that the 5 extra snippets will be in order of when they were written & uploaded, not necessarily 5 chapters of any given story.
