Figures that I should address this.
Someone told me that they really disliked the amazon interactions for a couple of reasons.
One, the amazons were too hostile and not very diplomatic, two they provoked what was evidently a super bieng without having Donna present to fight him if things got out of hand, and finally Mark was bieng way too compliant.
Here are my answers for those:
For one, Amazons have a really really REALLY bad history with super powered people showing up on their island unannounced. Donna is a super special case but the rest of the time, everyone who shows up on the island unannounced tends to be an asshole at best, and I'm including the Greek Gods in that.
For two, Hippolyta isn't an average amazon, and quite powerfull in her own right. The bet would be that she himself could handle him, though I admit they heavily underestimated him due to seeing how injured he was when he first arrived.
BTW - Mark does consider breaking the chain, and there's an interaction he has with Hippolyta where he demonstrates that he can break the chain if he were so inclined.
Finally, Mark only goes along with it at first because he knows he can get out of the situation at any point. There's no part but the end where he's not in absolute control of the situation even if the Amazons don't know it, and the only reason he folds in the end is plot relevant and will be explained near the end of the Arc.
Still I see why some people have these objections and appreciate anyone sharing any others.
I hope I haven't put anyone off.
Have a good night.
