The rulebook.
I've decided to run the Genius game I want to play myself instead of asking others to GM it, because that will actually result in a game, and maybe even one just how I like it. I've chosen IRC as the medium because Play-by-post is very slow. I thought this thread would be a good place for people to record their interest, though, and apparently this will not result in my being devoured by silicate wasps brought into being through modly power! Good things all around.
I like this game because of the flexibility of the Wonder system allowing people to build pretty much whatever they feel like once they have the right Axioms (that is, the dots on the sheet which tell me what kinds of things your character knows how to create), the theme of terrifying freedom, and the sense of bizarre absurdity.
I'm deferring my decision on what sort of Genius game I want to run until I know who wants to play with me and what sort of game they want to play.
I intend to make a GMPC, and I strive to be fair about this. Please tell me if I'm being unfair in this or any other matter - I'd much rather know what mistakes I'm making than have you stew in quiet resentment.
I intend to use the alternate Prostasia (that's the dots on the sheet which means you can create protective stuff) rules, as they give the Axiom the same degree of tieredness as the other Axioms, allow for the otherwise missing structure Wonders, and give Prostasia some total bullshit to play with at rank 5 like the other Axioms have.
Before investing in Skafoi (the ability to create transportation stuff), please be aware that time travel makes my head explode. This is only a concern at Skafoi 5, though, and that still has temporal distortion and moar dice to play with.
I'll probably be more generous about xp than the base system.
I don't intend to actually stop you from doing anything, including lewd things. If that means I have to ask a mod to move this thread, so be it.
It is my opinion that metagaming is a tool that can be used both to further the cause of an entertaining game and to damage it. I vastly prefer the former.
The esteemed kinglugia has recommended that we steal from this thread for a defunct game on Sufficient Velocity. Their character creation guide doesn't take into account any house rules I make (modified Prostasia, other books I have besides the core two, and the Science skill should be either "SCIENCE!!" or "Science, dammit!!!!", with the latter being for unmada, just off the top of my head), but it seems pretty good otherwise.
