Well...Shit. It hurts to see that famous landmark turning into cinders. I can't even imagine how many priceless items, and other things that were kept and maintained for centuries went up in smoke.

Thankfully they managed to save it with zero casaulties aside from one injured firefighter and (almost) no permanent losses

Please, this is far too big for someone to try and "subvert expectations." Trust me, it'll be fine.

You sure they didn't mean to say....uh what's the word... tenders? I'm not familiar with french language but this might be just misunderstanding caused by lost meaning in translation.

I hope your right but i am really worried they will build a glass monstrosity in its place.

Reposting this from the Tumblr rants thread:

Verizon just sold Tumblr, to the folks who own Wordpress for a measly 3 million USD. (Yahoo, whom Verizon inherited the social media platform from, paid $1.1 billion to acquire it in 2013, so Verizon only got .27% of the acquisition price out of the deal, though the ability to use that kind of a bath as a tax write-off reportedly played a role in Verizon's decision to let Tumblr go for peanuts.)

The previous biggest bath someone took on social media purchases the article writers were able to find involved Bebo, which AOL bought for $890 million in 2008, only to unload it for $10 million to a private equity firm two years later (which later sold it back to its founder for $1 million.)

Online wags were quick to note that the $3 million sale price could also get you a modest suburban home in many Silicon Valley neighborhoods (frex Matthew Yglesias found this 3 br, 1.5 bath 1,400 SF home in Los Altos, CA going for $3.198 million)- YMMV which would be the more useful investment.

ISIS leader al-Baghdadi's underwear stolen by Kurdish spy for DNA test before raid, official says

Before the U.S. military positively identified the headless body of the world's most wanted terrorist killed in a daring raid, a Kurdish spy slipped into Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's compound and stole his underwear to confirm the long-sought ISIS leader's identity through DNA, a Kurdish official said.
Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) senior adviser Polat Can said Monday that the Kurdish-led force's own sources tracked al-Baghdadi to Idlib, Syria, before beginning to work with the CIA to keep tabs on the terror leader. He said al-Baghdadi was known to move often and was soon expected to change locations.

Before al-Baghdadi could move, a Kurdish undercover operative was able to reach him and retrieve the self-styled "Caliph's" underwear, Can said. Through a DNA test, he said they were able to confirm "100%" that the person of interest was al-Baghdadi.

Navy vessel fired at cruise ship, then rammed it. Cruise ship that has a reinforced hull for sailing in icy waters.

Icebreaker cruise ship ended with minor damage, warship sunk.

Venezuela accused the Resolute of an act of "aggression and piracy". And rambled that the ship maybe "was transporting mercenaries to attack military bases in Venezuela".

Careers as sunk as their vessel. That´s how things like this always seem to end.

At least it sunk at sea, not in the harbor because lack of funding.
That's an achievement for Venezuela...

COVID-19: China buffoons 'all-weather ally' Pakistan by sending 'underwear' masks

Islamabad [Pakistan], April 5 (ANI): China has not even spared its 'all-weather ally' Pakistan. Promising to provide testing kits and top-quality N95 masks to Pakistan in a bid to help the country that has been crippled by the lethal coronavirus outbreak, Beijing actually duped its 'friend' by sending in masks made out of underwears.
Reporting the news, a local Pakistani news channel said, "CHina ne chuna laga diya" (CHina conned us) and further notified that the Sindh provincial government sent the masks to hospitals without checking.
"In the name of to-quality N95 masks, China has sent in masks made out of underwear. It was also a lacuna on the part of the provincial health authorities who received the medical aid. Without proper checking, the masks were sent to Qatar hospital in Karachi. Over there, the doctors and para-medical staff called it buffooning by China," Lahore based News Break TV reported.

We're doing that Planet of the Apes shit in real life now. Neat.

More and more I feel confident that we're all stuck in the matrix and someone fucked up a line of code somewhere so now tropes, references and memes are starting to bleed into our simulated reality.

Why cant they just work on genetically engineered cat girls for domestic ownership? Why must they tempt Murphy and Darwin when they could settle for Descartes?

The monkeys were aborted, likely due to fears that the brain would be too large to comfortably fit into the skulls of the animals, which would have lead to increased aggression and other mental problems or death.
