So I'm really not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but recently I've been toying with an idea for a fic (if I ever post it, it would end up in nsfw by dint of being a WC fic) and I'm looking for help constructing a name for one of the characters. More specifically, the character in question is a Nasuverse Artoria (alter) who has 'achieved' her grail wish of having her past existence erased prior to the fifth war and now wishes to completely disassociate with 'a person that never existed'. She'd be fine with just being the Servant Saber, but the MC is pushing her to create a new identity of her own choice.

The part I need help with, is I have no idea how to begin creating a new name and there's not exactly a pre-existing expansive list of Brythonic female names somewhere for me to pick from as far as I know, and while Welsh is a descendant of the language, it's not a one to one. Combined this with my own lack of knowledge about the language and the best I can do is cudgel together something from words I've found online.

Speaking of, what I have got is in the spoiler below.
So, let's start with the words I've found that I took note of as potentials, as it were, and my understanding of their meaning.
Cynt (Meaning: First, Before, Primary)
Gual (Meaning: Ruler, Leader)
Ri (Meaning: King)
Iudd (Meaning: Lord)
Derch (Meaning: Exalted)
Iesin (Meaning: Shinning, Radiant, Beautiful)
Caled (Meaning: Rough, Hard, Cruel)
Cein (Meaning: Good, Nice, Lovely)
Ben (Meaning: Woman)
Gur (Meaning: Man)

Those are the words I took a shine to to, and below are some of the potential and probably very rough/mangled names I've built from them.
Cynbenri (Meaning: First-Woman-King : High-Queen : First Woman of the Kingdom -it sounds nice enough to say but it's also seems to be more of a title than anything else)
Cyntiesinri (Meaning: First-Radiant-King : Great-King : The Great King -eh to say, also more a title than name +/- it alludes to her old life.
Bencaleiudd (Meaning: Woman-Hard-Lord : Cruel-Lady : The Callous Noblewoman -Feels good to say for me at least, and it seems apropos for Artoria's Alter personality. Honestly it's my current favourite and what I'll probably run with if it isn't actually too butchered.)
Iesingual (Meaning: Shinning-Leader : The Haloed Commander -This one I am the most unsure about.)

I'd appreciate any help people are willing to give in that regard, failing all else I could probably just have the MC push her to reinvent the person with the name Artoria as it were.

If her goal for this name is disassociating from the person she used to be, it might make more sense for her to avoid names that are related to kingship. Or her old life in general.

How much meaning do you want there? With the set up it would make sense for her to go for a more 'plain' name, and the list of Brythonic names that do exist online should do for that.

That is a fair point about avoiding names that call out 'noble' or are reminiscent of her old life. In regards to meaning, I'm trying for a name that at least relates to her to some degree either with regards to physical features or to her more prominent personality traits, which probably rules out entirely avoiding reminders of her old life. That, and she seems such a cynic that even if her wish is successful and she erased her past to an outsider's view, I'm not sure she could actually let go of it as much as she probably wishes she could.

Part of the problem with grabbing pre-existing Brythonic names off the net is that most of the recorded ones tend to relate to traits of nobility, leadership or championship in addition to being predominantly masculine. The few recorded female names I can find either don't properly fit, or were already in use by the people she knew in life.

Ehh, did some digging for a few more words that might work while avoiding the nobility aspects. Slightly expanded list below.
-an (Diminutive suffix)
El- (Intensive prefix)
Cynt (Meaning: First, Before, Primary)
Gual (Meaning: Ruler, Leader)
Ri (Meaning: King)
Iudd (Meaning: Lord)
Derch (Meaning: Exalted)
Iesin (Meaning: Shinning, Radiant, Beautiful)
Caled (Meaning: Rough, Hard, Cruel)
Cein (Meaning: Good, Nice, Lovely)
Bran (Meaning: Crow/Raven)
Coel (Meaning: Omen, Reputation)
Argant (Meaning: Silver)
Cat (Meaning: Battle)
Caru (Meaning: To desire, To Love
Awen (Meaning: Inspiration, Muse)
Haearn (Meaning: Iron)
Bron (Meaning: Breast, Heart)
Ben (Meaning: Woman)
Gur (Meaning: Man)
Rhain (Meaning: Maiden)

The still very rough and undoubtedly mangled names I've built from them.
Cynbenri (Meaning: First-Woman-King : High-Queen : First Woman of the Kingdom)
Cyntiesinri (Meaning: First-Radiant-King : Great-King : The Great King)

Bencaleiudd (Meaning: Woman-Hard-Lord : Cruel-Lady : The Callous Noblewoman -Feels good to say for me at least, and it seems apropos for Artoria's Alter personality.)
Iesingual (Meaning: Shinning-Leader : The Haloed Commander)
Argantrhain (Meaning: Silver-Maiden : Fairly simplistic name, relates to Alter's complexion and nearly white hair.)
Caledgwaed (Meaning: Cruel-Reputation : On one hand it fits, on the other hand it calls back to her past too much in addition to being a tad on the nose.)
Arganawen (Meaning: Silver-Muse : Relates to physical traits, sounds nice enough to say and doesn't call back to anything in particular. Probably between this one and Bencaleiudd right now).
Bronhaearn (Meaning: Heart-Iron : Heart of Iron / Iron-Hearted : Fits alter's personality that she expresses a bit more, just not particularly fond of it myself.)

Makes sense. Not sure whether you already found this one but 76 female names is the best I was able to find.

Alastriona/ Alastrine/ Alastrina = "Defends Mankind" (I'm assuming she got out of the Counter Guardian business, but it'd still fit her)

Arienh = Oath

Lyonesse = Little Lion

Yeah, those do work. I did see that list and initially dismissed it due to it being a fandom wikia but have checked it now. Just not sure which names both fit and are ones Artoria might go for. Couple other potentials I saw were Moira (Exceptional) and Carey (Dark One, bit on the nose for her alter personality though). Potentially also Rowena (White, Comely). Going to think it over, will probably solidify a choice once I've got a couple of chapters drafted.

Thanks for chipping in mizzet.
