• An addendum to Rule 3 regarding fan-translated works of things such as Web Novels has been made. Please see here for details.

  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.
  • The rules regarding NSFW links have been updated. See here for details.

So, I know there is no literal rule against this, however I was always under the impression that it was a general no-no to ask for or about an update from an author. However, I've been seeing more and more this happening where a person asks for the status of an update or even outright for an update. In some of the cases when others tried to tell them, what seemed to me to be a simple gentle reminder of forum courtesy, to not ask about that, that doing so is rude, the author then comes in and not only answered the post, posted an update, and/or corrected the other people saying it's okay to directly come out and ask for or about an update. So now I'm not really sure whether I'm okay to ask about this, does anyone have any idea what the general guideline is for asking for and about updates now?

You can ask when the next update is going to be. We mostly hit that when someone posts it in a thread where it's been over a month since the last reply, as that violates Rule 7, but, for dead threads, you can still ask on the authors profile or in a PM.

Whether it's rude or not, or how any particular author feels about it, idk. Opinions probably vary on whether it's considered pushy or demonstrating enthusiasm/interest.

I'd never really heard anyone mention thinking that was rude or anything. To be fair, most authors I know have set release schedules there days, but like, if its been a few weeks (and you're not necro-ing) I don't really see any reason not to ask.

It tends to vary, author to author.

As long as it's not a necro, or the only thing they ever post it's usually ok.

Now if people would just stop the tftc shit and use the "Like" function like normal internet dwellers. 😒

Honestly I don't mind tftc. Always nice to get some engagement.

As long as people are polite about it, I enjoy the engagement and the sign of appreciation.
If someone is rude and demanding, acting as though they're owed something?
This I find aggravating.
