Question about thread marks.

Sorry if this is a ludicrously dumb question but I'm new to this and also really bad with technology. But what exactly do the threadmark Index's and Initial threadmarks mean? I'm assuming that the threadmark index is the little blurb of dialogue at the start of quests and the like that give you an idea of what it is about, but I wanted to make sure.
 
Last time I made a thread was before part of those features were implemented.

But yes, I believe the 'Threadmark Index' is the small blurb at the top explaining the thread at the top of the page. And the 'Initial Threadmark' should just be what the first threadmark for the thread/on its first post will be.
