Random Crossover Idea Ghost in the shell/Cyberpunk

Hey all, I'm fairly new here but seeing everyone's posts has inspired me to rewatch some older anime and other series.

As a result of this, I had a random idea and I figured I'd share and get some thoughts from the group. Has anyone considered a Ghost in the shell / Cyberpunk 2077 crossover?

Ghost in the shell is an older series, but it shares many themes with Cyberpunk and I feel like a character from GITS could probably get by fairly nicely in Night City. Major Kusanagi would blend in super well with just about any group. The hardest part is really trying to figure out how she would get there in a way that's not just being magiced away.

Unfortunately, the fanfiction selection for Ghost in the shell is fairly small, so perhaps this could inspire some additions to it

Let me know your thoughts!

Its an interesting idea but be aware that there is currently ONE ghost in the shell\cyberpunk fic. Only it honestly started getting tedious to deal with because it got a little too deep into the emotional aspect of the series.

MC reborn as a sorta quarter borg that got her implants ripped out by scavs, family are a longstanding part of the tiger claw gang, she and her brother are all that is left and she is generally left to deal with her asshole brother.

It honestly got very annoying to deal with the LONG stretches of emotional baggage. Yeah its nice to get some of that but at that point it felt like a drama romcom rather than an action tragedy. Got like 75 chapters in before I quit reading.

Test it out but PLEASE keep the drama and sad shit in moderation. I would love to see the MC Borg up and break some shit.

I really like this crossover idea! Major Kusanagi in Night City sounds awesome. A perfect mix of cyberpunk vibes and tech intrigue!

It's not really a crossover, tho. She has the same name, but she isn't Motoko Kusagani, in fact, she'd be more like a gamer in the cyberpunk world

Don't know much about either series but methods of transmigration I do so just pick whichever fits.
  • Experimental teleportation/faster than light/phaseshifting technology gone wrong.
  • Stopping a doomsday device that malfunctions when hacked or blown up.
  • Attempt at time travel to fix the past gone sideways instead.
  • Have both Earths you want to crossover exist in the same universe, and the person goes there by means of a spaceship- possibly a one way trip by means of a malfunctioning FTL drive.
  • Just plain have them create dimensional travel technology with your protagonist as one of the volunteers.
  • Getting sucked into a black hole, artificial or natural.
  • Have the protagonist gain a 'System', which is often an artificial intelligence existing in higher dimensions created by advanced civilizations with functions such as transmigration for the purposes of entertaining said advanced civilizations, stealing luck from those world's protagonists, stealing some form of energy from that planet by changing destiny (aka altering the plot), saving that world, destroying it, fulfilling requests of whoever's body you inhabit when you're transmigrated only as a spirit and so on.
  • My personal favorite scifi 'transmigration' frozen in cryogenic stasis/carbonite/turned to stone or whatnot, the world as they know it ends, the new world you want them to transmigrate into being born on the ruins of the old only for them to eventually find and thaw the protagonist. This one also allows for you to utilize whatever technology you want to use from the first world into the second; just have the new people find and backwards engineer some of the old world stuff.
