I want to post a thread and discussion about what a country would look like if it had ten times as many people. Is this okay?

It's basically an alternate history thread.

Here's the transcript:
So I'm interested in having a discussion with everyone on Questionable Questing about some matters regarding alternate history, infrastructure, demographics and population change. I'm overall curious to know how countries effect or change based on a steady growth to a larger population.

I mean I love reading about Geopolitics and how they function based on what a country can do, what it needs and what it balances.

For example I'm once read "Embracing Defeat - Japan Post World War 2", "Asia's Reckoning" and am now reading "China's Asian Dream" and it talks a lot about how workforce, labor, social norms and "Deep technology" was effected by new larger generations and greater amounts of people.

So I'm curious to know what you're country (the user or post) would look like if there was ten times as many people in this. The only rules for this scenario are as follows:

  1. Similar Population Distribution i.e. Try to keep the same density per square kilometer; so if you city has 10,000 per square kilometer it now has 100,000
  2. Similar Ethnic Composition i.e. if the old UK has 5% British Asians it has 5% British Asians still. That just plays out the same
  3. Near Future Technology i.e. We don't want space elevators or anything that would be TOO high tech. This is a discussion on nations. See here for help.
  4. Assume a steady growth from either immigration and/or birth rates similar to our timeline but magnified
  5. Similar living standards but with ten times as much GDP i.e. If Saudi Arabia (fuck those guys) has a GDP of $800 Billion they now have a GDP of $8 Trillion Now
  6. This change is over the course of 75 Years from Post World War 2 to the start of Covid - 19 i.e. it is between 1945 to 2019 (which is the end of an era) where growth is supercharged. After that it's normal
I'm really curious to know what your nation would look like and how it would act in such a situation.

In practice, there is no way that such a discussion thread would stay away from rule 8.

If you want to write an alt-history story, that's fine if you diverge enough, but making it a matter for discussion will 100% lead to problems if you get participation.

I see. I love urban planning and discussions about geopolitics. Nevertheless what would you recommend I do?

I'm curious why you want to have this discussion on QQ. I know that there's a community on Sufficient Velocity, and I know that a lot of that community came to SV from an alternate history specific forum site. Is there something you wanted to explore that would make those not suitable?

Probably because SV only approves of alt-history when that alt-history explores the "right" paths and that specific alt history site, for all that I do like it, has issues.

Yep. For example; talk and write about a pogrom in sufficient velocity based on what you know and research?

Warning and flak from mods.

Talk about the effects of a mass death scenario with proper build up like Trump trying to kill all the Muslims in America? Warning from mods.

The mods on both subs have a huge double speak and cognitive dissonance when it comes to atrocities, explanations, thoughts and history. They tend to be very happy to ban people despite being able to appropriately justify how things would play out and why.

History is very violent and racist. Alternate history is and should be as well.

What the mods on both websites live and abide by seems to be "White Liberal Fantasy" ideals and not actual reality.

I made a point once that if the event of the Holocaust was an alternate history timeline the user would be banned. Or if Covid was a fictional plague people would call it unrealistic.

History requires you to read and understand how and why not things play out. And when you research matters you realize how fragile things really are.

Things are bad. They will be bad. Humans are by evolution very violent and horrible creatures (I.e. 1% of all humans every year was murdered by another human).

Closing your eyes to reality is something you shouldn't do but the mods on both those sites tend to do so.

I'll give you a personal example. I pointed out that an Australian elected Party leader of a left wing Party was very racist from personal experience since I lived in his seat whilst he was a small time politician rising the ranks. The posters there refused to believe me and the mods criticized me for making stuff up.

I wasn't. I wasn't then and I am not now.

But they refused to believe me. It's only now when some people are commenting on it in the official news media that a few users there are talking about it (but not much).

It's a lot like the Black lives matter movement in a way as well when I comes to politics. Many of the white users refuse to believe what non white users say until they're forced to.

Sorry about the long-winded rant but it's a deeply personal topic for me but I don't apologize saying it.

Hello, I'll be your mod for the day, ThePoarter

The issue with what you want, in terms of thread topics...
https://forum.questionablequesting....f-covid-19-was-ten-times-more-deadlier.16062/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/mega-sized-canada-alternate-history.16016/

And your hypothetical
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/rule-8-question.16075/#post-4755616

Questionable Questing was originally meant to be a place to have fun, be it with writing/reading stories or running/participating in quests.

We had to institute rule 8 because tempers got riled up with politics being swung about every where and smacking people in the faces like a bad doujin or hentai anime. And when tempers run hot, people can make inadvisable posts that can't really be taken back.

So... rule 8, no current politics was made. It was an outgrowth of rule 1, which is basically don't be a jackass jerk.

The 20 year limitation is more a thing to avoid volitile and contentious subjects/topics that will cause tempers to run hot.

If you were running a quest or doing a story or even one of the timelines with fluff that AH.com likes to do, that'd be one thing... the mods will keep an eye on the thread but in general, it would be fine.

What you want is a "discussion" on potentially diversive and contentious topics, such as Covid-19 and geopolitics... I'm going to say this now, I work in the healthcare industry (granted as customer support), it's not a joking matter. It's a sensitive topic, about an on-going pandemic.

Wanting to "discuss" on what if it's 10 times deadlier? Not kosher.

Very not kosher.

Because this is a subject that is sensitive, and affects the lives and health of actual people. Yes, this includes members of this forum. And is very much the heart of political issues right now, as is evident when you look at the news and see people protesting in reaction to the measures taken by their governments.

We've had mods talk to you and it seems like the message just goes right by you on why certain topics/threads are a bad idea, despite not being against the rules.

So, again, I will re-iterate this.

* Just because something isn't against the current rules does not necessarily mean it's a good idea to run as a discussion.

* Questionable Questing is a forum originally meant for naughty/lewd/fun quests and stories.

* Questionable Questing is not a forum for political ranting or discussions that will become fertile ground for a political screaming shitshow.

Yep got it. I mean that's partially why I'm here. I mean I am better now.

The pandemic has actually made me realize what I value and what matters to me.

I like talking to people and I like actually discussing things like this. However I do understand why it wouldn't be appropriate on questionable questing.

Still I like this forum and how it is so far. It's I guess how I want to live my day.

Better.

It's something to look forward to after lockdown.

And I know things are though for many people. It's going to be tough for a long time.

Still that's why I asked first.

I'll always ask first.

And I know better. I hope I am better for this forum and for you people here.

Is talking about my experiences with racism for the past few days against the rules?
