Would making a thread asking if authoritarianism an inherently bad things against rule 8?

You might as well ask if setting a house on fire will lead to that house burning down. Even if the thread wasn't inherently against rule 8, surely it would just be a bait thread.

If I had a euro for every time someone asks about rule 8

I can't even parse this question, and therefore cannot answer it.

However, in general, QQ is not meant to be a place for discussing questions of political philosophy. If you want to have a discussion about the nature of authoritarianism, it is probably better off elsewhere.

In the same vain: What about discussing old political topics, that are still not "over"?
I assume topics that recently gained new relevance (like for example antisemitism due to Israel/Gaza) falls under forbidden under Rule 8.
But I came here from a Fiction writing Discord.

Would writing a story about Communists be breaking the rule (assuming of course that their ideology actually features and isn't just setdressing)?
Would it make a difference if it's about long dead irl communists vs ficticious communists planning the world revolution a current setting?

So, the history of Rule 8 is that after certain political events happened, the internet at large could not discuss them (or other following political topics) without devolving into flamewars. QQ, being for porn, decided that they did not want to spend the staff time to moderate said flamewars, which were popping up all over the place, given that political discussion is not at all the purpose of the site. Rule 1 (play nice) wasn't cutting it, so Rule 8 was born, in hopes of reducing the load.

In many ways, Rule 8 is an extension of Rule 1, so you can frame your questions in that regard: how likely would this topic be to spark a flamewar?

Rule 8 carves out recent politics as one such topic grouping that could cause said flamewars.

To answer your examples specifically, antsemitism itself probably would fall under Rule 8 due to likely sparking a flamewar due to the red hot Israel/Gaza topic. Communists and communism as long as it isn't calling out specific modern day stuff would probably be fine, as it probably wouldn't spark a flamewar.

As always, feel free to PM the staff for something more specific if you have specific story beats you want to do that might run afoul of things. We are more than willing to review and give advice.

Also, in general Rule 8 is significantly relaxed when it comes to stories. Restricting political discussion is one thing, since it's not the point of the site, but we don't want to put roadblocks in the path of authors writing what they want. Thus, there's almost no case where something you write in a story will be a Rule 8 issue.
