Ah. So it was the Bossman effectively saying "stay out of our business, and we'll stay out of yours". Well, at least now if Nash gets in trouble with them it will be because it was actively seeking him out!

I'd like to have faith Nash has enough common sense to not seek out that trouble himself.

Thanks for the chapter.

If we can throw ideas for future team members, I'd like to suggest Tyrogue.

Nash is pretty fighting type coded, and having a mini me copying his boxing would be very cute.

The call really doesn't make sense. No threats, no demands, what could the caller possibly have gotten from it? A mob boss isn't going to waste time calling someone unless there is some benefit to them in it.

A few things, though not major ones.

1. Barristan is an old-school gangster. Respect matters; people under his employ violated his orders and created a problem for someone else. It's good manners to tell them it's sorted.

2. Cessation of hostilities. Yeah, they could take Gible and Eevee if they were absolutely dedicated to it. But this guy's put 3 people in the ER so far. The only upgrade from there is the morgue. By offering a bridge out he avoids making an enemy of someone who may feel they have no other choices.

3. It lets him back down without losing face. Barristan doesn't want to kill Nash. He could have it done. But after everything, it costs him more than it gains him. He kills Nash and takes the Pokémon, or just takes the Pokémon and injures Nash badly. Because there will be a fight. Now the case has reopened harder, and his organisation is even more exposed. He doesn't want that. Offering Nash an out also lets him look magnanimous to others. Violence is a tool Barristan isn't afraid of using. But it's not the best tool right now.

4. How Nash acts afterwards gives Barristan an idea of the man he's dealing with. Nash takes it and decides to distance himself from what happened. Excellent business continues as normal, nothing to worry about. Nash decides to start looking. Okay start moving pieces and get ready to remove him once the board is set. The second one costs more money, time, man power, bribes, ect.
