Video Games General

Is Resident Evil Requiem as good everyone says it is?

I'm thinking about ordering a copy.
Its modern RE in a nutshell so as long as you skip all cutscene, don't give a fuck about lore or thing making sense and are here only for the gameplay it's 200% worth the price even if its schizo and more or less 2 game in one on that front

Modern resident evil is not THAT bad (besides the 3 remake), did Ethan Winters shoot your dog? I've rarely seen such hatred of all of it.

Its not a question of bad (exept 6) and more a rupture of tone from the OG trilogy and the 4 onward. The old trilogy and spin off were survival horror and the post RE 4 are just 80s action flick made video game. Honnestly it took me the release of 5 to trully appreciate 4 and the full energy of WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *unload a month of texas ammo production while spewing Chuck Norris facts* enregy the modern RE had

Do you think the last RE game was 6 or something?
NO, GOD NO. The 6 was bad but it had the decency to not tell me to my face that 5 and itself hasn't any weight in the storyline and you can forget about it like 8 did for 7. And fuck me sideway i liked 7 even with all its flaw (fuck you Mia you should have died years before the start of the game you vile bitch, Zoe all the way), it still filled my hunger for survival horror at the time. While forcing some stupid pre origin story for Umbrela's funding and going downhill after Mommy D's fight. Much like the utter OOCness they forced on mah god complex boi Spencer. And all that whille teasing us about the best story to be told but will never be made (BSAA BOW craze)

OTOH after a bit of fucking arround in CS2 latest update am i the only one thinking it was the biggest posible man of all update? The insta loss of mag at reload is such a waste imo tossing the fully used mag make sense but keep the one where you still have even a single bullet while puting a rng on the mag used to reload.

At what point did 8 make 7 not matter? 8 was entirely caused by 7 just like RE3 was caused by RE1. There wasn't even a real origin story, they just happened to be searching for the same thing and found 2 different answers, RE1 already had most of it...

S&box will allow people to make games on a touched up Source Engine 2 and release games without needing to pay royalties.

Gary said the negotiations with Valve were stressful, but I don't see why, he was only trying to convince them to do nothing and win!

IDK, maybe the fact that story wise he could have NOT BEEN HERE and the outcome would have stayed the same? Or maybe the fact tha he died off camera like a chump WHILE he was SHOWN MULTIPLE TIME to no sell death both in 7 and in 8? or small things like why the fuck Chris didn't bring into the fold the juggernaut Ethan clearly was by the end of 7 just to have Rose teased as the next beg thing in univers by 8 yet where the fuck is she? what happen? don't know. Don't ask question just consume product and then get excited for next product

Ethan wasn't that much of a juggernaut though, like sure he got through 7 but he was by no means a super soldier or wanted to be one(also still ended up getting trained by Chris after 7 anyways), he got through the game to be with his wife and Chris isn't such a piece of shit that'd he'd tear him away from bis family to fight Wesker's third removed cousin from the side of his grandma and his super fungi in Venezuela.

As for Rose the answer is pretty easy? Resident evil takes place on a pretty short time span and the games are never that far away from each other chronologically, Rose was born in 2020, re8 is in 2021, re9 is in October 2026 and the re8 dlc happens in 2037 while she is 17, unless you want a huge unexplainable timeskip the answer to "what is Rose doing?" is obvious, Rosemary Winters is 6, she's currently chewing on crayons in kindergarten.

What's the alternative? Forcefully age Rose so she doesn't have a childhood because fuck Ethan in particular? Unexplained timeskip where our heroes are now in a retirement house playing monopoly instead of more stories with them? Do we draft Mia? Have Rose on her tricycle do an occasional drive by on zombies?

While I agree with the general point here, uh I don't think mr "Oh my hand's come off let me just put it back on and pour some water on it and I'll be fine" can realistically be called not a good material for a super soldier and a lot harder to put down than your average human. Admittedly RE humans can randomly be super just cause but still, Ethan is probably heads and shoulders above most human troops even by 7.

Except he was? At the start of 7 without being infected he goes to enough trauma to leave a solid 80% of people in shock and dying shortly that alone make him stand out. But by the end of 7 he is a high end BOW and lets be honest there was no real familly by the end of 7. That bitch Mia was away from any mariage for years (nevermind being a happy worker for psycho monsters of the Connection doing montrous thing for them with a smille) Ethan learn of all she did but still simped for her (and yes i'm aware that someone at capcon was the OG simp and railroaded the ship) And yes Chris woudn't have forced the issue of forced recruitment but leaving the guy in the dark like a worthless bait? Nah
As for Rose your right it is simple: just don't dangle the keychain like they did at the end thats my problem. The hint at the start of 8 of her being also a superhuman like her parrents would and should have been enough not the fat finger teaser for RE 16 there is a thing called moderation after all

I feel like Rule 5 of the Disclaimer is gonna be hardest to follow here. Dunno if any of this counts as a "Rant", more edging into "Review" territory and the Topic is vague enough to make it hard to figure out what is and isn't on it.

Well I have had a string of shoddy Games ending up in my Library. Anyway focusing elsewhere, got Tripang² and the entirety of Dishonored 1 because both the packs were on Sale at single digit prices. Also got "theHunter: Call of the Wild" which I have been more actively Playing and the "De Re Metallica" DLC for Opus Magnum which I finished both for the Spring Sale.

The guy making the quicksilver extraction is a genius and the Great Houses are undeserving of his work. He accidentally made teleportation technology thinking he found a way to literally turn mercury directly into literally anything else and gave the Rivari Wheel a real functional use instead of being an overpriced knockoff of the Van Berlo Wheel. The Great Houses are just too stupid to realize how useful traumatizing metals into vomiting their quicksilver is. Although now I want to know what the instructions on using the "Pior Tree" actually are given it would quickly cause problems if it doesn't mention it's literally taking metals out of the walls and thus requires a stockpile of the existing material and a requiring of the system to change the stockpile to be quicksilver extraction. His initial invention was more useful honestly but the problem of "what to do with the quicksilver" comes into play. But the ability to divide metals into lesser versions is astonishing and can easily manufacture three inputs of the same metal for the cost of two.

Having trouble with the new Update to the Journal meant to promote the DLC though but those are challenges anyway and I suck at this Game. Thought I could do Mooring Cable but can't figure out how to align the bindings to slide the whole thing and the arms ain't long enough. Rethinking what position to focus on from the silver to the lower iron atom and bouncing it. Although Lodestone looks easy enough.
The hunting Game is really not one to recommend. It actively incentivizes DLCs. Alternatively Learn to Code, the Game is 100GB+ because all the DLCs are part of the base game and are unlocked by buying them so theoretically you could forcibly do it. Anyway, it also semi-accurate simulates hunting so you'll fail a lot especially early on. So if you get it then it's best to wait for the Starter Pack to go on Sale, getting the portable Fast Travel camp and ATVs and things that make the Game viable. Only QoL things that made half the base game content possible were literal promotionals from 2024 but even then there's holes. Pretty much Playing it as a literal Hiking Simulator... Not the Genre but thet I basically am doing nothing but hiking complete with the wildlife interactions you would expect. Did get some funny and interesting experiences though. The free ammo is nice for training on the birds given they react to being hit even though they turn to feather puffs on the ground though.

Have two interesting stories of getting acquainted with the aggression and damage systems:

Shot a bear at night with the Stradivarius and went to go get it when the hunt pressure registered on the map. Halfway there I ended up discovering a moose rest zone. By running through it. As loudly as possible. While an entire herd was in it. Saw their shadows standing up and start fleeing everywhere when I heard thumping behind me and turn around to see I was getting charged. So I think "don't they only go in straight lines" and run off to the side leading to the big horned brute to miss. Tried again so I pull out the Ranger with the free ammo to shoot it into being scared off. Really shows how durable they are against the wrong ammo type given I put three bullets into the things chest and it charged one more time before it decided to leave. Only "lightly bleeding flesh wound" to from the blood puddle. Reminder these things have the largest hearts in the game to the point that aiming for the lungs from the front ensures a heart shot instead. Anyway, didn't get hurt in the slightest and had more trouble finding the bear.

Another time was a funny one where I also got to learn how effective the sight system is. I was at the eastern rid of Balmont Lake crawling through some brush after hearing something trotting around in hopes I could get a pistol rating (still only have 0 pistol rating. Short range and all that). I hear the thumping getting louder and louder, was prone but looking out from a hill and had binos out from thinking it was from down in the forest. I look left and see a whitetail doe walking up on me. I forget where I put my revolver on my scroll wheel. First I oull out the free promo one I use for bears and moose that get too close. Then the Stradivarius free promo rifle I use for hunting bears and moose. Then the Ranger and consider using that. Then I pull out the right revolver when the whitetail stops and stares at me. I stare at her. She stares at me. I aim at her. She rushes me. And I get hurt for the first time in the game. Not falling, not the moose, not even later when a black bear decides to flee down a mountain by charging me from the top of it while I'm halfway down it trying to get to the watchtower. A whitetail doe. Should be noted dying by falling down that mountain while heading towards the outpost is what lead to me deciding to change preserves to the Hirscher one. Having a lot more better time and I like the side missions for Hirscher more. Fallow deer are a lot more easier and there's less class 1s. Also discovering just why the solid rounds are recommended more then the hollowpoints given I am instantly downing things with the penetrators far more consistently then with hollowpoints, to the point I have literally watched the hunt pressure manifest on the map several seconds after pulling up the map. Usually it's not worth even bothering with hollowpoints. No wonder the free ammo is hollowpoint.

Speaking of class 1s: if you don't down them in front of you then don't bother. Got hunt pressure for a marriam turkey that slammed into a tree after putting some birdshot into them. Never could find the body and found the blood puddle listing as vital organ damage but trail completely stopped there. Was hoping that would be my first trophy rating for birds to. Also you will never get a trophy rating for class 1s in this Game without the DLC. Maybe the rabbits but the birds require them to be in flight and the shotgun is less "hybrid between sniper rifle and revolver" the real one functions like and more the "ammo based melee weapon" that all Video Games use. The range goes a bit more further but "more further" is meaningless in this Game of non-Metaphorical distances. For Reference: shotguns are used for hunting birds from the ground to the sky in the Real World. The punt gun had to be made Illegal because it was a shotgun the size of a cannon Named for the type of boat it was to be mounted on Designed to hunt entire flocks while they were in the air and was so effective it nearly made the North American bird population Extinct. But this birdshot disappears into the ether quite quickly.

Had some confusing time with trails as well. I got a fallow deer, hunt pressure and all. Chased it to a road... Only for the tracks to make a circle. Eventually I decided "why not go in the opposite direction of the furthest track?". So I do that. Found another for the trail... Also pointed in the wrong direction. So I figured if I follow them in reverse either the game will loop the trail back on itself or something will happen. Or I'll get bored and shoot something else. The only track that wasn't point in the wrong direction was the blood puddle next to the body. All of them for a mile were pointed away from each other. Even the model for the tracks matched where they were pointed like the deer took its sweet time in its dying moments to say "fuck you in particular" and walkee backwards.

Also discovering how OP both stands and lures are but aside from keeping your smell down I don't see much use for the scents. They're limited use and depend on wind direction. Lures and callers are AoE centered on you and work within the same range as you can hear the calls and can be used repeatedly. Scents have a 5 minute duration while callers have 1 1/2 but again you can spam callers. Have had ample opportunity for fox hunting and the free predator lure could bring them in but, well, I like foxes. I'm not gonna shoot them even if they were too small a target for me to reliably hit. The lack of big game has also what made me free up inventory with just the Ranger, free promo revolver, and shotgun with birdshot. I get there european bison in those forests... Somewhere... But the Ranger ammo is rated for it. Still dunno why I should bother upgrading, the thing is pretty fine as is. Same range, same stats (and in many cases better) and cheap ammo.

Anyway, this is what I always wanted in a dinosaur hunting game when I was little. Played Predators 2 when I was a polyp. Should be lying around... Somewhere. Doubt it runs on any Modern hardware even if the disc works. Got to Play "Predators: Hunter Reborn" years back but it just feels like an incomplete version.
They F.E.A.R. you. As they should.

Still indecisive about the upcoming Rogue West DLC for Bloodwest. Seems like it's the equivalent to a sequel though. More for weapon sway reasons.

Also got Fallout 4.
Fun with settlements. Don't know why I would ever use the lightning gun and the shoehorning or CC Content makes for the glitchiest of factions. At least got the X02. Also wow this Game is railroaded, no wonder one of the factions is literally called the Railroad. I even made an effort to go anywhere but Concord in the beginning, accidentally saved Valentine, then got accused by the Railroad of setting up a meeting with them when I did the logical RP thing of "hm, my Character would be confused by someone drawing numbers on this old memorial to the Revolutionary War and probably follow it to see why" and figure out the puzzle literally telling people how to open their door. Apparently Deacon thinks curious whimsy in helping robots try and get a robot powered colonial vessel into the Atlantic means I want to fuck a toaster. I still want to fuck toasters but it wasn't because of that I wanted to see where that bounty of absurdity was heading.

[Cut for realizing this is a Rant]

Did the hybrid Institute/Minuteman ending because it genuinely seems like the only real "good" ending. Minutemen want stability and safety. Institute needs a leader with actual goals and has proven themselves an unkillable juggernaut that can outthink them if they trying this self contradictory bullshit of autojustification by destabilizing things so they can use the instability as excuse in destabilizing things. Also found out that the raiders and the fall of the Minutemen is because of the Railroad. In Game Lore I mean, not outside of it. The Railroad needed a distraction so Quincy happened. The Railroad created Libertalia. The Railroad experimented in mindwiping leading to the synth that killed the first Commonwealth Government leading to the current bullshit with the Institute and the Institute is still arguing with itself over it and throwing blame at everyone. Railroad also views the Minutemen as a "reflection of the Commonwealth" (reminder the Railroad created that reflection) and thus "chaos is the inherent nature if the Commonwealth and thus it is of the Minutemen" (even though the Railroad is using the chaos and caused it). For all intents and purposes they're using the same argument as the Institute but whereas the Institute doesn't care if you help the factions and might even become more receptive of the Surface in time the Railroad won't all it to stabilize and you can't trust the words of a faction that's all about black ops. They already had proven manipulative. Their activities also in itself is what is leading to the isolationism and terrorism of the Institute by how the Railroad has been doing things. Effectively making an ouroboros that requires one or the other to die for anything to improve. Either the Railroad ceases and things eventually improve as the Institute quiets down or the Institute dissolves resulting in the Railroad ceasing to have Reason to Exist except to protect what synths they have retrieved from being hunted for sport by the very chaos they helped cause.

The Mechanist Lair makes for a good base. I don't think it can even be raided? Also the Institute really needs to recruit that Isabel girl. Or the Minutemen. She wants to help. She just needs someone to troubleshoot and shoot trouble.

Far Harbor was... Eh, didn't want to join a cult so I snuck in. Instead it found a new way to force me if I wanted the diplomatic ending. If it weren't for vendors being the only source of my better gun's ammo (and with Nukaworld that may not matter) I would be considering finishing that up with the raze them all ending; nuke the Radius, shutdown the wind farm, and organize the erasure of Arcadia. Loved the tower defense game actually.

Didn't really get many crashes till Nukaworld. Also the entirety of Nukaworld takes place in a tiny part of it. Again with the railroading, I literally stealthed a grenade into Colter's ass specifically to tell Gage to go fuck himself with his own supersoaker and it's like the Dialogue was Written to remind you that the Narrative says you used Watergun and found it Super Effective. Tried to do the same to him but apparently that makes the raiders start shooting their slaves so now I'm going to the point where they try to make me raid the Commonwealth. That's when the shooting will start. Going with hostile dialogue because, ya'know, Minuteman here. Hearing from the bosses that Gage is basically the one holding the leash of whoever is overboss makes me even more justified in not being their pet figurehead. Apparently failing a pickpocket makes murder to get their stuff justifiable so seeing if I can kill the bosses via hatecrime without getting everyone else hostile but I feel like the hostility is triggered by any part of Open Season being completed.

[Also Cut for realizing this is a Rant]

Speaking of crime: did find a glitch while with Valentine before the Brotherhood showed up of an abandoned raider power armor being considered theft. Stole the fusion core and Nick didn't like that. Even though it was abandoned and raider owned.

Annoyingly Bethesda can't tell the difference between being sarcastic and being rude. Only three times has "Sarcasm" not being "insult the person you're talking to". Most of my reloads have been just seeing if Sarcastic Dialogue was worth it. Still leads to the same tree but it's for RPs sake.

Anyway. Something funny from years back involving Video Games I just remembered:
I had been Playing Desperadoes 3 and had spent the entire time thinking "this would be so fun as a Pirates of the Caribbean sort of thing". It was after Playing Lego PotC and Watching PotC 1, 2, and 3 again btw. Was really just because pirates had been a weirdly consistent Theme for a couple months, didn't even seek any of them out (but that usually how my life goes. I didn't seek anything out, Reality does it for me. That means everything [glancing up at the Content Dusclaimer] including whatever I Post is interpreted it seems). An hour after I got bored and stopped I got to see a Wanderbots Video about Shadow Gambit. Literally the exact thing I was thinking of. Same Developer and everything. Uh, Mimimi made Isometric Tactical Stealth Games, effectively resurrected a decade plus dead Genre and reminding me why I loved it as a polyp and even improving it with a planning system that stops time (Shadow Mode for Shadow Tactics/Gambit and Desperadoes Mode for the other one) to set off characters individually or simultaneously. I think Mimimi is gone now though. Anyway, it also demonstrated the function of Streamers, Lets Players, and others like that in advertising. Would have never heard of it otherwise. Even the Algorithm was determined to prevent me from finding anything on it with it actively hiding Searches. Next time I saw anything was a Trailer on IGN's YouTube Channel from giving up and deciding to Watch those for anything good and later a different one on the Store Page.

Daedaulus, their Publisher for a time, tried making their own entry to the Genre separate from the Developer with Partisans. Somehow they managed to screw it up. Even did the sin of putting a Timed Mission in an IsoTectSte Game, the kind of Game that's antithetical to it. Was also fairly obviously XCOM Inspired.

The healing goop is made from the same herbs that patch bullet wounds in everyone else. He put some on his stump.

Then he gets killed.
Didn't the shrooms tell him off for thinking that it worked that way immediately after he died?

Eroge developer AliceSoft's official digital store announces closure due to provider ending services. Re-downloading purchased titles will be impossible from next year

AliceSoft is not the only developer affected by A-Cute's closure, as over 20 digital stores hosted by the platform will also be discontinuing sales, including adult game developer Atelier Kaguya. On the other hand, this does not affect AliceSoft titles sold through other digital platforms like Steam.

Man, that's a lot of devs getting fucked over. I hope all those devs can find other service providers. I hope they don't have to just eat the loss of their storefronts. Especially because that could be a lot of games just sort of lost if they aren't available on other platforms that aren't affected.
