Video Games General

When the hell did emulators get so easy to use? I got a copy of Dolphin and in five minutes of controller configuration I'm already playing Skies of Arcadia again.

Also HOLY SHIT I'M PLAYING SKIES OF ARCADIA AGAIN I FUCKING LOVE TECHNOLOGY.
Dolphin also plays Wii games, not just GCN... but you'll still need an actual Wii Plus remote for Skyward Sword and possibly MP3.

I'm currently playing Castlevania CotM on a 3DS via virtual console injection. That and an installed DS emulator allow me to play what feels like Nintendo's entire 80s-90s and handheld 00s library on one device.

That would be because Dolphin has now been, and still is, benefiting from years of regular optimization, while most older emulator stop at "good enough".

I knew 3DS emulation was deep, but I wasn't expecting this. A jailbroken system can play the following:

  • NES games through a couple different emulators
  • SNES games (O3DS needs to run these through an emulator - Snes9x - but N3DS doesn't)
  • GB/GBC games through a couple different emulators
  • GBA games through VC injection. Every 3DS ever built has the GBA hardware already included as a holdover from the Ambassadors promotion, so it's just a matter of installing the games.
  • Sega Genesis / Master System / Mega Drive / CD games through PicoDrive (the only Sega-only series I even know is Sonic, and those were all eventually ported to GBA anyway :/ )
  • Turbografx-16/PC-Engine games through TemperPCE (I never had this system and have no idea what it offered)
  • DS roms through the TwilightMenu (Zelda PH and ST won't progress past their openings, and Pokemon's multiplayer aspect means you're always better off with actual cartridges and save editing, but CV DOS/POR/OOE are just fine)
  • 3DS roms, if you convert them into .cia executables first
  • some PSX games, including FF7, FFT, Spyro 1-2, SOTN, and Valkyrie Profile 1, through PSCX (the emulator devs are only testing it on N3DSs)
I'm installing Bravely Default right now.

So I'm looking at a playthrough of Shining Resonance Refrain, I think I like it, despite the mediocre music for a music being so important and the blatant fanservice DLCs.

Edit: Mostly because of how seemingly reasonable everyone is.

Please tell me the main character stop being angsty. The demo killed any and all interest I had in the game because of that guy alone.

Incidentally, Master Blaster Zero 2 also came out yesterday, for those that care. The plot is, basically, going to find a cure for your waifu.

Some, of course, already joked the infection seemed to have had one nice side-benefit at least. Or two. ^_^;

The stream for the vampire the masquerade game that paradox is making is live. Go to their twitch for livestream.

Time to stir up the rumor mill!

TLDR: Monolithsoft is recruiting a lot of game designer and programmer talent to work on a new Zelda game. Those of you who keep track of developers may remember that Monolithsoft was brought on board by Nintendo to assist with the creation of Breath of the Wild, but this new project is something they're doing in-house out of their Kyoto studio, the one that worked on Zelda previously.

So what does this mean? Breath of the Wild 2 perhaps? It would be a huge waste of resources for all that open world content to get chucked out the window as soon as Nintendo starts working on the next big Zelda entry. I for one would be very welcome to a Majora's Mask-type sequel with reused assets to get another game out the door without a 4-5 year development cycle.

So, Iron Harvest updated today and a new unit has been added: MG Gunners. The last update added medics, but this opens more possibilities... as they are best in cover and eat infantry (and lightly armored mechs) alive...

n Season 17, dubbed the Season of Nightmares, player's damage dealt will be increased by 750% and damage taken reduced by 4% for every Ancient item you'll have equipped while having no active Set bonuses.

Well, that season is interesting.

I hope they give ancient items as hagrid's gifts, otherwise that bonus is largely going to be pointless for the majority of people playing.

Ancient items do not drop often.

Playin' the demo for Zanki-Zero: Last Beginning. The gameplay's kinda weird. First person dungeon crawler mixed with one of them resource gathering survival games and a bit of the Sims with bladder and stress management. I don't know if it's really my bag yet; I feel like it might end up in the "don't want to play it but, I'd watch the show" category.

I put it there partly because the story's interesting so far and "Such an impertinent weiner. I shall remember this" is one my new favorite lines ever. :V

What is it with Japan and piss jokes tho?
