Video Games General

I can second that Unicorn Overlord demo being good. I mean, its Vanillaware so I was going to like it anyway, but hot damn is it good.
Nice to have second vote of confidence in it. I was very interested in Yddgra Union years ago but never got to play it. Plus with a name like Unicorn Overlord… I was expecting something very different, mainly because I didn't see the Direct for it.

I mean, its an easy purchase for me because I've liked every Vanillaware game I have played, so I trust those folks to make good games.

What's vanillaware? Is that the name of the developer studio?

Happened past a game called "Lil Guardsman" in which you play as a substitute gate guard named Lil. Who is 12.

It's supposed to be a fantasy take on 'Papers Please' though I imagine less depressing.

Never played Papers, but I did play the H-Game version, which was fun even aside from molesting people coming through.

Lil Guardsman looks cute and silly from what I can see, wishlist'd.

There's a porn partody of Papers please?

By the way, for those that have a hitch for pokemon games, Pokemmo is a thing. Aka, they link together multiple games to form one bigger game as you can travel between regions via boat. A global trade very alive as you can purchase pokemon and see all IV stats and the guys also raised the difficulty of the games a notch higher.

I mean, did not expect Brock's Onyx to have goddamn Dragonbreath.

Technically, you need roms for it, but it so happen that they do not distribute those, so Nintendo cannot shut them down for it

Well that's a oneshot up until around level 20
Huh, no? It's stil a special attack move and Onyx is not the best at those. The paralysis can be dangerous, but it's more of a check to see if you are underlevelled, I think, instead of going full grass/water starter on him.

Misty however, oh boy. Goldeen with Peck, Psydeck with Confusion and Aerial Ace and Starmie with Psywave, Confuse Ray and Water Pulse. Unless you went by the GTS, your grass type is probably also poison type and Starmie is likely fast enough to fuck up an electric type if you have one. Surge's Raichu has Grass Knot and a Shuca berry if you think one Diglett will carry you in his gym too.

But anywya... I think the nicest thing about this is how you see, well, very other player around you (In the same channel anyway). There's a notice if they are in a fight, but it's kinda nice to see others around you. You can even challenge them in matches too. And it has the feature of having a pokémon follow behind you if you want too, so you can see one of the team of others too.

Also, NPC trainer rematches are up 6 horus after last fight and they update their team depending on yoru progress in the region, so no fear of truly lacking money.

Are you perhaps thinking of Dragon Rage?

... maybe...

Finished the Tale of Onogoro.

(I'm not crying, you're crying.gif, if it doesn't load)

(Also, they really missed an opportunity during phase 2 of the final boss- I kept trying to grab her hand and it would've been a good story beat to let you try and pull her out and fail.)

Looked up the alternate ending because I'd heard it was even more depressing... which it was. Some low-tier Nier-verse level of shit, actually.

I will recc it, it was a decent puzzle game and hanging out with Haru was a lot of fun. Don't bother with the alternate ending unless you just really want to see the Modern Girl outfit though. I do like the Dark Priestess outfit, but I'm not going to play through the game again anytime soon.

Still, I think that was the longest (story mode) VR game I've played so far, clocking in at nearly... 300 minutes, I think? That's recorded time, I think, not including menus and any levels where I died.

Going to download RUINSMAGUS and try that later, supposed to be a full RPG, by the same studio but with better combat.

EDIT: Oh, but Steam registers 8 hours of playtime, so that's probably closer.

Those wanting the game beware, Unicorn Overlord game has been leaked and spoilers are bound to appear at the usual places for them.

Which is pretty much as expected, really.

Gonna have to look into them myself. The localization team has apparently been taking liberties and I wanna be sure they didn't do anything moronic.

good thing I looked up the one thing I wanted to know before that happened.

Eh, I don't remember any particular black mark for Vanillaware, but do warn us under spoilers if you find something especially bad.

Last I heard, they may have used more flowery speech than direct translation, but that's the kind of thing I have come to expect from them and I loved Odin Sphere anyway.

Yeah, that's what I'd heard so far. The new lines are still in character and such, they're just more elaborate and fantasy-y.

From the examples I've seen there are more sentences added here and there. I don't particularly see it as that bad, but localization can get very bad about completely changing certain scenes. So I'm being cautious more than anything else.

I have heard a few skills are completely mistranslated though. That's something to keep note of.

Those should get patched at least, so long as those are real anyway.

I mean, lord know we heard some things about games that was pure bullshit before release.

It cannot possibly be as bad as the 'Freeze the game if you do not kill this boss in 3 turns' type of issue. FFS Ar Tonelico 2... But at least doing that was very possible.

Tried a bit of Unicorn Overlord, feels like a less turn based Fire Emblem so far.

Trust me, it will feel less like that soon.

I'm going for expert. The game WILL ask you tto think about your matchups properly or the game WILL fuck you over. You cannot just punch harder to resolve some issues. Unlike Fire Emblem, you cannot just rely on elites to carry everyone else. Hoplites, for exemple, WILL halt any unit that isn't set with anti-armor or magic options to take it down.

Like Knights and Generals from FE.

I only played a half hour(?), so I'm not deep into the demo in the slightest but what I have seen is very good.

Saw a post about Yoshinori Kitase asking fans how they'd want Chrono Trigger remade, and I had a few ideas- sadly I don't know a way to get them sent in, but hear me out -

So I played Midnight Suns recently, and I really liked the... "Active battlefield" they used. Could do something similar, but without the card-based full turn system (you all go, enemies all go) just have battles happen on-field with maybe some stage hazards, turn-based and some moves can toss enemies around. Maybe some more AoE moves to encourage getting enemies close together, with the risk they might move.

I feel like that would work better than FF7R's full action RPG, anyway.
