Worm cyoa v6

made this on a highschool computer when i was bored a year or two ago. I know it's not that good but still surprised that nobody's used it. Personally think they can't handle the idea of writing a worm fic that actually fits the setting and has to work for power and respect. Better than fucking v1 when it comes to balance for the setting that's for sure! Anyway, what build would you make? how'd you build up in Brockton? Do ya thing my companions are fun? Do you think it's time for someone to make a hardcore worm fic? Has anyone actually had the balls to kill the undersides? Thoughts?

I have just read through your CYOA and I think I know why no one used it. First, it feels very work in progress. The formating feels like you were trying to have each shard start at the top of the page but the distances from the top of the page are inconsistent, and there are two blank pages for no reason. Second most of the time when people are doing a CYOA they are not looking for balanced, they are looking for a power fantasy. Why do you think the earlier Worm CYOAs get so many stories but the v5 which is halfway balanced gets so few? And even when it does get a story it is usually someone using one of the many ways to break what little balance it has. Thirdly on a more stylistic note, the whole thing feels very teenagery. The ROB is the worst part for me, It feels like a 15 or 16 year old trying to do psycho god and doing cringe worthy job of it.

Not to mention that it's just very boring and bland. Like, legit, it makes me ask what the point even is. Showing up naked is worth 2 points, being hunted down by a top end cape is worth barely over double. It also feels like it rewards psychos way more than people actually interested in writing a story. Honestly, if anything, CYOA's like this justify the existence of Meta CYOA's to kick ROB's like this in the nuts.

If the base CYOA isn't good, at best people will cheat, at worst people will forget it exists immediately after they walk away.

Short version: This is low effort garbage that has more in common with a random 4chan shit post than worm.
Long version:
- No introduction at all. Anyone who just scroll down on reddit's CYOA subreddit for example, would have zero idea if this CYOA is even based on something or just a random low quality wall of text, if they don't have prior knowledge of Worm.
- You mentioned shards, that's okay, but are they Zion shards, Eden shards, Abaddon shards or maybe ROB shards?
How much energy do they have(potential life span of the shard..., can we second trigger?(Eden/Cauldon Capes can't for example), are the powers static or they grow with use(Canon Zion shard used the carrot too, not just the stick)...
- ROB, okay he/she/it is a trope but that's not the problem. The problem is that there could have been so many options(Zion's subconsciously seeking death, Abaddon got piss drunk on Entity version of Moonshine, a malfunctioning fail-safe for Eden, a forth entity, a fucking space time vortex or anything... Yet you had to choose this sorry excuse of self-righteous, utter case of edgelord of a ROB.
Fics based on CYOAs are either, as previously mentioned, power fantasies, or someone actually wanting to have an adventure then they will seek something that at least resemble quality. This can't be used for either. Fics based on this would be, as I said before, shit posts at best...
- Read the beginning P.S. and tell me you can take this thing seriously(something needed if you want "challenging" CYOAs. The conclusion is an utter joke.

Maybe. Wouldn't use photoshop or something though, just maybe add some companions and ways to get points.

Can you future explain what it mean to actually be a War Tinker, And Relay Tinker? cause as it stand I doesn't know what they meant.

They're the different types of tinker categories. Every power has a more precise category to it, tinkers are just the ones most needing clarification due to amount of restrictions each type brings. War tinkers are specialized in turning themselves into a badass. Power armor, guns, grenades, cannons etc. Relay tinkers have all their tech connected to each other via wires, signals, or a hive mind etc. The point is all of their stuff is part of a larger whole. Architect tinkers are simple, they only make large scale stuff. Most of their tech is car sized at least and usually work as factories, shaker abilities, or war mechs. Wildbow made a bunch of docs about it on the weaverdice reddit. Check it out.

Also relay but thanks for the expansion.

My favorite is and will alway be "Butcher" Resource Tinker, with a Drawback sooo steep its basically a detriment, but with a crafting speed so fast that the drawback is just there to troll you.

My favorite is and will alway be "Butcher" Resource Tinker, with a Drawback sooo steep its basically a detriment, but with a crafting speed so fast that the drawback is just there to troll you.

Okay so, How Worm are you trying to make your CYOA?
Is it based on a Kidnapped Shard ROB kidnapped from other cycle?
I like the Idea of TheAnt Shard: Reality Blue
An Alien Civs that put a fight to the Entity through sheer technology Imitation of Power to a lesser degree. And as a spite against the entity they unleashed a virus, where they give knowledge of their tech to infect the shard so that the host will have a Tinker Sidepower along with their main power.

Or you can do the Cauldron Vial: Where each power is Ironic to what the people's problem.

A idea for The Glutton:
12 Point Power:
Nest

-Regenerator
-Body Part/organic Tissues of house that is seperate from the main body become Minion(can be little gremlin, insect, etc) Minion can be just mindless or can be attached to other shard to gain a Minor of that power variation of said linked power.

Or Organic Hive:
Able to incorporate Living Organism into body, Not like Organic Adaptation, it like you are a walking ecosystem inside you.
Tyranid's Grub Launcher style

The Shield Bearer:
Material Tinker: Able to make exotic matter that behave differently when exposes to the current world Physic:
Wonky Energy direction/Manipulation: when hit by something it behave in a different way, laser instead of cauterizing the users, will instead split into different wavelength, or be treated like a ice ray instead.

Storm Witch:
Gas Minion: Minion is created from different gases the user ingested, User gases/toxin tolerant is increase to a upper limit, but can still get OD

Mostly I'm trying to make it worm by making sure all the powers fit into the setting but you can still be a badass. No bullshit like all of v5's trump powers. All the abilities given out in worm are not capable of defeating an entity on their own, the fairy queen and eidolon are the exception. All the ways to get points are designed to make it so you need to EARN powers through suffering. Pretty much I'm trying to make the hardcore but not unfair cyoa where your choices matter, unlike v1-v3 where you can close your eyes, put the powers on a dartboard, throw and still be More powerful than an entity. Still get pissed whenever a worm fic has biokinesis allow for PLANT MANIPULATION! That and the constant bitching are what I hate about most si's. Especially when they have broken powers.

The CYOA's after it were made with the idea in mind that nobody actually liked how BS the first edition was, and as such made it so that if you wanted to be a top tier cape it'd take a lot of resources rather than just being the default option.

But the fact is, it was still possible to dump all of your points on powers and be really strong but without things that are actually really important in reality, such as connections, actual skills, resources, and friends that can have your back. Sure it's easy to become a Hobo with Triumvirate tier powers, but you'd still have no real skills or abilities and you probably had to take some potentially lethal drawbacks to do so.

Yours however is so bitchy about those kinds of people that it becomes even more bitchy and whiny than the people you were complaining about.

The thing is. Everyone uses the first 3. And even if they didn't, v5's entire trump section was broken along with a lot of power combo's you could make, even if you didn't have skills it wouldn't matter because you could go toe-to-toe with Zion, friends are dirt cheap in v5 also. What I'm trying to make is a cyoa that can't be used for minmaxing bullshit and fits the settings bleakness.

First of all, not cool. Second, that's kinda hard to quantify, there are dozens of average worm cyoa fics out there. Most of them have the si bitching about being in worm multiple times. Sun Tzu CYOA on the other hand, is not as broken but still up there depending on how you interpret "Qualitative Improvement"
Worm 4 CYOA: Every Power is A+ Tier, it said so on the beginning page, and it all can be combined to formed new power
Worm 5 Aleph, and New Update Bet: Depend on how you interpret Abaddon Shard(see contessa)
Nightgazer CYOA(Still save most of it on my drive to look back on) Broken as shiiiiiiiiiitttttt
Worm Curzard Edition: Nice
Worm Eclipses: Worm 3 and revised 3 but more insane and run on pure bullshit
