I just hit the Cici interlude in Play Test, and for almost any other story I would have dropped it right there. It's a testament to how skilled you are as an author that I am holding out hope for a good (or at least satisfying) resolution.
Applying "black myth" to "journey to the west" is a pleonasm, as the original text laid grounds for a dark or twisted world; "the world is lacking, it will eventually end and collapse", "longevity does not mean immortality", "gods and demons both desire more lifespan, why else would they eat sanzang or the heavenly peaches", etc etc etc

It was mostly cleaned up in recent adaptations like how grimms fairy tales are, just like how sanzang's horse is the third son of a dragon king who ate the original horse, because he got big mad cuz he got NTRd on his wedding night, so after crashing out he got punished to guard a river, where he ate people and sanzang's horse

but adaptations cleaned the NTR out
