苏荃 (Su Quan) in The Deer and Cauldron is actually inspired by 苏麻喇姑 (Sumalagu)... I never expected this, but looking into it, Jin Yong likes to use actual real world people as inspiration for characters, such as 鸠摩罗什 (Kumārajīva) inspired Jiumozhi in Demigods and Semidevils, but some characters ruin the reputation of their inspiration, like Yin Zhiping in Return of Condor Heroes, which got changed

Just read through Shackled Queen. Holy crap, was that a story. Bleak, dark, bloody. Shame it ended right before the going got real good. It gives me ideas.
