Feel The Ground Shake (Pokemon - Ground-type specialist)

Hypothetically if the MC had water affinity instead, what pokemon would he choose?

I mean it's hard to guess but he'd have at minimum a Totodile and a Blastoise. Anything after is up in the air since water types have both the most amount of pokemon and arnt really region locked. I'd love to see him with a shiny best fish of A tier potential

Unless they have high potential (at least B or B+), MC choose Pokémon that performed well, at least decently at the competitive format:
  1. He'd be lucky to find a Squirtle (unless he remembers the island) and/or a Tododile in the wild with decent potential if he didn't get sponsored.
  2. Poliwag-line with a hidden ability for a Politoad with Drizzle.
  3. Slowpoke-line for its bulk, type combination and Mega potentials (if the Z-A pics aren't fake).
  4. Horsea-line for its Dragon typing.
  5. Staryu-line.
  6. Magikarp. Train it to evolve by swimming up a waterfall, like the lore which it's inspired from.
  7. Lapras.
  8. Azurill-line with Huge Power and for its Fairy typing, and because Marill so cute (and for its Mega potential, if the Z-A pics aren't fake).
  9. From his trip to Unova, Frillish-line for its rare type combination and/or Tympole-line as a substitute Mudkip.

Ah, the mirror B roster 😂

(If you don't get the joke type in mirror B Pokémon XD or Colosseum* into YouTube)

*Only his XD team has 6 ludicolos though and that's near the final fight

The fact that Brad-You would want to win and a team that relies on Rain Dance which can be removed via Sunny Day is too risky.
Double Battle
Both Ludicolo
Each with Own Tempo
| Weather Ball | Teeter Dance | Mist | Fake Out |
| Blizzard | Teeter Dance | Sweet Scent/Snowscape | Fake Out |

It works, trust.

Chapter 26 New
Chapter 26

Orre Region, Pyrite Town

"Toge…" Togetic whined softly from atop her head. A little cry of worry but Rui just 'shushed' the tiny Fairy, peering her narrowed eyes around the corner of the building.

Five years. It had been five peaceful years since she had last seen those moronic hairstyles.

Folly and Trudly.

Her once upon a time kidnappers.

But why? Why were they free? After the takedown of Cipher half a decade ago, everyone involved with the production and dissemination of Shadow Pokémon should have been put away. Is it possible? Could they really have been released so soon?

Oh forget it. Who was she trying to fool? This was Orre. The barren land of the lawless. Where every policeman was either incompetent or corrupt and the worst crimes came with a slap on the wrist and a stern finger wag of "don't do it again."

And then she heard it.

The Music.

Only one man was so narcissistic - so completely self-absorbed and vapid enough - that he insisted on his own playlist following him wherever he went. Discordantly blaring from a speaker hidden within his supermassive red and white afro.

Miror B. danced onto the scene, moonwalking backwards because of course why wouldn't he and…wait…who were these other two alongside him?

Dressed in almost perfect mirrors of each other, the duo were bright red from head to toe. Sunglasses, hair, blazer, shoes, the only part that wasn't flame red was a white undershirt with a black tie.

Rui narrowed her eyes further.

Whatever it was that was going on, Wes needed to know about it.

Back in Johto

"Come on Ty, get the camera up, get the camera up! Come on! Are we good? Then hustle mister! Move!"

Her cameraman's hand starts doing a three count…two…one. "Good afternoon, people of Olivine! Your favorite independent teenage reporter Marci here! Coming to you live with some absolutely astonishing news from our very own Battle Tower! If initial reports are to be believed, a young Ex-Gym Trainer who recently went viral online is standing on the illustrious building's front lawn and accepting all challengers with a never-before-seen Pokémon! Let's go and see for ourselves shall we!"

The video feed jostles as both cameraman and freelance journalist jog into a light sprint.

When they finally turn the corner…

They are not prepared for what awaits them.

The earth shakes and rumbles as an Alpha Nidoking laughs itself silly. Pounding its fist on the ground as deep booming guffaws rip its way from its throat. The behemoth's trainer - exactly who her sources said it would be! - is also laughing…though he's at least endeavoring to be more polite about it. One hand is covering his mouth as he tries and fails to stifle himself and as a result seems to be in a fit of giggling.

Opposite them both is another man she recognizes! As any young aspiring reporter worth her salt should! It isn't enough to just know the Champion and his Elite Four! Anyone who's anyone also memorizes the Top 50 - Nay! The Top 100! - of their region's Ace Trainers as well!

Current ranking #33! Ace Trainer Austin! Teen heartthrob and quarter-finalist of the Silver Conference the year before last! Multiple-time high placer in the annual city wide tournament the 'Cianwood Championship' and a force to be reckoned with! With his powerful well-balanced team of Rapidash, Pidgeot, Haunter, Exeggutor, Hitmonchan and - of course leaving his powerful ace for last! - who can possibly forget his remarkable…Oh.

Marci's face cringes as she realizes.

A normal Nidoking.

Well she supposed that explains- The Alpha Nidoking all of Johto's Poké Net now knows of as 'Grundy' laughs harder as Austin the dreamboat - err, ah! That is - Austin the Ace Trainer starts getting more and more red in the face. His own Nidoking, 'Krieg' as she recalls its name, sprints forward in a rage. Absolute fury etched over its features.

Where it is then caught by Grundy's massive hand and casually lobbed into the nearby woods.

"KRIEG!" As the suddenly less attractive Ace Trainer starts running after his Pokémon, she sees her chance! It's time to get that interview of a lifetime! Then the real news stations will just have to hire her!

"Trainer Bradley! Trainer Bradley!" She runs forward, uncaring of how she's outpacing Ty and the camera behind her. "Is it true?" She sticks her microphone in his face, ignoring the subject's subtly raised eyebrow at the invasion of personal space. "They've been saying you've found a new evolution for the Pokémon Ursaring! Is it true! Is it dual-type?! Tell the people what they want to know!"

With a slow - contemptibly slow - finger, the interviewee pushes the microphone away from his face. "No."

Marci blinks dumbly at the refusal. "No?"

"No." the man confirms. "I already told the world how to get Mamoswine. That was your freebie. If you want to know about other evolutions, figure it out yourself."

"So you're confirming there is an evolution then!" She presses the attack! "You just wish to keep its methodology a secret? May we see the Pokémon in question? May we know its name?"

"No."

Marci's mouth hangs open again. "No..?"

"She's resting. She and the other members of my team have just run a gauntlet against multiple high-level opponents in a row without stopping. With the exception of a baby Swinub I'm raising, Grundy is the only one still fit to be out."

"Surely…we can see the Pokémon for just a moment..?" The teenage reporter tries to bargain. "Or ah! Maybe we could accompany you to the Pokémon Center!"

"No."

The rejection is too much to bear. "No..?" she utters a third time.

The interviewee sighs and scratches at his hair. "Look, kid -"

Kid?! Marci's jaw drops. She wasn't a kid! She was almost seventeen damn it! She was just… a little short for her age! That's all! And so what if her scruffy clothes made her look like a boy and…okay maybe she also skipped on the makeup toda-

"-if you really want to know then I'm sure someone over yonder managed to take a picture." he gestures with a head tilt towards the score of defeated opponents sulking on the sidelines. "Go talk to them. I think I've got the most I can get from this place for right now. Peace."

Her prisoner starts stalking away, his massive Nidoking trailing behind him, and Gah! Is that a real News van pulling up?! No fair, no fair!

She needs to start another interview fast or they were going to steal her story!

Olivine News Station

"Sam, what am I looking at right now?"

The reporter gulped. "An artist's rendi-"

"An artist's fucking rendition!" her boss slammed his fist on the desk. "A second-hand drawing! Are you really telling me that nobody took a photograph of this alleged new Pokémon? Not a single gods damned soul thought to take out a camera?! Is that even possible?!"

Frantic excuses begin spilling from the reporter's mouth. "T-two of the three trainers who fought against it were already back inside the Tower! And- and you know not even the press is allowed in there unless invited!" The director begins to growl at her and she gulps. "W-we can still run the sketch! Keep it as an 'alleged' new-"

"What am I running here, some Goldenrod tabloid!" Director Brunswick snapped back. "We don't put anything on the air without a goddamn confirmation! This station will not be responsible for the next 'Adnokana' incident! We will not be tricked by a fake evolution in an elaborate costume! Now get out there and get me some mother-lovin' proof!"

"Sir, I can't…" Samantha tried to whine. "I can't just go up to this trainer and demand to see it! You've seen who he is. He has an Alpha Nidoking!"

"And that's not my problem, Sam! It's yours!" Brunswick fired back. "You're an investigative journalist aren't you! Go investigate!"

The Next Day, Olivine City Gym

I stare at the small offending disk on the table. A scowl on my face as the metallic silver edges glint off the light.

As stoked as I am that my little stunt miraculously opened up an hour in the Gym Leader's schedule, this really isn't what I was looking to achieve.

"Please pick that back up." I speak somewhat tiredly.

Jasmine fidgets nervously. Her hands wringing in her lap as she isn't sure what to do. "Do…do you not want it?"

I pinch the Mineral Badge between two fingers and sigh annoyedly. "There's a story I know about a boy who earned more than a few Gym Badges without having to actually win a fight for them." I speak with frustration. "It…annoys me whenever I experience a parallel to that character. He wasn't an individual I particularly identified with."

"I'm sorry." Jasmine looks down. "It's just…the truth is I don't think I have any way to actually test you." The words seem to sap the life from her as she speaks them. As though it's some personal failure on her part to admit it. "This is my first year after taking over as Gym Leader and the fact is…" she struggles with her words for a moment. "...I don't have a Gym roster trained up for above the sixth Badge level yet. The only thing I could use against you is my personal team and that's prohibited."

"Well…" I hitch my voice a little. "I won't tell if you won't?" I try for a joke. "I'm sure whatever Steelix you have on your personal team is a monster. I don't mind if you want to slot that in with some sixth Badge types. There's a lot of power disparity on my team too."

"N-No!" The young woman seems scandalized at the very suggestion, going so far as to wave her hands in front of her. "That wouldn't be proper! It's one of the first rules we agree to as Gym Leaders! B-besides! Champion Lance has just decreed all Gym Leaders should keep their rosters at full deployability whenever possible! In- in case some sort of emergency with Kalos happens!"

I tilt my head at the last line and the girl mildly flinches. I…don't think I was supposed to hear that.

'I knew the international situation was tense, but it must be worse than I imagined if the Gym Leaders' best 'mons are all being ordered to stay on standby. Is there something the public isn't being told?'

"I'll accept this for now." I gesture with the Mineral Badge for a moment before tucking it into my pocket. "But I want it on the record that someday you owe me a good match. I get that between my viral video against Clair and the Battle Tower yesterday that I'm not a typical challenger. I get that. But I really don't want it being said that I didn't win my Badges fair and square. Just accepting a 'free' one from Pryce was bad enough in my book."

"Thank you." The brown-haired girl does a sort of half bow from where she's sitting. "I'm so sorry the Olivine Gym couldn't support you with a match at this time." she apologizes again.

"Yeah yeah." I wave it off. "Enough beating the dead Ponyta, it's fine. Since that's done with, can we move on to the more pressing issue please?"

Jasmine blinks dumbly at me. "Eh?" Her head tilts. An expression so clueless and innocent that I could almost see little cartoon question marks floating over her head. "Was that not everything? You had signed up for a high-level Badge fight and then publicly beat several other trainers who already had eight. I didn't want you wasting a week waiting around for no match so I cleared an hour. What else is there?"

'Oh for the love of-' "Okay. I wasn't pissed at your secretary before, I understand she was just doing her job, but I am now. While yes, it's true that eventually I needed to earn the Mineral Badge, I had a quick trip to Hoenn I was planning to do first. I reworked my whole schedule so I could ask you to look at a Steel-type I have. A rare Pokémon I have who is…well…'sick' isn't the correct word-"

In an instant Jasmine's personality does a 180. Her pure and harmless teenage girl temperament vanishes and her expression is serious. "A hurt Pokémon?" she asks with a narrowed brow. "Show me."

All throughout our conversation, starting from the moment she introduced herself and shook my hand, I couldn't believe that this was a woman who specialized in Steel-types. It seemed like a complete mismatch to who she was.

She was bubbly and naive and didn't really seem to possess any sort of spine.

'I take it all back. There's a wolf under that sheep's clothing.'

"Do you have somewhere that's just a teensy bit more private?" I make an obvious gesture towards the wall of clear glass windows and the standard security camera in the office's upper corner. "I'm afraid this is a case where discretion is a must."

'Also. I've had the strangest feeling that someone's been following me all morning.'

Seeing my face, the Gym Leader nods once. "Follow me."

Jasmine's hands run over Registeel's body as she presses her ear down to its chest, listening for what, I couldn't tell you. Though based on the frown on her face, I can only interpret that it isn't going well.

A Magnezone stands at Registeel's head, it's three magnets spinning as it does…something.

The two are being awfully tight-lipped about the examination. I'd interrupt to ask, but Jasmine's expression has shifted from serious to frankly speaking rather scary.
"You said you found him like this?" She demands answers again. "He's never moved. No reaction to external stimuli?"

"None." I confirm. "Dude was practically buried in a wall. I don't really know anything about geology or sedimentary movement, but for all I can guess he may have been there for centuries."

Jasmine's frown deepens further…before she minutely nods and seems to decide something. "Would you be comfortable…" She takes a deep breath as her tone becomes more somber. "...with leaving him here with me for a while?"

At her question, both of our expressions shift. Mine in the form of being somewhat taken aback and hers where that sweet innocent girl side from earlier bleeds through. Not by any choice on her part I don't think.

It was unintentional. A side-effect of the need in her eyes. Not from the fact that this Pokémon is powerful or that it's Legendary. As best I can tell, she doesn't care one smidgen about that.

It's a need to help someone who is hurt.

A desperate want. As though she'd stop at nothing, leave no stone unturned, no mountain unmoved, to fix whatever is wrong.

And with that look I can see the chain of events unfolding in my head. One shonen trope tied to the next in a long string of seasonal story arcs.

I could leave Registeel here, temporarily part ways with it like Ash did with so many of his own team…and the 'mon would flourish. Somehow, someway, through the power of love, friendship, and a sweet warm girl who truly genuinely cares…'Karn' here, would manage to wake up and begin to heal.

Which means…on some level…he'd always have a little bond with her, rather than me. Even if I came to take him back right away. Her face will always have been the first he saw when he finally woke.

So I looked that sweet, doe-eyed, very sincere girl in the face.

And said, "Absolutely Not."

MY Regi. Back off bitch.

"And that's not my problem, Sam! It's yours!" Brunswick fired back. "You're an investigative journalist aren't you! Go investigate!"
We'll probably see more of her from this point forward.

Lorelei: So much work! Easily avoidable! And now the rest of my weekend is ruined! Do you have anything to say for yourself?
Brad: Uh... you can evolve Pilloswine by teaching it Ancient Power?
Not enough. And at this point it's already public knowledge.
"Uh... I got a Razor Claw for your Sneasel? I figured out the Ice-type Eeveelution? There's a phenomenon called Mega Evolvution and Glalie is one of the Pokémon that can? Female Snorunt can evolve into an Ice/Ghost-type through an evolution stone? I'll be sure to even catch you Ice-types of other regions whenever I visit them? There's a cute one in Unova that looks like an ice cream."

Potential ideas:
  • After MC has acquired a Baltoy, give it a charge of TM Charge Beam as a counter against Water and/or Flying types.
  • I wonder when and who will MC decide to ask about Aura. Some Gym Leaders seem to be aware of it. I hope Lorelei is the one to provide the answers, if not Pryce, reluctantly after MC drop that bomb.
  • I hope Carter adds a batch of Nemuls as surprise bonus to the agreed batches of Baltoys and Trapinches. Say what you will of Camerupt, it's still can Mega evolve. Why didn't just catch an Onix-line when they're closer to home? Does MC thinks it's too cliche to catch, or is it just too big for MC to feed? Unless he catches a Pokémon with Mega potential of a different type, Onix-line is easiest to acquire compare to the other Ground-types. MC would have to be lucky to be allowed to leave Hoenn with a Mudkip-line. Gible-line is beyond reach, and if Team Rocket did steal one to compensate MC, Giovanni would intercept it and have it delivered to him instead.

Its kinda nice having little skips here and there, not everything needs to be outright said if between part is apparent. Lets the story move on as well.

Also the arbok evo ended up being fake in story I guess? Should go with seviper to be honest, which while venemous, behaves more like a constrictor than arbok does.
