Sneaking His Way into the Multiverse (RWBY Jaune, WC-lite mechanics)

Why would Sundancer have meta knowledge?
She's a video game nerd and presumably would recognize several of these worlds if she's as cultured as she allegedly should be considering she was playing competitive video games before she and the others got mind whammied by ziz

Why would Sundancer have meta knowledge?

She's from Earth Aleph. It's very similar to ours, and has basically a bunch of the exact same media (games, movies, tv shows, etc.) Monster Hunter almost definitely exists on her world. Add onto the fact that she was a member of a gaming club

I'm hoping Jaune does not get a upgrade to his sword or shield; rather I hope he gets either a axe or a hammer for his next weapon

Hey, hey, jaune, jaunerino, jaune my boy, your saving a snarky princess from a dragon, a real knight in shining armor, go make your dreams come true and hold it over Lisa's head forever.

Look, it's the leadup to mating season. How can any self respecting dragon woo the ladies if he doesn't have a princess in his hoard?

Yes, Tats is most definitely not royalty, but with the way she runs her mouth, she'd make a good pass as someone of the snide upper class who likes to eviscerate with her words.

Shes modern royalty (shes rich!) and the wyvern can sense it, I'm pretty sure it was implied her parents were upper class and when she gained her powers her parents started to use her to gain more.

anyways Tats power is intresting here, I wonder if shes can use it to convince the rathalos not to eat her. Read its intent and then act off it.

"Dammit. That thing is cute as a button and I want one!" she grumbled afterward, drudging back to the group.

Jaune gave her a helpless shrug. What, was she expecting him to do something about it?
You have the extendo-arm magic ability Jaune. Use it.
Jaune plunged into the forest, full-out sprinting after his partner to rescue her before she got eaten.
Tattletale is really fit for the Damsel in Distress role huh.
I'm hoping Jaune does not get a upgrade to his sword or shield; rather I hope he gets either a axe or a hammer for his next weapon
He barely knows how to use his sword and board and you want him to switch to a weapon he's got no experience with using in combat?

As powerful beats of the monster's wings carried it over the jungle, the girl hung in its grasp, legs and arms dangling. It lent her the impression of a small animal caught in the talons of a hawk, just silently gazing back at Jaune with this look of utter confusion on her face, like she has yet to catch up to the new development.
This made me laugh. I. Instantly had a mental image and for a second could clearly picture tattletales face.

His [Threat Detection Lv.1] went off like crazy.

Jax turned his head this way and that, trying to find where the danger was coming from. Not for the first time, he cursed Neo for his Point deficiency that kept him from making some upgrades. [Threat Detection Lv.2] would have taken care of locating the threat for him.

Jax scrunched his face in puzzlement as he failed to spot anyone nearby. Yet, the klaxon horn of [Threat Detection Lv.1] increased in volume. What was going on?

The thought struck him, then.

Combat was three-dimensional.

Which was why the troubles with the Olfactory Sensor frustrated Jaune so. Unfamiliar with the device, he could decipher neither head nor tail of the readings. The higher bars should translate to a better signal, shouldn't it? Except, the signal seemed pretty strong in multiple directions.

Oh, and now for some reason it maxed out across… the board….
Don't know if that was intentional or not on your part lazymoon, But Jaune getting pranked by the very same reason he managed to kill Jax Edgychicken is pretty great.

...It also made hunting their Rathalos all the more important. Each monster taken down meant one less participant in the upcoming crisis (or festival).

Dragon tracking was three-dimensional.

That was all that Jaune had time to think before the Rathalos crashed into him, shattering his Aura and piercing his organs.

You have died. Shame on your death, but you still had a pretty good run for just an NPC. Goodbye, you were most amusing.

And so, Jaune Arc, Accidental Worldjumper, died.

At least he made it further than his predecessor.

Tattletale liked to think of herself as a quick thinker who can adapt to unexpected circumstances.

Tattletale often overestimated her abilities.

Still, she thought in that narrow part of her mind that kicked in before the rest, she could be forgiven in this instance, as a surprise dragon tend to be pretty far on the 'day get worse' event lottery. Lung doesn't count of course, he was an expected dragon, an entirely different category.

That part of her mind that is meant to defend her intelligence is always the quickest to come back online. Later parts include shock at the attack, fear of the dragon, assessing the situation, and the ever late instinct to dodge that wouldn't have saved her either way if she was the target.

Grief, for the apparent death of her companion will come later.

Panic, that the dragon that took his corpse also took his Company smartphone and her only ticket for multiverse travel out of this hellhole will come in time.

And so, Lisa Wilbourn, also known as Sarah Livsey, accidental Worldjumper tag along. Found herself abandoned in a wonderful world of suspiciously friendly people and plentifully unfriendly giant monsters. There might have been some screaming when that sank in.

At least its better than earth Bet.

-o-

The Rathalos didn't really have a name you see. If one was to somehow converse with him and ask him what people most commonly call him, he would deign to answer that most people address him with screaming.

nevertheless, if he had to describe himself somehow right now, it would be with cramped.

And confused, of course. he had met a few hunters in his time and know some of their traps. But this shiny metal that trapped him in this small cell as soon as he accidently touched the glowy side was new. new and annoying.

In time, he would think to try and poke the shining rectangle again. And in time he would even manage to poke enough spots in the unfathomable sequence of bizarre shapes that will open a portal from his cell into a weird new world with weird new prey to hunt.

Mayhap he would accidently press a tab on the phone that go to a menu of two legged creatures. Mayhap he might even press on one of them.

Mayhap some poor waifu would get summoned and find that her new master find her attractive and appetizing in quiet a different way than what she expected when she got bought.

For now, he will continue to try and escape this accursed cage that the blond hunter had posthumously trapped him in.

And so, Rathalos, the fearsome monster, Started on his journey to sample everything that the Multiverse has to offer, once he finally manage to press the jump button.

At least the view from the window is nice.

I have not played Monster Hunter, so no clue about Rathalos aside from what was written.

Subversions of that trope are popular lately.
Jaune gets there, finds that he needs to save the dragon from Lisa and her lethal wordbreath because she just. Won't. Stop. Talking.

Does Jaune and Tattletale not realise they can sell monsters?
Why arent they trying to catch the small monsters they come across while exploring instead of rushing to clear the objective?
Cost-benefit analysis.
An object hanging on the wall takes almost no effort to pick up as they go for the grand prize.
A critter that bounces around and needs to be chased through the jungle = high effort for dubious amount of points. How rare would it even be, as they tire themselves out before a monster fight?

I beg of you, don't make me play monster hunter.

I know how this song and dance goes, I always get trappad in games by fanfiction
Honestly, writing this is making me want to pick up Monster Hunter World again. I miss the Coral Highlands.

I'm really wishing he had Sundancer instead of Lisa at this point.
It would be amusing to write an encounter between Sundancer and a dragon. Terrified out of her wits the whole time despite being fireproof.

Every time I see the story update, I get unreasonably excited. It's not often that I check just the plain creative writing section, but every now and again I find a gem that could go on any other site and could probably get more traction there. I really do appreciate the great dynamic between both Jaune and Lisa.

I've got no issue with the pacing of the story, but just wondering if you have an over arching, long-term plot, or is it just going to be there crazy – wacky ride through the Multiverse? If it's the latter, no problem at all because once again, I really do like the dynamic they have and you've established.
Happy you're enjoying the story!
Half and half. Some arcs are set in stone. They're where story threads tie together.
Some are up in the air, where the adventure is the thing.

I was just thinking to myself about how the time in nature seemed to be doing them both a lot of good and then the end of the chapter happened.
Nature is terrifying, even before they landed in Super Australia.

I can't wait for Tattletale being forced to admit that rather than the other worlds' people being weirdly nice and pretty, it's her world that's unusually ugly and mean.
Shounen anime worlds, where friendship and trust can literally translate to power, would break her mind.

You have the extendo-arm magic ability Jaune. Use it.
"And touch a rabbit? No, thanks," says Jaune.

This made me laugh. I. Instantly had a mental image and for a second could clearly picture tattletales face.
Oh good, I was really hoping for that when writing the scene!

Your omake made me laugh. Thanks for that.

I can't wait for Tattletale being forced to admit that rather than the other worlds' people being weirdly nice and pretty, it's her world that's unusually ugly and mean.

But that would mean Tattletale would have to admit that she's ugly and mean compared to the multiverse.

All the trauma of the total perspective vortex, in one go.

Not "ugly and mean". More like everyone else is forced to drink stupid juices and act like not a human beings, closer to the Marvel Civilians than anything.

Reminded me of the FGO/Worm fic where Goetia and Pillar Demons where isekai'ed to Earth Bet and take over the Cauldron, which lead to Goetia unfuck the whole Cauldron's stupidities and "hard men" plans. He did wonder on what on earth that are on Earth Bet that lead to 1. Timeline that would be pruned, 2. the peoples and inhabitant being, well..... thinking and acting like they are. Like as if theres stupid virus or someone shut off basic compassion and other human traits.

But that would mean Tattletale would have to admit that she's ugly and mean compared to the multiverse.
I would say more like she had to admit that she is a horrible, toxic person, and maybe also need to be sent to the nearest mentor/parental figures and psychiatrist 6 months ago at very least. Possibly also that she choose to be a POS, especially when compared to other characters. And that her people, society, and its entire civilization is not *normal* by any matrix.

Possibly even the peoples/characters of other settings may even suspected if theres not!Illuminati or hidden hand, or if theres alien/otherworldly force pulling string and make the society and humanity of Worm as it is, something like i mentioned above of a FGO/Worm fic.
All the trauma of the total perspective vortex, in one go.
well, the trauma that she is wrong, wrong, and what she does and had done isnt what she should, and she need help. And her experiences with peoples isnt normal or even ok. Bonus if rip apart the bandaid that she is a fictional character, and that she came from a setting whose point is being fucked up and grimdark, thus more trauma as she questioned the very reality of the Worm she used to know and udnerstood.

Honestly, i hope the Monster Hunter Arc last long as honestly i think Lisa and Jaune need to chill and train there for a while longer, while farming the coins alongside upgrading tools and stuff from the harvested monsters.
