  • Due to issues with external spam filters, QQ is currently unable to send any mail to Microsoft E-mail addresses. This includes any account at live.com, hotmail.com or msn.com. Signing up to the forum with one of these addresses will result in your verification E-mail never arriving. For best results, please use a different E-mail provider for your QQ address.
  • For prospective new members, a word of warning: don't use common names like Dennis, Simon, or Kenny if you decide to create an account. Spammers have used them all before you and gotten those names flagged in the anti-spam databases. Your account registration will be rejected because of it.
  • Since it has happened MULTIPLE times now, I want to be very clear about this. You do not get to abandon an account and create a new one. You do not get to pass an account to someone else and create a new one. If you do so anyway, you will be banned for creating sockpuppets.
  • Due to the actions of particularly persistent spammers and trolls, we will be banning disposable email addresses from today onward.

Question about how QQ's Image Proxy Works

How exactly does it work?

Does it take a snapshot of an image from Twitter/X (for example) and save a copy here on QQ, that people can right click on and see a larger version of or save without having to travel to the original host site?

Or is it actually linking you to the pictures source page/site if you want to see a larger version?

I'm just asking because, quite frankly my IT knowledge/skills are just above not using a disc drive as drink holder, and I know some image boards have malware or hostile redirect issues, and I would rather not get my tablet messed up.

It's this one.

Sometimes it fails for obscure endpoint-related reasons, and shows a broken image. However, it never shows a direct link to the source site.

So just to be clear, the only person that ever makes a internet connection with the images source site is the original poster to get the link for QQ, and anyone else here on QQ that either opens the image in a new tab to see it full sized/or save it, never leaves the site and instead utilizes a local copy stored here on QQ?

The original poster links an image which is copied (in a very compressed format) to QQ's servers. Other users only ever interact with that compressed version.

But, malware really isn't a problem today like you seem to be worried about. That kind of thing died off in the early 2010s. If whatever website you're on sees any real number of people use it regularly, and the moderation staff actually does their job, encountering any kind of malware is a one in a million scenario. Most threat actors today are too busy targeting companies and crypto nerds to bother credential fishing on relatively obscure fanfiction websites.
