I think it would be interesting if Grass beats Shiro in the race and feels triumphant about overcoming her rival...only to see that Shiro is genuinely content and in fact pleased with placing second. Something like that would unsettle Grass, chipping away at her vision of a rivalry with Shiro when Shiro doesn't seem to even care.
Ramonu is so fortunate to have not been saying that to Shiro instead; if someone gave her the so-called "advice" of channeling her grief into running, Shiro would probably quit on the spot, or even punch the speaker in the face depending on how she's handling her grief.
This really reflects the difference between Shiro and the other umas. For Shiro, running is something she naturally enjoys, but it's more of the instinctive thrill of movement rather than focused on racing alone, so she'd be perfectly find channeling her thirst for movement into another outlet like swimming or flying. For other umas, racing itself is what drives their hearts, and they wouldn't accept doing something else as a substitute."Swimming might be useful too."
"Really?"
"The buoyancy of the water means your legs aren't carrying all of your weight."
"Hmm…so that's why Trainer-san mentioned that…"
"You do not look very enthused."
"Well…it isn't running."
There was something to be said about loving what you do but Silence Suzuka might be taking it a bit far.
