When I said vulgarity it wasn't just smut. It was also saying curse words like fuck, or toning down the blood/guts stuff like that. Going from an R rating to a PG-13 if you want a different analogy. But I like the build up and tension. The laying out of battlelines mixed in with a brief overview of the geography and forces arms. Makes a skirmish against Brigands feel epic.

So prices. Old Magic as you saw with the Queen can at the high levels demand constant worship and appeasement. Dedicated ritual work to keep the spirits honoring you with power. Druids of the Old Gods perform services, offer sacrifice, or something else to get their lore.

Eternal Fires is feed the flames. Give them magical artifacts, the flesh of powerful invested. Just add fuel and your good.
Godstars is investment over time. For channeling their light Lucan doesn't have a price exccept for being indentured to their faith and priesthood for the rest of his life.

So if you want a big spell, you either need to give it more time to cook or you need a bigger fire to feed it. With bigger fires needing a bigger sacrifice to feed it. Sounds good.

With someone like Hurik who has war gods to power his magic he can't do the grand sorcery of the queen's weather manipulation but he still has quite the amount of power and his prices will be something to further the warring he already wants to do.

So he could theoretically call upon more power, but it would mean getting in debt to his Patrons or putting a toll on his body. What's his practical limit if he gets desperate enough?

Haven't figured that out yet and he is limited. Lyanna went for the big spirits of the sky and earth and so she gets blizzard and supernatural winter magic. Mastery of cold air and frigid water. The patron spirits Seamus has are able to give him bigger stuff but never will they give him the power to do the scale Hamish and Lyanna work at. Not in their nature.

Hubert in all this goes for small spirits and is a happy man for it. He wants enchantments for his weapons and armor and enjoys it enough

Why didn't Seamus go for the big stuff like Lyanna? And with Samus, maybe have it to where his Patron helps out in response to the size of threat he's facing? Where the bigger the problem and more in line it is with the patron's goals, the more power he throws at him at least for the time being?

Gives him a good limiter and is a good power for a protagonist since it's an excuse why he can take on higher end stuff in setting while struggling with the weaker ones at the same time. And sorry it took me a while to respond, the puppy needed to go outside and wouldn't take, wait five more minutes as an answer. lol.
