We can't just dip an arrow in a fire and shoot it to call it fire arrows, but it isn't to say that fire arrows are impossible, didn't happen, or impractical. What happened instead was that we had to elongate the arrow itself so that it would not harm the bow or burn the archer, and then we tied a rag to the end of it, which we then dipped in pitch.
