Questionable Questing

How aware of this is Naruto? How much is normalized and framed as noble in his mind?

Another really cool scene from Naruto I really like is when team eight is first formed and their going on their first mission, and Naruto asks are they going to save a princess and Kakashi just laughs and tells them their going to be doing some gardening for an elderly lady.

I actually really love the idea of d rank missions just being random chores or physical labor around the village. Its a way for genin and chunin to make a quick buck without having to put their life's in danger or kill anyone, and it's also a great way to build your reputation with the civilian side. Hard to hate the magic untouchable ninja's when one of them picked your weeds out of your garden last week.

What I find interesting about this is its the villiage treating them as children. Their softballing the hardcore evil shit ninjas do and keeping them in the illusion of domestic peace. Furthermore, these missions are for assisting village civilians. It keeps Shinobi connected to the community and might be an effort to integrate ninja vets naturally with non combat life

But for this version of Naruto while he will have a very romantic view of Ninja's and still think they slay bad guys and rescue princesses, especially since Tsuande will tell him a bunch of cool stories of her uncles and grandparents, seeing how hard the loss of Dan and her brother hit her will really dampen his expectations and kind of give Naruto an idea of how rough Ninja's actually are.

It'll be a bucket of cool water on his childish dreams, but it really won't be until the wave arc that it really sinks in how dangerous and cruel this life actually is. I'm think Naruto will actually have a character arc where he realize he's happy with Tsuande and would happily give up a ninja life to be with her, only to realize he can't do that because of him holding the nine tail fox.

Ninja culture purpously works to place their warrior class in community service to increase loyalty and bond the ninja to the concerns and identity of the village as a whole. Does Naruto ever talk about poverty in the villages? With the merc money and how insular these miitary city states are, how much of a welfare state do they have?

He's going to get his dream only to realize that dream could destroy his hopes and happiness

I'm thinking Ninja cities have a huge rent problem. Think about it, their probably one of the safest places to be nine times out of ten in the death world that is naruto, a huge chunk of trade and finance flows through these cities since Ninja's are so integrated into guarding merchant shipments and diplomacy,
Andy333
Andy333
And their a center of education since all Ninja cities give out free education as a means to help recruit promising civilians. So you combine these three things and these Ninja cites sound a lot like California or New York, in the being the center of all these movers and shakers the expense to live their is stupidly high.

Why is naruto a death world? What other weird shit do I not know about
Andy333
Andy333
So if your a well to do family, even you might struggle in the village because of how much more expensive everything is. Plus all these cities have defensive walls and agreements with various clans giving the ownership over a decent chunk of the available real estate for their compounds, which both limit how much building space is available even more.

What I think might happen is you get a difference between normal civs and ninja bloodline or adopted by ninja family civs. People who have a direct connection to the Shinobi are inner citizens while others not so connected to the ninja society are not as supported.

And in between all this are the Samurai overlords with their blade and armor arts who run the countries? What are Dayimo in this
Andy333
Andy333
Naruto's a bit of a death world in my mind because you have a bunch of traumatized super soldiers running around and not enough jobs to support everyone. its why competition between villages is so fierce and it was why in Canon the Sand village attacked the leaf. During periods of peace, there's not enough demand for assassinations and other ninja stuff.
Andy333
Andy333
And you tell me, what happens to super soldiers that can't integrate into normal society when they can't find work? They make work and its probably why so many ninja's end up going rouge or becoming bandits.

I'm hearing ninjas sabotage geo politics to make money or engage in wars of conquest as needed but how do the Samurai fit into this?
Andy333
Andy333
That would be a pretty cool concept. i don't seen why not though. Inuzuka Ninja dogs were far from normal. And all the summons had to have come from somewhere, right?

Summons never made sense to me. They were weird, like whatever the fuck the Reaper Death seal demon god was. Wtf was that thing
