Well I keep joking they all have daddy issues, but in all seriousness all of them come from broken and abandoned homes. I don't have any experience with online dating so I have zero advice there. But I've had friends who've had really good luck with them and others who hate them, so good luck. Hopefully it works for you. But a surrealist design? That sounds interesting. What kind of surrealist? Something like David Linch or the Coen Brothers? or more Kubrick?
