I guess it's a matter of how "divinity" is more defined in that setting and it's a vague concept that keeps getting retconned in WoW. It's like the further back you go, the more things make sense, because the further back you go, the more it's like DnD. For example, around WC3 era, before you had 'Elves and Tentacle People in Space', you couldn't, as a mortal do shit to even demigods

I feel like WoW just didn't copy DnD enough, you know, like a lot of people talk about how it copied a lot of stuff too much, but if WoW copied DnD more, then you could have drama about gods killing gods, gods being killed, mortals stealing godhood... I'm just saying, you know, back then, DnD had a lot of good stuff... copying only Temple of Elemental Evil just enough good enough
