This is a serious question and I think it needs answering.

I have brought entire chats to their knees with this question.
Traps are not gay unless they are, or they lust after traps.

Not serious answer: Only sometimes gay, but always fabulous~

Serious short answer: It doesn't matter, and/or it's a bad question.

Serious long answer: People are attracted to who/what they're attracted to, and if you try to put a finite set of labels on everything you're going to end up contradicting yourself. There are people attracted to every single combination and subset of penis/vagina, boobs/flat, masculine personality/feminine personality, masculine clothes/feminine clothes, XX/XY, and even more that I haven't even mentioned.
Better to stop trying to classify everything and instead just go with the flow.

Most traps are neither happy nor unhappy, as they are typically non-sentient even in the case that they are physical objects rather than arrangements of circumstances.

As a completely off-topic tangent, I will answer two totally-unrelated questions, a) "are effeminate men homosexual" and b) "does attraction to effeminate men signify homosexuality in the attractee".

a) Some of them are. Some of them are not. This is also true of other men. Unsurprisingly, physical appearance is not perfectly correlated with sexual preference.
b) Obviously, this depends on the sex of the attractee. A female attractee is clearly not exclusively homosexual. A male attractee is clearly not exclusively heterosexual.

As an aside to this off-topic tangent, I would like to make several further comments.

1. It is my firm belief that homosexual attraction and activity are not shameful or morally wrong. As such, I find attempts to make "exceptions" to and "excuses" for it vaguely bemusing.

2. The vast majority of people in RL, under a definition of sexuality based on attraction, are bisexual. This is because human sexual attraction is based on many factors, and primary sexual characteristics, even when visible, are only one such factor. Thus, while a given person's sexual attraction to a large randomly-chosen selection of RL people is likely to correlate with sex (both directly, and because sex has a correlation with many other factors that affect attraction), it is highly unlikely that they will find all members of one sex more attractive than any members of the other, or find all members of either sex unattractive.

3. In RL, a definition of sexuality based on attraction may not be entirely useful. The sexual activities one can perform with a given partner differ significantly based on the sex of that partner, and many people have strong preferences about which sexual activities they prefer. Thus, while the list of "people one is sexually attracted to" nearly always includes both sexes, the list of "people one is interested in sexual activity with" may in fact be exclusively populated by one sex (e.g. if the only sex act one enjoys is penetrating a partner's vagina, men are not suitable partners, and if the only sex acts one enjoys involve being penetrated by a penis, women are not suitable partners). Furthermore, intertwined with sexuality is the issue of relationships. Some people desire a relationship partner with whom they can procreate, which rather tends to discriminate by sex even in the case that one is attracted to and interested in sexual activity with both sexes relatively-equally.

4. Of course, it is not possible for RL people to conduct sexual activities with—or procreate with—fictional characters, as by definition the latter do not physically exist. As such, in the context of fictional characters, attraction is basically the only applicable definition of sexuality.

As BookishWyrm notes - the answer to this question is 'depends on the trap and what sort of person they are attracted to.'

The more common question is 'does liking traps make you gay?'

To which my answer is no. Liking or disliking traps does not inherently signal gay/straightness.

It depends what about the trap attracts you. Is it the fact that they are very feminine? Then no, it's not gay. You are attracted to the femininity, and the penis is something you're willing to overlook or accept because of the rest of the package says 'lady.' At most it indicates a certain flex in your preferences. If it's just the presence of the penis that does it for you, and the other bits don't matter so much, then yeah, you're probably at least bi if not gay.

But what if its the very combination of the penis and the feminine body that does it for you?

I heard this before. Where did it came from?

I only really like them if they're feminine, and sound cute, which leans far closer to "cute girl" than something I'd label as fully "likes boys".
I only like cute guys myself. Cute guys make up a non-trivial proportion of men; saying that it isn't bi because they're effeminate is about as silly as saying that a bisexual male is exclusively-gay because the only girls he likes are flat-chested.

Bisexuality does not imply a lack of body-type preferences, it merely means that genitalia aren't the be-all and end-all. There's also nothing wrong with it.
I heard this before. Where did it came from?
...Good question. I looked up the Kinsey Reports in response and found that it isn't quite that high. Kinsey found that 37% of men and 13% of women had had homosexual experience, and 50% of men and 28% of women had at least some attraction to their own sex (the proportions of exclusive homosexuals were about 4% and 1%, if I read correctly). It's noted in said reports that this is probably an underrepresentation (this was around 1950, when homosexuality was still illegal and strongly stigmatised), but "vast" majority does seem unsupported, so I'll retract that.

Traps are not gay.

They are homosexual.

Get them loins lubed, and head for the pooper?

But seriously, it only counts if you're fucking IRL.

People that have sex with hugging pillows of their trap-waifus aren't gay, they're lonely :V

Think about the weaboos, and support Krow's Online Charity for the Known Scrubs (KOCKS).

It depends on if you put bisexuality under the umbrella of being gay or not.

The entire premise of a trap, is to pass as the opposite sex, you can't be gay and like a trap because they are meant to trick straight people into assuming their women. Yes there are plenty of gay men who like feminine men, but their is still a difference between a feminine man and one that passes.

In which case I'd argue that if you are tricked by a trap, but are still interested then you would have to be bisexual at he very least, because this person who looks like a woman, but has male genitalia, isn't a turn off for you.

This is just my opinion though, I'm no expert.

Traps aren't Gay!
In fact, Traps are antigay, that means the more Trap sex you have the straighter you are!

Anime traps are attractive because they can be drawn in ways that allow them to be shown as very feminine looking.

RL traps aren't quite as effective in my opinion.

Some people have already given well written in depth answers, but I figure I'll give my piece.

First off, the question is really two questions in one, are the traps themselves gay, and does being attracted to traps mean that I'm gay?

In answer to the first, no, crossdressing and/or being feminine doesn't make someone gay. Most traps in hentai that I've read to tend to be gay, but it is hentai, where a good dicking, so to speak, is some sort of magical ritual that forever warps the mind of the one on the receiving and it's a bit hard to tell if they're homosexual or if they're being mind controlled.
In answer to the second, probably? I think that sexual interest is a lot more fluid than people treat it as being. Saying "I only like men if they're dressed up pretty and are naturally really feminine/cute" sounds to me like you're saying you're bisexual, with very specific taste in men, but hide that fact by using a term from the wierd porn of Japan, which as we all know is the most sexually open and progrssive nation on the planet Earth
I have no idea how true the idea (as mentioned above) that most people are bisexual is, but it's always sounded plausible to me, you aren't (or at least I'm not) attracted to someone because they're a specific gender/biological sex, you're attracted to them because they have traits you find appealing, and those traits are not necessarily restricted to a specific gender/biological sex.

Also, while I don't want to veer into politics, I do think the fact that many people consider the use of the word trap as a descriptor for "men pretending to not be men" is an insult should be mentioned, and the reasoning why should be explained.
I've never talked to anyone who crossdresses about the usage of the term trap, but as someone who has often kind of fancied (in the sense of, I would like to be an independently wealthy billionaire or I would like to be a fucking wizard) the idea of prettying myself up and walking around in a dress, I would be insulted if someone implied I was lying or trying to trick people. I'd be trying to make myself pretty, and if they felt weird being attracted to a dude in a dress* that would not be anything they have any right to get upset with me over, but rather something they have to sort out themself.
In terms of trans people, I have had a few conversations of varying length and detail on the matter, and the general consensus, which I would hope would be obvious, is that the idea that "a man is a man even if he pretends otherwise"(as a poster stated earlier on this page) is kind of a hot topic for them.

*In a purely hypothetical alternate reality where I buy a dress and learn how to use makeup, but I'm also pretty and petite, because I cannot see anyone with half a working mistaking me for the opposite sex on this Earth. I am a tall skeleton who wears human skin.

If y'all are willing to wait for a couple days, I might be able to find that one picture which proves that traps aren't gay but extra straight.

Well it depends really. The more you know about the Trap, the more gay it becomes I suppose.

To me there are stages of the Trap where it determines how gay you are.

If you don't know the Trap is a crossdressing boy and you are sexually or physically attracted to the female looking figure that is presented to you, then you aren't gay.

If it is revealed that the Trap is a dude is when things get complicated.

If you are pushed away by the fact that the Trap is a dude, but you are still attracted to the female image that he gives off. You aren't gay.

If you don't mind the male, but are more attracted to the female image that was presented then you are slightly gay and most probably Bisexual.

If you go 'The Dick Makes it Better' then you are fully Gay, with your sexual preference being guys with effeminate builds.

So there are layers of the Trap that determines how Gay you can become.

For me, a core question for me related to this is "how much can you tell?".

For instance, we could look at one extreme with the trope of a guy getting fooled by a convincing (or comically unconvincing) male crossdresser. I would say that guy was not gay as he thought he was flirting with a girl. The crossdresser may or not be gay, depending on if he was actually attracted to the first guy. Who knows, the crossdresser might just have thought it was funny or novel.

The word "trap" to me suggests a certain level of convincingness, to the point your unreliable meat computer of a brain automatically and unconsciously files him under the "attractive female" category. The brain evolved to pick up on and like/dislike certain things that can get fooled pretty easily. This is why a straight guy might perk up if he sees a certain curvature that just looks like the silhouette the female hips. If you are a straight guy and your eyes get draw to certain aspects before realizing "ZOMG there's a dick!!!111420", then fear not as you are probably not gay...maybe.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. I would think traps are attractive regardless of whether they were gay or not, so I have no skin in the game. It is just something that I noticed when looking at drawing tutorials.

Cute female curves, right? That is what our eyes are drawn to. Now, adding a dick would probably confuse our brains on an unconscious level. Your brain might stop and goes haywire with "Wait, but that's a nice butt! I already filed it under female. Why is there a dick?"
