Does the discussion of Bioethics fall under Rule 8?

Since no one has stepped up, I'll set the record straight.

I assume by 'Bioethics,' you mean something akin to eugenics or any flavor of race theory.

You can have characters champion their positions on bioethics and other political-ideological positions. You could even write a story about bioethics itself.

Anything goes so long as it stays within the story.

As far as forum discussions go, you can talk about the history of bioethics and express your opinion on it.

What you can't do is use your position on bioethics to be a dick to others or advocate political policies.

If you meant something else by 'Bioethics,' then you should've clarified what you meant, which is probably why no one had responded to you until now.

I request this thread to be deleted. I'm afraid of being Infracted.

The usual euphemism for that is "human biodiversity", abbreviated HBD. There are a couple of others, and euphemisms aren't always used, but "bioethics" is emphatically not used in this fashion (I did a quick search on a board that leans that way and got zero uses of it in such a fashion).

The reason I didn't respond is that as a normal user I can't speak for the site. I assume this applies to most normal users (though not to the mods/admins).

Given that a Google would have told you what "bioethics" actually means, I think your blaming @Daytripper for not pre-emptively disabusing you of your misconception was inappropriate, even though he was pretty vague.

So, after a brief look at that wikipedia article (since I, like many others, did not know what bioethics referred to), I think it's a tricky question to answer.

Bioethics seems to be a very broad field, with many subfields within it. It's got medical ethics of how treatments work and how we should apply them, some animal testing stuff, but also how those ethics apply to and shape societies - and politics. Thus, it's difficult to make a sweeping, generalised ruling; much of bioethics isn't anywhere near rule 8, but potentially some of the things that fall under the heading of bioethics would be a violation.

I suspect you can't get a blanket yes/no answer on this. I'm pretty certain that discussions about medical ethics, informed consent, do no harm, etc, shouldn't fall under rule 8. With the more socialogical side of things... you probably have to use your best judgement (which is kinda the case for all rule 8 things anyway) as to whether they'd be political. Discussion of morality of abortion, for example, has been heavily politicised in America - which means it probably falls foul of rule 8, even if it's an interesting bioethics question.

Hopefully that's helpful. Please ignore if an actual mod says otherwise.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Bioethics, at least according to the first line in the second paragraph of the 'purpose and scope' touch on a number of topics in fiction [cloning, gene therapy, human gene therapy for example.]

Like others said above me, it depends on how you approach the topic.

If it's part of a story and a character's struggle, it sounds fine.

If you're ranting about how abortion should or should not be legal well.....

I'll admit I made an assumption there.

I didn't know what applications for 'discussing Bioethics' he had in mind because he didn't provide enough information.

I'd seen some users asking for clarification of the rules cite specific examples, including ones involving politics, so I thought what he was getting at had a political aspect, too.

Also, I saw that no one had responded to him yet, and I wanted to give him some advice on why that may be.

When asking for clarification, it's prudent to be clear yourself.

If I sounded harsh, then that was not my intention.

I was applying it to fictional people. Is that fine? Right? I don't want to get banned.

I don't think you're in danger of getting banned. Shockingly, it's actually quite hard to get banned on QQ unless you're a giant flaming asshole. Mostly, even if you step wrong, you'll get poked and told not to do it again.

Only if you make it fall under Rule 8.

Just avoid bringing up current real life events, current real life public figures, or current real life arguments, and you should be fine.

Rule 8 was implemented so people would stop bringing their shitty real-life arguments onto a forum that's ostensibly for porn. As long as you're not bringing a shitty real-life argument into your story so you can soapbox, you're probably going to be okay.

Worst comes to worst, ask one of the mods to vet your content if you're afraid it'll break rule 8. You're not going to be infracted for asking shit in a PM unless you're being a complete flaming asshole.
