I wouldn't mind there not being a trade language. I can put the extra bp into Melee 5.

Like, really, if we wanted things to make complete sense, our characters would all speak their own languages and Seatongue would be the Trade Language of the West- but that's a bit more granularity than most people want to think about.

(Also, speaking personally if I were to implement that in a game, not speaking Seatongue would be a Flaw rather than the ability to speak Seatongue being a Merit in any case)

Eh, maybe Sidereal bullshit was what caused Riverspeak to be a Creation-wide language? Because when in doubt, blame the Sidereals XD

and I definitely would still have to spend 2 bp to grab Guild Cant (how are you supposed to learn this without being a member again?) and Low Realm. Thinking to grab Local Tongue, but then again, I probably could BS check a rubbish language to pass as one. :V

Shouldn't everyone have Seatongue at least? As that's what the majority in the West talks.

Emerald Blossom speaks Seatongue and Old Realm. The first one is her native language and the other she's learned from spirits.

Yeah, my guy has Riverspeak (common language), High Realm (noble language) and Seatongue (he ran there, he better be able to talk their language)

    This is really helpful actually.

I am changing my merits to include this. I am choosing Seatongue as my native, Old Realm from bargaining with spirits and Riverspeak to deal with merchants if Weeping is sticking to it being the trade language.

The Bronze Faction would have reason to, again, make a Realm language the 'trade language', not Rivertongue, and they've dominated Sidereal politics since the Usurpation.

Basically, I won't complain if theweepingman makes Rivertongue a trade language, but I think it's rather silly (and also, I don't think it's true in 3e, although I'd have to check the book to be sure).

Rivertongue is trade language on Thousand Rivers and its border. So if you often visit An-Teng, you'll likely know Rivertongue.

Everything else use their own local language. West is more isolated, so their trade language is, well, Seatongue.

Hm. Does that mean I should switch to Wu Jian's language as Lily's native language and put the Language dot into Seatongue?

Seatongue is native tongue of Western Direction, excepting barbarian tribes.

Admittedly, if you are on Caul/Wu Jian you can claim Low Realm as your native tongue.

Ah. Well, I switched the Language dot to Low Realm, then, and took my bp from Dodge instead.

Also, Guild Cant is not exclusive in this setting (since distance is a thing, ahahaha). Guild Cant is instead trade technical language, much like other specialist has their own term that can be different from common parlance. They are typically mixed with local trade language, so you can divine the intent if you know the local language.

    Hmmm.....interesting.

Alright, suppose I want to be a trader, what languages would I need to learn to reliably do so? Seatongue is a must but what else would I need if any?

It depend on your route. If you are exclusively on West, Seatongue is enough. If you deal with Realm often, Low/High Realm is good, depend on what kind of good and how you sell it - smuggling/black market for Low Realm, more upscale market is High Realm. If you deal with Guild often, usually around An-Teng, then Rivertongue is good. If you often meet with barbarian, barbarian dialect is of course good. Etcetera.

Suppose I want to convince the Governor or whatever analog that they need to commission a Statue made by me to be placed in the center of the city. Or along those lines. High class works of art, Alchemical potions, talismans that also double as works of arts and other ornaments, High Quality weapons and armors, as I gain more exp. What language would be best? We are starting around Coral right? I can buy a few languages later but I want to ensure that the starting few are good enough to last me till I buy out my crafts.

Also reworked my story a bit more. I figure that it was too much of a coup out that I flat out declare that happened to my char's wife so I left it up to you theweepingman. She could be actually cursed or just be a Sidereal or anything else you can think of. Even dead, so long as you can make it interesting. I removed her from the mentor list to reflect this and it will be a major goal for my char to find out what happened to her.

I changed my merits around and took an ally, a Lunar basically, so I still need to help her hunt down a Tyrant Lizard. But now it is for plot reasons as if I help her do so she will help my char find out what happened to his wife and lead him to her Elder Mentor who "might" be able to help him and can't do so till her hunt is over.

I hope this isn't too against the general campaign you have made?

Yzarc, must the Tyrant Lizard be killed, from start to finish, by the Lunar, or must she deal it the final blow?

Finishing blow if she can. Technically she has to kill it "on her own" but can use whatever means necessary. Popular methods for the more Social Lunars include, tricking others into fighting the thing and finishing off the survivors if they were enemies.

Here, she is "using" a bunch of Solars to do the work for her. All that really matters is results, i.e if she gets the form or not. Other approaches are both accepted and welcomed within reason.

Language isn't as important as social pool in this case.

Hnn, maybe I really should have gone for a Dawn or Zenith, as I'm more interested in battle mage than support-spellsword. Ah well, changing it when I'm not as tired.

I haven't decided whether to give you initial reason or let you came up yourself. Hmm. To patron or in to patron?

For now, find some reason why you are in Corral.

Alright. Also one of my charms that I am taking, requires me to make a roll to get silver and gold ex. Is there any site you prefer to handle the rolls?

I could open a chat room in https://rolz.org/ so all the rolls made can be viewed at any time.

Individually or as a group? My character goes where the job takes her, and her employer's motivation for hiring a mercenary for the voyage really depends on which specific island we start on. She could have been hired by a PC, but the only one that can afford her rates is Bii's character, who seems unlikely to feel that she'd need the help. Or maybe one or more of the more social characters convinced her that there would be some really sweet loot to be had sailing with them.
