General chat thread

Maybe. That was all a remembered of it other than it wasn't any good and I didn't want to look it up.
Oh, I wouldn't have actual first hand knowledge of that fic, anyway. I was just throwing out what sounded like a fitting title for such a crossover fan work. Other possibilities include...

Dusting Drugs
Semblance of Meth
Blue Sky Aura
Rose on Speed
I Was Reincarnated In Another World With Supernatural Powers And Decided To Be A Drug Lord

...and so on.

Is anyone else having trouble with the FF.net app....

For some reason it wont load anything except the home page....

Huh. Apparently, the Sumerians knew the layout of the solar system. Except they had an extra planet in there, Nibiru, that they claimed their gods, the Annunaki, originated from.

Considering they were charting the solar system without a telescope or any established science of astronomy, throwing in an extra planet ain't too bad a job.

A lot of that is some combination of luck and selection effects, but as I've always said, the "ancients" weren't stupid, contrary to popular modern belief. (And in some senses, e.g. Mnemonics, they were actually more advanced than we currently are)

I dunno, an 'extra planet' that their 'gods' came from is more fuel for the theory that aliens were poking around :p

If you've ever spotted the ISS in the sky, it looks just like a star- and depending on the distance/size, mistaking a ship for a planet isn't that crazy.

Despite my disdain for any Ancient Alien shit, there's really no way to know what they were looking at, so... <shrug>

Honestly I find the idea of being alone in the universe more terrifying than the idea of ancient aliens visiting us and fucking around a bit before leaving.

Hard disagree. NOT being alone is far, FAR more terrifying, especially with the silence that inspired the thought experiment that is the Fermi Paradox.
Because given the size of the Universe it is dead certain there is life in our celestial neighborhood, but us only seeing silence is a giveaway that something is very, VERY wrong and screaming our radio waves out into the cosmos may have already killed all of us.

Nah, Fermi Paradox is based on the idea that Earth-like (or life-compatible) planets have always been possible in stellar system formation.

Earth is a statistical outlier in a bunch of ways:
- Lots of phosphorus
- Lots of water for planet in habitable zone
- Big magnetic field for a rocky planet
- Large moon
- Relatively few meteor impacts (thanks Jupiter)

We don't know how many planets there could be with similar phosphorus + water + magnetic field + etc. -- we're just getting a handle on numbers for "rocky exo-planets in habitable zone" and probing ways to find "rocky with water in habitable zone" -- and Fermi Paradox was formulated before we knew how uncommon phosphorus was in early planetary systems, which (in the paradox) should have tended to generate life that should have expanded towards us by now, except life might require elements which hadn't been produced in stellar fusion / spread by super-novas / re-cycled into new planetary systems yet.

So it's plausible that we're alone without needing Space Cthulhu Murder Squad to justify it.

But a whole galaxy to populate ourselves?

A whole universe of stars to use as energy for our shitposts?

That's a heavy responsibility.

Just wondering whether this site should consider banning Alternate History threads? That genre is a magnet for R8 shenanigans.

A liter of vodka, 8 liters of beer, 2.5 kilos of herring preserved in oil, two roasted chicken thighs already consumed and, of course, a diet coke.

Preparations complete, I hereby declare this weekend as officially started.

Presumably you aren't having all of that in one sitting.
Enjoy your weekend!
Of course not, I'll be consuming all of that trash over the next week. The alcohol will certainly last me for a while, and I just enjoy fish a lot; the herrings will last me a long time as well.

I just kinda want to have a secure supply of food and booze in my larder, so I tend to buy in bulk on the weekends. The feeling that I have enough stuff in the fridge to get me satiated and shitfaced at the same time for the next week gives me this kind of comfy, secure feeling.

Sorry about the doublepost, but I just felt like sharing this little story since I'm thinking about it now.

So, around a decade or two ago, when I was still a fresh faced student in Warsaw University (Warsaw being the capital of Poland if you don't know nor care about European geography), one day I was walking towards the bus station a few kilometers away from my dorm, dragging my suitcase on wheels with my stuff behind me. I pulled my wallet out of my pocket, checking the coins once again, seeing if I had enough to buy a ticket and get back home to my family for the weekend. I did, but somehow I had failed to put my wallet back into my pocket again, and apparently had dropped it on the road without me even noticing.

Well, I noticed it a few minutes later when some truck driver later caught up to me, stopped in the middle of the road and gave my my missing wallet that I didn't even know I was missing at the time. This madlad had, apparently, noticed some random pedestrian (me in this case) dropping their wallet on the pavement, stopped his vehicle to pick it up, and then made an effort to track me down and went out of his way just to give it back. On the busy streets of the capital city.

It was a small act of kindness, but it sticks with me to this day.

Yo, does anyone here have a server or link to a server for prominence 2 Minecraft? Me and my friends are trying to play this moded Minecraft but kinda stuck finding a good free server that isn't lagging.

My aunt got a job at an amazon warehouse and I'm laughing at her trying to claim the reason for turnover is because the workers are lazy.
Don't take this personal, but I do look forward to the future post of you describing how she's all broken over getting fired for bullshit reasons.

They are lazy. By Amazon standards. So they need to be able to carry cattle with one arm, shoot a bow accurately, cut off one breast, and look down on men as breeding stock.

...or wait, did you mean the company?

Hey, so, I was wondering...
I have a story(my own) that I want to write/post here, yet I do not know if it would be considered sfw or not.

The story is about some of the various characters in my OG superhero universe and their lives-several of which end in tragedy.

I was wondering - considering I intend to dive into the mental/emotional\physical torment the various characters go through during the events of their stories, would it be classified as either SFW or NSFW?

(Couldn't find a thread for this, sooo I figured I'd try here. And to preempt the question of 'Will there be seggs?', not in what I intend- though my track record there sucks- to post, no.)

It's always safe to put your work in NSFW.

This is ironic, but it's true.

Huh. Found an interesting conspiracy theory. Apparently, America may have initially been discovered by the Britains back in the sixth century by Prince Madoc, brother of King Arthur. (Not that King Arthur. Probably.) Apparently, a comet or something passed over, or perhaps crashed into, the islands of Britain and Ireland in 562 AD, causing widespread devastation and rendering the area uninhabitable. Madoc fled his ruined country by sailing west, and apparently found what was probably North America. Eventually he went back and told people about it.

Except the crown covered it up. The reason: they thought the falling rocks that devastated the country were them being punished by God, and didn't want the peasantry to know about it. So while they knew it had happened, they didn't pass it down in their history. Or at least not the history that was told to the peasants.

Thus, the role of Columbus: to "discover" North America so that they could begin plundering it without anyone asking how they knew it was there.

Pretty sure this isn't it. If I remember right, the English told Columbus he was crazy, and some others. Spain was the one that finally funded his first expedition.

I believe it wasn't that the British told Columbus he was crazy so much as they refused to fund the expedition. Either way, part of the conspiracy theory is that the official story about Columbus is a lie.
