General Fic Discussion & Idea Thread

OK, I didn't see a BattleTech Ideas thread, so I'm putting this here (if there's enough interest, I'll create either a BT Ideas thread, or a thread for this specific idea):

Conrad Toyama is killed during the Fall of the Star League, leading to Jerome Blake's successor being someone with a vision closer to that of Blake himself. The religious trappings and mystic rituals associated with canon ComStar do not occur (and indeed, the name of the organization will not be ComStar, as that was also Toyama's idea), though the 'secret society' aspect remains. Likewise, there will be no Operation Divine Intervention, Operation Holy Shroud, or similar attacks on the recovery of the Successor States and Periphery Powers.

I think it quite likely that this change will result in a very different Inner Spere and Periphery, by the time the Wolf Dragoons arrive in 3005.

I suggest that they discover that the Periphery Powers are, on average, about as advanced as the Clans (ahead in some areas, behind in others, and varying from state to state, like the Outworlds Alliance having better WarShips and ASFs, along with new ideas called 'Pocket WarShips' and 'Monitors', or the Magistracy of Canopus effectively creating genecaste), while the Successor States are ahead of the Clans by a significant margin. Worse (from a Clanner's PoV), they're advancing faster than the Clans are. Even in communications, they're well ahead, with a Terra-based company called CommNet operating a service similar to the Diamond Sharks' ChatterWeb, but faster and higher capacity... though it seems to contain a hell of a lot of pornography (some of it involving those Canopian genecaste), and cute animal pictures and videos. Strategically, any attack by the Clans on the Inner Sphere will be a humiliating defeat for the Clan forces, and some of the Periphery Powers would themselves be a serious threat, particularly the expanding Outworlds Alliance.

The Dragoons' relatively outdated tech means that if not for their size and discipline, they would be a second-rate merc unit in the Periphery, or a third-rate unit in the Inner Sphere. They could go back to their supply cache for the more advance equipment that they left there, but that would only help a little, particularly as they'd still have to leave the WarShips, which are illegal for private ownership. I imagine that they do a lot of pirate hunting, garrison work on less important worlds, and so forth, while buying up as many different examples of NewTech as possible (focusing on military tech, obviously), and then leave in 3009 to make their report to the Grand Council (or maybe only a few volunteers leave, due to the possibility of 'kill the bringer of bad news' syndrome).

They aren't going to be happy about this, but are also unlikely to fully believe or comprehend it, quiaff?

So, thoughts?

First thought: is CommNet likely to be doing exploration? Or just handwave the coincidence of someone else having landed in the hornet's nest at the same time as canon, for the sake of simplicity. You'd still be looking at the Clans having different information when they decided to send the Dragoons - more biased towards the originating power in scope and tone, at least worrying hints about the tech level...

Just had an insane idea... Familiar of Zero... Louse gets... well...

Re read the elfhome saga as the new book just came out... Been thinking about trying to write an oc or si in that universe. Wen Spencer did a good job world building and it could be a pretty neat universe to play around in. Considering that the main story line is pretty much a romance that drowns out the political military social and other implications there is a lot of room to tell stories.
The way I was thinking to open was an unnamed dragon moving to limit those who can see the future by intentionally moving a soul. First half of the story would be the main character adjusting to a radical shift in his life with only hints of magic. Moving to Pittsburg and trying to get his life together when everything he thinks he knows has been changed. Adjusting to having two sets of memory and two sets of skill. Occasional flashes of magic, or at least the implications that there is more going on he can't see. Plus his own search for answers as to what happened to him. Should be an interesting pyscological study...
Second part would be after the first startup and rebuilding his life ad the world has gone crazy on him yet again. Trying to adjust to a new world and radically different circumstances. Unsure if I should include a species shift as well, or leave him human. I've been leaning towards a species shift as an excuse to keep him in Pittsburg and to explore how his mind changes. As well as it being a ready made explanation for the differences between his two lives. I kinda also want to explore how the non humans filtered into Pittsburg and their hidden culture. It was something that was glossed over in the books for the sake of keeping the narrative pretty black and white while excusing the good elves their genocidal urges.
I might end up with some romance. But I would want the focus to be on the mc and his physiology as well as the world. Playing to my strengths in worldbuilding rather then trying for a character driven story. Comments or thoughts?

Who here has read either Darths and Droids or GM of the Ring?

Basically it's a fic where Berserk is a tabletop RPG. It's played by a bunch of friends. Griffith's player is playing the game as if it's Game of Thrones, Casca/Kasca/Caska's player is playing it like it's Lord of The Rings, and Guts' player is this super philosophical guy who decided to play a brutal warrior(hence the giant sword). The GM is going his own route.

New Idea.

Legend of Dragons and Beasts (Legend of Dragoon/Naruto)

11,000 years ago. Humanity was enslaved by a race called Winglies. With their magical and aerial superiority they ruled over the world. However, a great wind blew the cinders of unrest into a mighty inferno of rebellion. This wind was Emperor Diaz, who gather together a force to challenge the rulers of the world. Seven Dragoons imbued with the power of the seven great elements. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Light and Darkness. That was not all he had, for at his side was the mysterious Sage of Six Paths. A powerful mage who was said to be either an equal of Faust or his better. The Sage was the Emperor's closest friend. Together with the Dragoons, they lead the Dragon Campaign to victory. Peace reigned as Emperor Diaz took over from the defeated Winglies. However, this peace would not last. Diaz sought to ensure the supremacy of Humanity and would ultimately turn against the other races. The Sage defeated his once-best friend and saw all the carnage wrought. He with great sorrow created the Western Kingdoms and gave the Moon Objects. Then created the Elemental Kingdoms to the East and the Death Frontier. With the Dragoons, he disappeared from the world and hoped that events of his time do not haunt the future.

Current time, two unlikely figures meet. Dart, the one who would become the Fire Dragoon, and Naruto, the host of the Ninth Beast. Together they unwind the shroud of the past and break the chains of fate. As the Legacies of the Dragon Campaign begin to dance once more.

Naruto met Dart while he was on training while the other was searching for the dread Black Monster. Begins while both of them are heading to Seles while Jiraiya went back to Konoha to give a in-person report. Thus Naruto is dragged along with the dragoons while the effects of what is happening in the Elemental Nations hit the West.

Okay, that's got some great amusement potential. Especially as things start to go downhill for Griffith.
Or is the Eclipse the GM trying to do "Rocks Fall Everyone Dies" but Griffith's player manages to find a way to ascend?

Hmm, gonna have to think about that.

Hmm, gonna have to think about that.

It also depends on how you have the GM.
Is the GM like in "GM Of the Rings" and railroads and punished players for insolence?
Or more like Darths and Droids and tries to accommodate the player's insanity?

Maybe the GM intended for the Eclipse to be a scary end of campaign event?
But one that was survivable... except for some botches and crit fails.

Fair bit of potential.

True. It would make sense for the Eclipse to be a scary end of campaign event. Everything afterwards is a second campaign where everyone comes back(except Casca's player who can't come for various reasons).

Unless said player switches to Puck.
Or someone new decides to play him.

Kancolle/40k crossover. What do you guys think?

If Shipgirls in 40k for Imperium came to be, how do you guys think they would be looked at or perceived? By the lay people, Commissar Cain, Imperial navy and Ecclesiarchy?

I like the Inquisition but I would love for a scene where an Inquisitor or even several Inquisitors question a shipgirl about her loyalty and she just explodes. How dare they doubt her?! She fought during the years of the Great Crusade! She helped build the Imperium! She fought and savaged/destroyed countless heretics and traitors during the Battle of Terra. She has fought for the Imperium and suffered for 10,00k years long before any of these insolent brats were even conceived!!

I can see the Mechanicus priests even thinking of doing crazy kamikaze moves where they deliberately go into insane combats with their capital ships so as to die with glory and thus become one with the Shipgirls machine spirit who then comes back to the material plane.

Chaos can have abyssals if you want them too or instead of Abyssals. They can have daemon possessed ships. The 40k rpg books by FFG have an example of this.

I can see shipgirls, maybe even Space marine shipgirls supporting ground engagements or even winning whole ground engagements themselves. A small shipgirl fleet sent against the ever expanding Tau should be enough to stop the Tau and regain lost ground.

Don't forget the Mechanis. As silly as it is, I think they would have the most favorable view of Shipgirls.
Machine Spirits are a thing in W40K.
So them as the embodiment/avatar of the spirit of the ships could be acceptable to them.

Also while Artificial Intelligence is not allowed, using organic brains to run ship/vehicle/weapons systems is A-okay.

So as you said it depends on how the Inquisitor decides to go with it. Also if they're a Radical or a Puritan.
Or... maybe how strongly they're affiliated with the Tech-Preists of Mars.
(The Inquisition does work with the Martians, they're not keen on them given the Maritans have their own faith.
(However if they're Ordo Xenos then they'd probably work with the Martians if only for research and how to secure and recover tech)

The Inquisition doesn't trust the martians for loads of reasons. Not just cause they have their own faith, though it is a part of the reason. In fact the Ecclesiarchy does not like the martians either purely cause of the martian's faith and the Ecclesiarchy likely spreads this dislike into the general population, some of who becomes Inquisitors.

The distrust for the Mechanicus is not misplaced. The Mechanicus planned to abandon Terra and the Sol system to its faith during the Wars of the Beast. Lets not forget about the Martian civil war during the HH era.

Agreeded.

It's WH40k. It's not like one of the groups of the Imperium of Man will be /good/ or not have ample reason to be paranoid.

Still, I think the concept of Shipgirls would be something the Mechanicus would have... views on.

If the Mechanius came to see them for what they are. Will they start treating them as royalty? Like if a shipgirl asked for something example? The Mechanicus would do everything in their power to provide it as long as its not heretical or traitorous.

What do you think?

If they come to see the Ship girls are Machine Spirits made manifest? I think they would.

It'd be like how the Imperial forces act when they have a conformed Saint fighting with them.

Idea: Fox of Amber

Ok, here is my idea. Beginning at the start of the Training between part 1 and 2. Naruto meets one of his relatives and learns about his heritage. He more or less goes on a journey to learn the full extent of his heritage and make it back home. All the while trying to deal with his family and it's schemes and conspiracies.

Any questions or suggestions?

Minato looked at the girls staring intensely at him, before slurping the rest of his noddles. He took his time in drinking the broth before taking his drink.

Once he was properly fed and watered he stared at the owner of the Inn.

"To recap, you guys came from another planet originally and had been frolicking around for the past thousand years. Supposedly you guys also thought you were at the top of the food chain, and the fact that you and a couple of other Sekirei managed to beat up a naval battlegroup with ease confirmed your claims, right?"

They all nodded.

Minato pinched the bridge of his nose in response.

"You girls have no idea the kind of place you landed."

~~O~~

Sekirei/The Gamer crossover, where Minato Sahashi is also a Shinjin class natural ability user even if he's only a relative newbie at the moment. At this moment the Sekirei Plan is being watched by the native magic association in japan, which for simplicity sake wasn't beaten up like an unwanted red headed step child after WW2.

So, I was talking to some people, and we had an idea for a quest or story that I think would be interesting to explore. However, none of us have time for it, so I'm just gonna drop the prompt here and see if anybody picks it up.

Basically, a hunter from the Bloodborne franchise somehow winds up in the universe of Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate. Shenanigans ensue. Possibly involving a high-as-fuck alucard after drinking Great One blood from the hunter's neck while trying to kill him.

Huh, so the last post in this thread was from six years ago... is it okay if I necro this thread? I mean, it's a General Fics Thread, so it should be okay to necro it... eh, I'm gonna necro it then:

So, somehow, I wound my way back into Detective Conan fanfiction recently (though I have yet to pick back up on the anime itself), and I ended up wondering if I could find any crossover fics with some other fandoms I'm into, like Ace Attorney, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, among others: sadly, there was very little (or none) I could find that was of decent quality and length, so I decided to just pitch some ideas here and hope somebody takes an interest and picks them up.

Idea #1: DC/RE - Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri get placed in a similar situation to Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield during the Raccoon City Incident. Don't really have a clear outline on how that happens - maybe the events of RE2 happen in Japan rather than the USA, maybe Umbrella pulled some shenanigans in Japan, or Umbrella conspired with the Black Organization and things went south for whatever reason, or the Black Org's own in-house R&D department accidentally created a zombie virus on their own - point is, I just want to see Shinichi and Ran with the same dynamic that Leon and Claire had in RE2.

Idea #2: Shinichi/Conan somehow ends up dragged into the horrific nightmare that is the town of Silent Hill (either by visiting the town's canon location in Maine, USA, or by stumbling upon a similar occult setup in Japan's similarly-named city/prefecture of Shizuoka). Either way, I just want to see how he reacts to the clearly-logic-defying horrorscape that is Silent Hill, and it'd be a fascinating character exploration given his, uh, specific situation. As a bonus, throw in Kaitou KID/Kaito Kuroba and Akako Koizumi to see some of their reactions and thoughts on the place.

A small snippet of an idea for a Percy Jackson X F/GO idea.
"Hm, okay so the formula would be... I = mv2 - mv1 = m(v2 - v1)."
"Hm-hm."
"So then v1=242m/s and... v2=258m/s equals... 720,000 kg m/s!"
"That's right!" A small clap resounded throughout the room in the small apartment.
Percy Jackson leaned back with a yawn, feeling his back crack comfortably as he rolled his head around.
"These physics problems are torture! What's the point of knowing these stuff when we break them anyway?"
On his bed was a girl with her golden-blonde hair in a ponytail. in her lap was an open textbook indistinguishable from all the other books that surrounded them, near him was a paper book titled "DSTOMP: The Demigod Standard Test of Mad Powers."
"Hey! Physics is an important subject, don't you remember when I saved your life with it!" Annabeth said in false anger smiling while clicking her pen.
"Wait, really?" Percy said tilting his head.
"Remember our first quest Seaweed Brain? I-"
Percy drank in the normalcy of this scene. Only a few months ago was he fighting a giant evil robot with the face of a Roman Emperor, now here he was studying for University.
He wished for this to never end, no troubles, no saving the world just him and Annabeth together.
Which obviously meant things had to go wrong.
He immediately straightened up. Eyes dashing around the room as his senses scanned the room.
Annabeth held gave him a knowing look face filled with worry.
'You sense that too?'
He couldn't not sense it, it was like someone had shocked him with electricity, the back of his head buzzed.
He jumped off the bed and quickly exited his room in a run.
Entering the small living room he found... nothing out of the ordinary.
His stepfather Paul Blofis, was standing and rocking his baby sister Estelle while singing a small tune. His mom Sally Jackson was working on the couch, reading glasses on her face as her fingers moved across her laptop.
There was no worry on their faces, unlike the demigods, they couldn't sense whatever was worrying them.
"Percy, Annabeth what's wrong?" Paul asked.
Sally looked up from her laptop, noticing the pen in Percy's hand.
Percy himself was breathing heavily as running a marathon. Seeing his family fine didn't make him feel better, in fact, it made him feel worse. Knowing that his parents and baby sister could be in danger.
"I...Don't know."
He strode towards the window and opened it, peering out he saw people, no monsters, nothing. Just people walking around doing their things.
He lifted his head and stared at the sun, the light of Apollo's ride forcing him to squint.
'It's as if we're being watched.' Percy thought.
And then the world lit on fire.
It was in an instant.
Buildings or shelter provided no protection, they burned all the same.
Sally, Blofis, and Estelle didn't even have time to realize what was happening when they turned to ash, incinerated without pain.
"Per..cy."
Annabeth lasted longer, managing to stretch out her arm to him and say those final words before turning to dust.
Percy wasn't granted a painless death.
In the first second the flame didn't hurt, the power of his father Poseidon protected him.
But even the power of the Gods wasn't infallible.
He screamed as his skin melted, flame entering his lungs and roasting his voicebox.
His powers went wild, water appeared around him and disappeared just as quickly into steam.
Blood spurted out of his own vessels as they popped into steam.
Despite the pain as his nerves were charred he reached out a hand to where Annabeth once stood, in so much pain that he couldn't even think.
And then the floor burned away, and he fell into black, feeling nothing.
In that black, he saw.
A city just like Manhattan, covered in ever-burning flames.
A girl with white hair and in black who could only be described as a Witch, surrounded by dragons.
And the weirdest, a man in purple standing in front of the giant automaton that had attacked Camp Half-Blood. in front of him was a woman in red brandishing a weird zig-zaggy looking sword.
"Haaah!"
Percy jumped out of his bed hitting his head on the frame and landing on his nose.
"Haah...haah...hah."
Each breath came out heavy and labored.
It wasn't day, nor was everything on fire.
Before he could gather his thoughts his phone on his nightstand rang.
"Percy, we need to talk." Rachel's voice came through.
"Is it about the world suddenly turning on fire?" Percy asked.
"...Yes."
Just to note, this isn't a prologue or whatever. This is just something to reign in and control my thoughts. I'm still deciding how I want to write the story. Which is why this is super unpolished.
But to explain, Percy's having a dream where he sees Goetia burn everything and he sees some of the singularities.
As for why he sees only three singularities. It's because I just finished Fuyuki and Orleans and Septem are based on what I read from Timeless Academia.
If, when I do write this crossover this probably won't actually have this happen, or if I do it will be way less explicit. Maybe have Goetia pull a Kronos and actually notice Percy spying and do something.
Also as the vision with Septem shows, I am thinking of adding more Percy Jackson elements than just Percy Jackson. Like Nero from TOA. Also trying to decide if I should try to fuse the world's more, like Magus's knowing about gods and shit and maybe Percy being chosen by Chaldea instead of being suddenly sent there like Ritsuka.
Still have a lot to think about. So just chew on this for now.
