Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Happy to hear our boy isn't ambitious beyond hopes of a good life and survival. The fact he's developed the Star Wars equivalent of a Smart Phone/PDA makes me wonder if/when he plans to send the militarized variant off to his family as a gitt.

Regardless! Her closest in age sister is going to be a Tie Defender pilot. This will be…

Exciting. Oh god this will be exciting. Hope she doesn't end up dead at the hands of a game protagonist!

It's the dead end station of the Myto sector

At least on the bright side, if this follows eu continuity more than disney's, he is just a sector away from the future Imperial remnant capital world. So setting up for retirement in afew decades is good for him... on the other hand the vong pass awfully close to that region in their first push into the galaxy.

also I just wanna ask out of curiosity, is Pong the first game they made for their smartphones? or tetris? Or did they make a sabacc app... the last option feels most likely to succeed whilst also being most disruptive relatively speaking.

The first two are classics for mobile games but I feel like pong would pick up more fans if they were released at the same time, and i feel like sabacc would instantly win out the other two when released simply because everyone already knows it, as it's their version of poker.

I really went off on a tangent here but I am curious what mobile game you specifically had in mind when you mentioned it in this chapter

For once, I am not coming to you from the safety of my office. Instead, I am standing in a refurbished LAAT gunship, one that had been repainted in Imperial colors.

Wait, this is a personal real-time address to the reader? That's a change - is it deliberate? It changes the outlook of the story since it brings up the question of the medium, who he expects to be reading/seeing this, why he is writing it, etc.

Alvi was bored. So bored, she had resorted to bouncing a rubber ball against the wall for the better part of an hour while she waited.

Wait, another rubber ball? Is this galaxy being invaded by rubber ball-shaped aliens? Are these infiltration/spy drones that are disguised like rubber balls? Is rubber ball throwing secretly the most popular pass-time or sport in the SW galaxy?

She had done incredibly well in all of her tests back home, and had served for two years as an ace TIE pilot on the borders of Hutt space. She had even gone on a joint mission with some of the aces from Lord Vader's personal Death Squadron. She was one of the best!

It would be interesting if at some point the MC had to warn her off from a posting on one of the Death Stars or with Vader.

"...I like the TIE, sir, but it always felt… naked. I like a good adrenaline rush, don't get me wrong, but the standard TIE is wildly dangerous, and I've never felt like I could give the Empire my all with it as my fighter. I always performed better in the sims when flying ships like the old republic V-Wing, since I felt like it had more to give."

That's a rather bold admission to an admiral that she has met for the first time thirty seconds ago. For all she knows he could take it as an insult to Imperial fighter design and she could get into trouble. Possibly into a lot of trouble, depending on the admiral's mood. It would make sense if he explicitly asked her about her opinion on the TIEs or if they'd known each other for a while and it was an informal discussion, but they've just met.

This is also a not very natural way of answering a semi-straight-forward question.

The majority, however, fell right back into military positions. While some found their place in the army, or the system defense fleet, or as pilots, the majority wanted little to do with military conflicts.
I think you used the wrong word here either the majority wanted into the army or not.

Another option that would increase both his military, influence and his bank account would be to form a PMC and sell training to the local worlds that don't rate an Imperial presence. It would also give him a reason to acquire a certain amount of military equipment.

This is good, I've been really enjoying it so far. From your authors note it seems like people are forgetting that his only motivation is wait it out till Palpatine gets offed and then flee as soon as his family no longer have the resources to track him down. Also, can I just say that the TIE Defender looks ridiculous. It's like a terrible kitbash of a few TIE Fighters in an attempt to make a version of the Droid Tri-Fighter.

A backwater among backwaters, huh?

Well, if his sissy being an Ace is anything to go by, that 'backwater among backwaters' bit ain't gonna be true for much longer.

Not even mentioning the fucking rebels.

Yeah, he's getting the Tanya Von Degurechaff treatment, ain't he? Wants the quite life but is constantly dragged into the Galactic Spotlight?

Great chapter.

What are the chances Rex many show up to check on his brother's.

Damn the Myto Sector, lol even when the Empire dies he'll still have to deal with that shit and the Vong.

Hmm depending how it goes on Lothal the mc may be able to construct his own Tie Defenders.

the further down the Tanya route of misunderstanding he goes the more I am assured that things will continually go to stop him from having his quite semi modern backwater life he wants.

The rebels of course are going to start fighter production of upgraded V wing/ ARC-170s since they can't get X wings in system I feel. He'll come across it somehow and declare "my secretary told yall about the system defense force fighter contract we're about to send out tomorrow didn't she? I can't believe her, letting yall know so you can get a jump on the competition." And then they'll have a top tier fighter/ fighter bomber that they have to mass produce for the planetary Defense Force and slowly become an actual vital part of the systems MIC.

Would be hilarious if they had to not give it to the rebellion though, because it's linked to only this one system so rebel high command upon learning of what's going on hands them parts lists for X wings that they can subtly deliver to them thus meaning all this hassle with creating a fighter production company and making an entirely new fighter for the rebellion was for nothing.

I expect something like that to happen at least and can't wait. I love characters with the Tanya effect, Espescialy when it runs off on the people around them as well

Ngl, what I'd like to see is a mix of EU and Canon.

Canon had some great ideas, being the First Order and Snoke (ignoring the fact that he's a clone of Sidious), and seeing how Templin redesigned the First Order, I could legit see the New Republic being besieged on all sides: from the Imperial Remnants, the First Order and the Vongs in the north.

With all of that happening, the Minda system had seen an influx of nearly ten-thousand new people, with nearly two-thousand of those being clones.
Two thousand isn't that many clones back in the Republic days, but from all the abuse and neglect that might be a good portion of them. A solid martial core for the planet.
In fact, once things had calmed down in the newly named city of Vrectin, I had let the people hold an election to determine their mayor for the next five years. It was a test-bed for introducing democracy to the people of the Minda system in slow doses. The hope was that, if I was able to ensure that the candidates were qualified, then these cities would be able to govern themselves, and sort out corruption themselves, therefore reducing the amount of paperwork I have to do.
Introducing democratic processes to the planetary government is probably going to raise some eyebrows on both sides of the Civil War.

On the Rebel side it is going to gut a lot of propaganda efforts on Ugea. Kind of hard to promise a return to a Democratic Republic when the Empire is giving you something a bit like that on the local level. The fact these elections seem (relatively) free is only going to compound the issue.

On the Empire side, it probably falls within a governor's purview to do this. However, with the "encouragement" towards more totalitarian methods means Las' method of rule isn't going to be "fashionable". Las might be regarded as "soft" for his light touch of ruling.

At least the Emperor won't have a problem with it. After all, Palpatine loves democracy.
The clones had taken fairly well to being treated like actual people once they arrived. Like the other colonists, they had been given tax cuts and the possibility of land grants/low interest loans to start businesses. The majority, however, fell right back into military positions. While some found their place in the army, or the system defense fleet, or as pilots, the majority wanted little to do with military conflicts. Those clones opted instead for joining the planetary police force. They patrolled streets, checked id at checkpoints, patrolled the roads between cities, and so on. There they fit right in, working in roles they were used to that didn't treat them like slaves or meat shields.
The fact that Las is letting the Clones do their thing and not harassing or abusing them means they are going to make up a solid portion of the forming hardcore Las loyalists on the planet. Las probably being unaware he even has a loyalist faction on the planet will be funny.

Also good on Ugea for not outright hating the Clones. My guess is the Clones are viewed something like a Clan of similar looking immigrants. Minda was probably too much of a backwater to see clanker or clone feet during the Clone Wars. Not like there was anything strategic about the system before this.

That's hard to stay as there were crashed Republic and Separatists in the system so there was some type of engagement but it's likey it didn't effect the population that much.

One thing I wonder is as as more clones show up will that include any Arc troopers, Clone Commandos or any other specialized units

The first order honestly just seemed like a more fanatical , less sane, and less goal focused empire of the hand, with the caveat that the first order had wayy more ships and way larger ships because they could wait out construction and were not in a constant war of expansion & assimilation against the forces of the unknown regions.

Though I do admit I like some of the first order's designs, especially the resurgent, but a whole lot of the rest of their development felt way too underdeveloped and handwavy to me.

Also thanks for the suggestion of the video, I checked it up and I'm going to watch it tommorrow before either comment, but I'm not sure the author mentioned the first order in any context yet or that they will even show up anytime soon in the story.

"To those who have already paid the increased tax, the difference will be sent back to you.
Really? Already falling bad. The standar is just on the next tax just discount it.
Failing to account the inflation or anything on that so it gives You the ilution of getting it back but then that money is worth less and You having the money now to use it.

Templin Institute MENTIONED. LETS FUCKING GO. They do the best sic-fi videos, and their redesigning of the first order, new republic, and the war between them is legitimately fucking incredible. peak. absolute peak. incredible reference.

It would be a definite boon to have some clones train local, uh... auxiliary troops? Planetary Defense Forces? Personal Stormtroopers? I know the Galactic Empire has the Imperial Army, maybe them?

What are the troops that our SI has access to?

This is obviously his planned game for official launch day.

He's an imperial Governor so standard Imperial Stormtrooper a.k.a. mostly conscripted force with inconsistent at best quality. They would honestly help because having an actual good training officer is rare in the Empire because its filled with Sadist incompetents because as stated by his Sister? Nobody wants to be an Army officer given Naval Prioritization.

With the follow up after Endor being.

Several years later, MC decides to introduce Gatcha games and shortly after is voted most EVIL Overlord of the galaxy to ever exist.

If you wanted to go all out, I'd bring in all the imperial fragment factions from the canons; the legends ones can stay pretty much the same, like the Pentastar, Zsinj, etc, but from canon id make a fair bit of changes...

The first order in this case would be founded by Brandol Hux, and a cadre of imperial engineers he commandeered while evacuating Arkanis - as a fanatic (not merely an incompetent psychopath), he planned for a long turn return of a Pure Empire. His original leadership is headed by himself, a collection of his former secret society members from the Arkanis academy, and lastly Snoke. A mysterious creature, seemingly more near human than purely xeno; claiming to be the Hand of the Emperor. Brandol is the original Supreme leader, until his mysterious death; his son and heir, Armitage, is upstaged by the powerful forcewielding snoke, and his new heir Darth Ren; forcing the ground officer into an ill fiting naval position, serving at the forefront of the new conquest to reclaim the Empire.

The Final Order, is another Palpatine scheme, alongside the Dark Empire. In this case however, it is being headed by Cyranus Palpatine, son of Palpy and Yvanne Isard. A thoroughly evil creature, this sith spawn, like so many non sith forcewielders in palpys empire, is a poorly trained Imperial agent, on par with a Legends Inquisitor (he knows force lightning at least). Having enjoyed the fruits of his parents labours (Isard funneling more ships to Exogol, post Battle of Endor), Cyranus's only point of failure in his plans is the flight of his former mistress, with their child Reyla Palpatine.

EDIT:

A further idea - in this line of thought, Kylo Ren/Darth Ren, is Anakin Solo, or his Twin (new) Bail Solo. Anakin in legends, was almost possessed by palps as a baby, meanwhile if we want to stay with movies Ren, Bail is a far better fitting name for Leia's son, than Ben. Also the knights of Ren suck - so Bail's dark sider name, is a Sith name. We want to be star wars guys, not bland corporate fanfiction while we avoid paying George royalties. His storyline similarly is massively changed to being one of Lukes many failed students, while training on Yavin 4 (maybe he gets exposed to Exar Kun as a teacher or something). His strengths are in lightsaber combat, but hes pretty rubbish with the force (no patience like Anakin, but at the same time none of his grandfather or uncles gift for learning/self teaching)

Similarly Rey, or Reyla/Reyna (whichever works better, former sounds more Naboo), is very much a different character. Her nature and instincts are very much influenced from her ancestry, with elements of psychopathy and intense selfishness, sort of like Anakin. However, again much like Anakin, her mother raises her to be a good person. so its nature vs nurture, albeit palpy and palpy junior, are her literal progenitors rather than father figures. Her strengths are in sheer force power, wielding very wild and feral abilities (as she has no training), she has little to no ability to fight with weapons (not unlike her grandfather) and gets by on mind tricks, 'luck' etc.

As someone who works for a local council's rates department, most people who overpay their rates want them refunded now, not discounted from the next year. I don't doubt that would extend to other types of taxes.

nice chapter thx for writing it
fun seeing the relative's of the mc ^^
still think the rebels will be shocked once they learn they need to fill all the paperwork and it gets checked on where all his profits are

On the other hand, Minda is a backwater amongst backwaters. Nobody important is going to bother paying attention to how Las is running it or bother having an opinion on its governor. The only person who'd care is his mother, and that's because she's looking for an excuse to get him killed in "honorable service".
