Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

"Corellian industry"
Mmm Sludge
Mmm Filth
Aah Fumes
Oooh Cack!

cost me nearly four months of saving my wages for this one shipment.
That had better be for an industrial amount,
and it better be kriffing orgasmic
...
and do taxes
Sometimes I forget she has opposable thumbs until she picks up a fucking book.
🎶Be aware of alien infiltrators posing as house-pets🎶

To me, it was useless. Sure, the size I can understand to an extent, a sector is a large thing to administer and it requires a great deal of manpower and space to do things. But the gold? The dozen story tall cloth banners with the Imperial Sigil?

Wack.
Thank goodness COMPNOR are not telepaths.
"The technicians report that it'll take them a few days to check all the servers for bugs and plants. The analysts say it'll take them at least a few months to go through all the files to check for inconsistencies." Said Garp, the secretary sitting to my side, tall even when sitting.
Dear Force, Las is going to go over the entire sector records. The review is going to result in so much. Imagine filing that you found a new resource rich world, only it winds up lost in bureaucracy.
I started scrolling as I spoke. "Well, so long as their non-"

"-human, right?" Garp answered cheekily, a smirk on his face.

I sent him a friendly glare. "I was going to say non-standard Imperial, ass. It's not my fault all my secretaries end up being non-humans."

"Some might say it's a…preference of sorts, sir."

I huff. "Really? How does that explain you?"

"You're an open minded man, I hear."
"The only thing attractive about you is your fashion sense, Garp. You're going to die single." I reply,
Other Imperials would have a heart attack to hear Garp talk to his Moff like that.
One for my hot chocolate, one for his tea, and one for the BBQ sauce Mugwuffin likes sipping on. Sometimes I forget she has opposable thumbs until she picks up a fucking book.
Now I am imagining Mugwuffin walking into a kitchen, getting a bottle of sauce from the fridge, then downing it in shot glasses. While Las is having a meeting with someone.
My rank pips ensure that every trooper and officer steps out of our way, giving a quick salute. Myrthos's visage makes the rest move out of fear. It's odd to think of them as scary, considering I've watched them lose a match of dejarik so badly I thought they were cursed.
They don't even realize they are a Sith (dark side user). Then again, Myrthos probably has that dark sider walk going on.
"Why tell me? As General, shouldn't I be under the most suspicion?"

As the door began to close, he said one last thing.

"Because you're a good person, Yulitra."
The Imperial Moff says to the Imperial General. Man Myto's Imperial government is going to be so confusing for outsiders.
"Sir, there seems to be a development on Minda. It seems a great deal of individuals have arrived on Accordia to seek your presence, sir."

What?

"What? Did I piss someone off?"

Garp looks at me as if I'm stupid. I'm not stupid!
Las, you are a brilliant bureaucrat and public speaker, but man can you be dense sometimes.
I have been waiting MONTHS for that chocolate. It's only available in the Corellian system, using milk from a specific type of cattle found nowhere else, and mixed with local in system herbs to create what has been described as the "taste of Corellian freedom!", at least before the Empire made them change it to "Corellian industry" instead. And it cost me nearly four months of saving my wages for this one shipment.
The fact that Las is having these thoughts after leaving Moff Tarry's gold encrusted Imperial palace. I refuse to believe Moff Hiral built something that tacky.
As for the hyperspace stuff, it was simple. Knowing that I would be Moff meant that I needed to improve the sector. And one of the best ways to do that is information flow.

HoloNet relays and the hyperspace transceivers used to tie them together were an obvious improvement. Most of the ones out here were old, and the Net didn't cover the entire sector. There were many, many systems that had to rely on subspace emitters, which could only contact nearby systems.

My hope was that with better communication in place, things could get done quicker, better and overall have life be less of a pain in the ass.
Moff Gunther: "I used my sector's taxes to build a planet to space freeze ray to ice Rebel fleets!"

Moff Luther: "Well I used my sector's taxes to build a gun designed to activate volcanoes all over a planet!"

Moff Las: "I used my sector's taxes to upgrade my sector's communication grid and improved my people's quality of life and productivity."

Other Moffs: "…"

Moff Las: "What? Isn't that what you are supposed to do with taxes?"
And if the connection happened to be wiretapped, well that's the Empire. Hopefully those slaver bastards would be dumb enough to use the system. Though they likely had their own systems in place.
Yeah the Empire did not like uncontrolled Hyperspace communications. They often went after owners of private networks to stifle non-Imperial friendly news from getting around.

Also yes, the slavers are probably dumb enough to use the system. They know the Empire is bugging it, but they'll assume it is their Empire bugging it, not their political opponents,
Mostly, I used it to note down the details I saw of how the Empire functioned. Politically, economically, and more. All a part of a personal project of mine.

As I studied more and more politics and economics, I took it upon myself to assign myself homework. Study practice of sorts.

Aside from just doing publicly available university tests, I decided to try writing something. Like an essay almost, or a treatise. Though that makes it sound fancier than it is. It's just a collection of what I've noticed about how the empire functions, and more importantly how it fails, which it does far too often.
Las' treatise is going to be amazing and probably banned in New Republic space for being too Imperial friendly.

Hey if you are open for suggestions then take a look at this @Freefaller

If possible encourage the construction of small to mid tier shipyards and starfighter factories on planets throughout the sector that can on paper support such infrastructure, and upgrade the Mindan militia and pilot academy into proper Imperial military academies, and prop up some other academies in the sector in order to prepare for the shitshow that is the aftermath of the Battle of Endor or BoE in short.

Would also start the construction of naval bases in the form of highly advanced space stations placed throughout the sector divided up into sub-sectors for patrol streamlining, and rapid response in case of emergencies and attacks by pirates and rebel forces. While doing this also invest in orbital defense spacestations like the Golan II or III on planets that comply with say Guild directives on things such as slavery and economics.

Can also expand Minda's starfighter factory since we can now begin distributing our TIE's into the sector military in order to upgrade the capabilities of the sector navy when it comes to their abilities of fighting rebel forces, since the standard TIE is dogshit or bantha poodoo compared to what the rebels are fielding.

Also gonna need to construct Star Destroyers or buy some of em from Kuat with the question being how many and if going by my suggestion of sub-sectors how many to get. How many we get can then be distributed within the different sub-sectors and be backed up with other starships that we produce in order to make proper escort fleets for each sub-sector, and maybe see if you can get the unpopular(cuz of the Tarkin-doctrine) Secutor-class Star Destroyer to act as the sector fleets flagship as this ship is what the Venator-class wished it could be.

Maybe also encourage the construction of orbital trade stations to help with the flow of goods coming in and out of the sector, and once again in order to prepare for BoE building up local banking infrastructure since things are gonna be chaotic when we enter the rise of the New Republic and Imperial Remnant warlord era, having as much infrastructure for peace, order and stability as possible is going to be crucial and getting as much of these in early is for the best.

Ah, the personal project that will see him become Imperial Regent after Endor? Because everyone else is either a rebel, incompetent or caught with their proverbial pants down. Or they're dead.
We are essentially one of the sectors that would or is going to make up the Pentastar Alignment of the Imperial Remnant warlord factions, so i see us becoming part of the Grand Moffs inner circle if not number two.

Nice chapter. Yes, telephone infrastructure is one of the sector infrastructure projects that's only useful. He could, of course, also develop the rest of the sector. Or co-finance projects on his worlds (like factories or agricultural investments). He knows roughly what's coming. So he probably wants to ensure that his sector is as independent as possible and ideally so heavily armed that the other powers think twice about whether an invasion is worthwhile. Oh, and it looks like we're getting the Hutt secretary.

Well it looks like the angry mob of corrupt politicians and lobbyists are here and I really hope to see him use the standard imperial methods of dealing with people who complain on them for a change.
Yeah, if he used the brutal methods That the empire is used to doing on these Traitorous rebels. That way , if lord vader , or someone of Equal rank would take a look at that and say , oh , just like everywhere else.

Also realized I know all of jackshit about space based sector wide infrastructure. I kept trying to come up with shit that Las could build and all I could think of was the fucking phone lines.
You should totally start stealing stuff from the Gigastructure engineering mod stellaris. :)

Anyways, investing into telecommunications is definitely a good idea, medical industry might be too if we're in the timeline where the empire released a galactic plague after loosing Couruscant to the new republic.
Guild might be able to make money off jump ships/towing slower ships through hyper space like a bus service though that would depend on how slow civilian/merchant ships are in universe. Could try to research quantum catapults from stellaris as an alternative.
Maybe look into Dyson spheres/swarms? I have no idea what the energy use of the sector is looks like though.
He is living in the outer rim so some space exploration, surveying annf colonization initiatives wouldn't be the worst ideas.

"Some might say it's a…preference of sorts, sir."

I huff. "Really? How does that explain you?"

"You're an open minded man, I hear."
"The only thing attractive about you is your fashion sense, Garp. You're going to die single." I reply, crossing off a few candidates. Good education, but no real life experience. Need someone more well rounded, since this isn't just a basic secretary job.

Now i want an omake where its like PHO but its the holonet talking about Las' possible romantic tastes. with las' sith that he has to babysit trolling on the holonet making the rumors worst for him. it would be funny to see the other characters POV's on the rumors especially seeing how his family might respond to the rumors.

I want to see him tell someone why the Republic fell was due to corruption, by changing the name to Empire and promoting those same corrupt idiots they've screwed themselves over and they need to clean house on all the Republic idiots who screwed up their last government. As the only way forward is to get rid of the rotten past, otherwise they're doomed to repeat it.

Of course he needs to get promoted twice more and let Vader and Luke kill off Palpatine, but once it's done he can make those comments and someone can accidentally broadcast it. Let everyone remember the reason things turned to shit was the Republic, not simply due to the Empire. Would hopefully get the idiots of the Rebellion to stop and think, rather than just follow the old Republic senators once they've got some victories under their belt. Since those incompetent idiots are just going to rebuild that same failed system all over again.

Been going through this story for a few days in text to speech app to get through work, and it's been great.

Was already agonizing that I caught up to it yesterday, only to see one now.

Truly, MC isn't really seeing the scope of improvement he's been doing back at Minda and then at Edin to see how much others envy or try to copy him.

Localized delegation in the rural and urban sectors, as well as a streamlined supply chain feeding into the central government. Making sure that the failing in one area isn't his fault and gives the areas a sense of "Freedom and autonomy" where in they just pay their tithes and then benefit from the advances in tech our boi's R&D make.

Speaking of his R&D, having the LECAs sent out in "Civilian" models actually boosted productivity and safety in many industries. It's like when power armor frames where circulating in the Fallout universe. That, and his TIE variants make more sense than the Defender project, while the Empire values little of their pilots and won't spend so much for a Wunderwaffe fighter, they will allow something that is still feasible and eats from the established parts flowing through the supply lines.

It's like I'm watching Star Wars equivalent of Release That Witch, and while our Boi is worried about the results of the civil war, he's already planning to survive the Yuuzhan Vong

Thankfully being an Imperial employee means housing, food and clothing for free, so as long as I keep my personal expenses low I can afford stuff like this once in a while.
So first of all, awful slogan there, who wants to taste industry?

Secondly and more importantly I thought that this seemed weird considering he's a high ranking imperial governor, and now a moff. There's no way he'd have to save up for months and live frugally just to purchase some private luxuries, even if they were idk, gold plated caviar or some shit.

Then I thought, what if the official pay for Governors and Moffs is actually far lower than you'd expect? After all, they're expected to make up for it with corruption. If anything it'd actually be considered something of a benefit by the people higher up because it makes it ridiculously easy to get rid of troublesome subordinates. They must be corrupt because it's basically encouraged, so you just sic your spies on them to find out where they get the money from and then shitcan them, or even execute them. Don't even need to fabricate evidence.

Omake: Rural Imperial Justice

POV: Judge Cornelius Corswain Corderella of the unincorporated area of the north-northwestern section of Khuzemara Plains in the east-southeastern corner of the Shubeon continent, Ugea, Minda System.

Judge Cornelius rubbed the bridge of his nose. A habit becoming ever more common as the years went by. The strain of hearing the same cases over and over again in this backwater of backwaters had long since stopped bringing any kind of satisfaction.

He had been assigned to this court to bring Imperial law and order to the scattering of communities and hamlets in this region. The Governor turned Moff had made it a priority to not allow "legal deserts" on his world. Such a situation would leave room open for unsavory elements to move in and take advantage of the jurisdictional murkiness.

Every plot of land and water by law must have an assigned court presiding within the unit of territory. This meant sending a Rural Law Team of a judge, a couple of unlucky prosecutors, and some sentenced public defense attorneys to every unincorporated corner of Ugea. Each one was either a fresh naive idealist, a voluntold reluctant, or a cynic ground down by staying here too long.

There was talk of requiring a jury to hear these cases. However unincorporated areas like the one Cornelius had been assigned to lacked the population to even consistently assemble a jury of the defendant's peers. Let alone an unbiased one. There was an average of more than 15 kilometers between households in the unincorporated area of the north-northwestern section of the Khuzemara Plains.

No Cornelius had been sent far from the gleaming towers of Accordia, or even the verdant fields of Rolling Greens. The unincorporated area of the north-northwestern section of the Khuzemara Plains could only boast of modest sustenance farmers, a couple of full time hunters, and the occasional peddler. What he had thought was a stepping stone in his advancement through the judicial branch had turned into arduous slog.

Even the meteoric rise brought about by Las' time as Governor did little to breathe the vitality of civilization into this sleepy landscape. The whole area seemed to resist any attempt at urbanization or even centralization of any kind. Taking a steadying breath, Judge Cornelius readied himself for another day of hearing cases that will do nothing for the prosperity of the Empire.

——
"For the last time Forris, you have to pay all of your taxes. If you do not then the Empire will take issue with your use of that land."

The ancient farmer gave a huff and sported the same upper lip he had his last hearing. Giving a wet snort before articulating something Cornelius guessed was a response.

"I din haf to pi te lass tai! Yo don gush fom mai nu manir pit!"

Cornelius nodded along. He had long since deciphered the thick Basic accent of the previous generation of natives after his first year in his court. That fiasco when he accidentally approved a marriage of racing Shaaks to settle a succession dispute over a stable was motivation enough.

"The reason you did not have to pay those years was due to the tax credit the Governor enacted. That tax credit period has run out, you have to pay the Emperor's Geld same as everyone else. Now I am giving you your final warning: either pay you back taxes, or there will be repercussions over your manure pit."

"$~*>{ *€]!^ ;?£~!" *Hoch! Ptew!*

The bailiffs had to stumble the avoid the spit as they escorted the withered mass of the back in my day and spite from the court. Maybe sending a letter to his next of kin in Rolling Greens would yield better results.

——
"These are very serious charges Mr. Cofglaw. This court takes a dim view of assaulting public utility workers."

Mr. Cofglaw's eyes darted around the courtroom. As if expecting stormtroopers to drag him away at a moment's notice. Good, at least he felt guilty.

"You don't understand judge! He was an Imperial agent searching through my trash. Sent by the Imperial shadow government to find the best way to spike my food with drugs in order to install cybernetics to make me a sleeper agent!"

Or maybe not. Isolation sure does strange things to people. Introducing new people to the area was always going to lead to incidents.

"I assure you Mr. Canyonsplitter is not part of Imperial shadow government. He is just there to collect your garbage so you don't have to take it to the landfill anymore."

The defendant remained unconvinced of his expression was anything to go by. If anything Cornelius' explanation puffed him up even more. This was confirmed when he opened his mouth.

"They want to silence me judge! They figured out I know too much! That I could expose their plans to build an interstellar freeze ray to put a halt to all non-Imperial shipping and gain a monopoly on space travel!"

Cornelius has no idea how these loons come up with these theories. Really, what's next? A giant gun meant to fire torpedoes at light speed? As if the Empire would waste tax dollars on such flights of fancy.

——
"This is an outrage! Do you know who I am!?"

Judge Cornelius gave a judicial glower at the jumped up Guild merchant. The merchant probably thought he could swindle his people just because they did not have much in governmental structure.

"I apologize for the inconvenience. However the Butlerage applies to all off world merchants selling alcoholic beverages. No exceptions."

Looking up the defendant's record told the same tired tale. A low level Trader trying to carve their niche in the wilderness. Seeing his unincorporated area as easy prey.

"Surely the benefits my wares will bring will outweigh whatever paltry projects will be funded by this duty?"

Cornelius had to deal with plenty of Traders over the years seeking to pump up their profit numbers by selling directly to locals to instead of to the cantinas. It always ended the same. Every exception made would be a potential danger to his career. Stalled as it was.

"No exceptions means no expectations. Now the duty will be applied retroactively to your previous sales. Failing to pay that or trying to avoid the Butlerage in future sales will result in a mark in your Guild record. Do not test the court on this."

The Trader sagged in defeat as yet another "brilliant scheme" was foiled. At least the wine was good quality. Otherwise the Trader might have faced another fine for not meeting food quality standards like the last one.

——
"I must in most humble manner complain, show, and beseech your most gracious and excellent honor. Our Imperial majesty's most faithful and obedient subject Willius Farcrock accommodations do little to engender goodwill on this fine month of this Emperor's great year. Verily I must inquire that your majesty's most faithful and obedient subject Willius Farcrock be allowed to satisfy his pressing requirements for two Shaaks, brimming with vim and vigor to presently to appear before him so that he may engage in conduct most traditional that he is bound by duty and culture."

Judge Cornelius rested his face in his hands. Having learned from the racing Shaak marriage incident, he quickly allocated two Shaaks from the local Imperial herd from the back of courthouse before things spiraled out of control. The stains still haven't come out from last time.

How that Wookie afforded the same lawyer from Accordia as last time, he'll never know. He was pretty sure Willius was an ex-slave that just ran off into the woods a few years back and became a herder. At least his antics bring the occasional weird tourist to buy Knick Knacks at the court gift shop.

Just another day in the unincorporated area of the north-northwestern section of the Khuzemara Plains.

——
A look into how the Imperial legal system works in the sleepier corners of Las' domain. Imperial Judges are such a fun concept to explore. Especially when they can't or don't just rubber stamp everything in the Empire's favor due to authoritarianism and corruption.
