Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Speaking of the Lucrehulk why not grab an idea from the Screw the force, i have money self insert fic and just put as many shield generator as you can in it on the repairs from taking it over, it doesn't need weapons if it can just ram other ship and get anywhere with any chance of lose of or damage of cargo.

As well being turned into thee most secure transport for goods during it into a moving star station filled to the brim with tie's will be excellent in time of need for the out rim

Now, onto speculation. These mecha designs are borne of the skunkworks crackheads in the R&D team, and are not finished products. Whether or not they will be very effective is debatable, so I leave it up to you. Would these mecha and exo suits be effective for combat?
Against a "normal" rebel cell or pirates? I can see mecha and exos being effective. These groups tend to focus on hit and run tactics with light infantry and vehicles. Two things not noted as having much in the way of armor penetration.

The most these Armors would have to worry about are a few rocket launchers and homemade IEDs. Rocket launchers tend to be for "specialists" so would be few and far between. IEDs tend to be unwieldy and rely on surprise and trickery so as long as the Armors maintain recon superiority, they should have no problem stomping the opposition.

Even the limited production run is not that big a downside. The fact of the matter is that there are just not that many rebels or pirates to fight. A limited production run could handle most threats in a Sector with little worry for repairs and maintenance.

That being said, the armors are not perfect. The Armors are effective at killing Rebels and Pirates, but they are not cost-effective. It is like sending a tank after bank robbers.

For someone who cares about the budget, you're better off invested in more blasters and armored vehicles and eating the casualties, even in the Outer Rim.

Fortunately Las doesn't care about cost effectiveness for this project. There is also the bonus of making Minda a very unattractive target for small fish given no one wants to be stomped on by a mech.

Force users I can also see being a counter to these. For all the tech and weaponry, the pilot is still a baseline sentient. A well trained precog with enhanced reflexes and a Laser sword could probably get in close enough to put the Lightsaber into some very sensitive parts fairly reliably with the Force on their side.

On the other hand well trained force users are also incredibly rare after they received Palpatine's retirement offer. High ranking Jedi or favored Sith apprentices could do some damage, but these things will probably be facing former Padawans or arrogant Sith wannabes. Against the latter they have some chance, but still just a chance, and you know what the Force likes to mess with the odds.
Would they be useful for Las's position specifically?
For defending Las' domain and conducting limited offensives against criminal bases? A limited production run would probably be more than enough. It is unlikely other Imperial Governors in the local sector will be interested in buying them due to the education requirements for the workforce and military.

Once you reach a certain amount of mechs, more mechs start stepping on each other's toes. The Exos also should probably be kept for elite formations unless Las wants to tank his income in a potentially embarrassing way.

For Las' finances? He can't really spend too much on this project without appearing too wasteful. Being too wasteful increases his chances of getting infantry duty.
Are there any other designs you think would work better in their place?
Turning R&D to designing vehicles might be the next step.

The Exo suits having dedicated transports could up their effectiveness. Their increased size might make standard transports a less attractive option. Plus a export variant could also be marketed as a plus sized transport for plus sized sentients.

Vehicles for the Mechas are probably overkill. Better to stick to large Imperial transports and treat them as vehicles in of themselves.

Vehicles for "regular" infantry might also be something Las can sink money into. APCs, Mobile Command vehicles, and even tanks could be used to sink a lot of money into the military. It might also be something to sell on the Sector Market.

locally designed tanks and ifv's could be a decent money pit

Maybe see if las can start making AT-XTs the at-st prototype, with shields
Also develeop and mass produce fallout style T45 Power armor for the Army troopers

Most of Miban R&D will never get big for these reasons, rival corps stealing or sabotaging this backwater upstart, Tarkin doctrine, needs to fit with imperial aesthetics, imperial politics and stupidity, TIE pilot's suicidal pride that they don't need shields, the refining cost and the bureaucratic process of the Galactic Empire.

There are going to be many who think that why does the empire need an upgrade it is already working so don't need to be upgraded. A stupid version of If it anit broken don't fix it.

Gonna hope it's the Rebels doing a sabotage because they saw an easy way to take out a governor. That's not something they'd pass up even if he was good for the people. Because they'd be able to tout taking him out at other bases for propaganda, and he'd be replaced by one who wasnt good for the people here so they could use that for propaganda to try and finally start turning the people of Minda to their cause.

Can't have the people be happy under Imperial rule after all. That'd be like the Republic they pine for letting people be happy under Separatist rule. Just completely not on.

Truly the worst, these Rebel Scum are.

While that is possible the fact that it's a backwater system means any PR victory will be minor at best, added onto that fact is it holds one of the Rebels few repair facilities means the smarter rebels won't want to rock the boat while there are better targets.

No if say Saw Gerrera came around it would be a different story since him and his people are only interested in hurting Imperials so they would try something.

It depends on tech and tactics. Unshielded mechs are wasteful as armour units against any force that has anti-tank weapons, but could fill the niche of cavalry scout units if they're fast enough. Shielded mechs...depends on the strength of the shielding? Light or medium shielding could see them acting like light tanks or tankettes? Their very method of locomotion means they can't really fulfill the role of main battle tank and they're less effective in bad terrain. Now, if Las scales up to Warhammer 40k titans, those things can carry enough shields to deter armies and have anti-air emplacements on their backs. That level of firepower might draw the wrong type of attention, however.

Honestly if you want mechs dust off AT-XT its effectively a shielded AT-ST and doesnt require ridiculous rd and specalised production facilities, plus creating mechas would draw all kinds of unwanted attention while AT-XT might get some raised brows but ultimatly dismissed

Wonder if any clone wars material was salvaged from the venator wreck that was mentioned and the status of the wreck itself

Smart Rebels. That's a laugh. Why would there be any of those in a backwater system? They'd move up the ranks and get better postings.

Or maybe they should have, but they got this posting. And now they have a need to make a name for themselves. Can't move up ranks if you're not making moves.

And I think you underestimate the kind of PR this can be. Doesn't matter if it's a backwater in reality, it doesn't look it. No, Minda is an off the books deep cover Imperial R&D site. Endless funds 'from the governor' to make new TIE and armor designs? New mechs to replace the easily dealt with chicken walker? Producing a now in demand across Imperial space data pad that makes the galaxy more reliant on the Empire to keep supplying such a useful tool?

No, obviously this is an R&D world the Empire gave a cover too to try and throw off the Rebels. The governor is the son of one of Tarkins right hands even!

Seriously, the propaganda writes itself, doesn't even have to be the Rebel high command writing it to use for propaganda, just has to be an ambitious Rebel selling it to high command.

this would bring huge amounts of attention to las tho, which he pointedly does not want,

And less important as its only my personal opinion but i really dislike when authors start bring in gundams and Ac etc into star wars It turns it into a clone of the media that the mechas are sourced from

Also rebel command and other cells are aware of the importance of the minda system refit yard, so i somewhat doubt they would draw scrutiny to themselves by blowing up the govenor, as it was experimental weapons it may have just been an accident, which makes us the readers think it was sabotage or assaisin attempt

We recently sold a batch of PDAs to people from FONDOR of all places. That the other side of the galaxy, for crying out loud. I gotta find a way to justify cutting exports.
Oh Las, by cutting the exports you're only going to drive up demand, especially now that a famous shipyard probably distributed them to help their workers, Kuat & Sienar are going to be all over Minda if only to get a head start on all the other designers since buying out a governor is easier than killing & replacing him, also it's an occasion to escalate MC's career by having palps put him in charge of the datapad/PDA monopoly since he couldn't touch it before due to some convoluted reasons for the purpose of the story

Imagine the flash he saw was just the ignition of the weapon firing and someone was playing with a rubber ball near him accidentally thrown it too hard at the wall and it bounced behind his head knocking him out

Truly rubber balls are the ultimate weapon

The Delta-7 Aethersprite got sold to the huts.

Os the armor, they are divided in three categories:

Infantry power armor:
MkII StormTrooper Generalist Armor

battletech battle armor:
Mk1 Elite High-Mobility Armor,
Mk1 Executive Defense Combat Armors
Mk1 Advanced Elite Guard Interdiction System

Battletech mech:
Mk I Light Expeditionary Combat Armor
Mk I Heavy Defense Combat Armor
Mk1 Mobile Artillery Support Armor

Production wise the stormtropper power armor is ready for mass-production, the battle armor needs to be turned into a single plataform using modular systems to differentiate between mobility, Defense and Assault.
On the mech you can use a tie Cockpit and make like the arhan from the anime "expelled from paradise" like use the frame, shield, ion Drive, repulsorlift and turbolasers.

IIRC A Lucrehulk is a bulk hauler by design, every other variant is a modification. So while it can function quite well in some combat roles it had been adapted to, it excels in bulk cargo transport by design still. Just needs some modifications to bring it up to its true purpose probably.

I mean, do you know what the difference is between a big-ass hangar bay and a big-ass cargo bay? One stores fighters, and the other stores everything else. As far as I know, literally the only interior difference between the standard freighter version of the Lucrehulk and the Carrier-Battleship version is that the latter has a more robust reactor to power its improved weapons and shields, as well as the support equipment for it's fighter and bomber complement. Otherwise, all the differences are external (i.e. better armament, stronger armor, etc.), so it's basically already useable as a cargo ship at nearly 100% of the efficiency the freighter version would get. No modification is really needed there.

Plus, it could easily be pressed into service in one capacity or another for the Mindan fleet. Wartime Lucrehulks were heavily automated, so it wouldn't dig into Las' manpower pool all that much, and it wouldn't be the first time Imperial forces repurposed the things for their own use. Supposedly, Lucrehulk Carriers and Lucrehulk Battleships that were captured after the shutdown command was broadcast were often simply given an Imperial paint job and put to work as part of one sector fleet or another.

Ehh . . . I'm not that crazy over the new armors/mecha designs to be honest. Maybe it's that watching so many of EC Henry's Star Wars designs and ideas have spoiled me, but Star Wars has a certain design language and art style that almost none of these images properly emulate. "A long time ago . . ." is not just lip service. It informs how everything looks and feels; it's all lived in and familiar to us. An example would be that a lot of the blasters in the original trilogy are real WWI and WWII firearms with bits and bops bolted on their receivers. Of course these are just prototypes, I know that, but they look very anocranistic to the setting. They look too much like Gundam or Halo designs. They're too sleek, with many odd jagged edges. The few times Star Wars does do sleek designs (like the Naboo ships) the design is very simple.

There's also too many acronyms. The MC might not care for the Tarkin Doctrine of fear, but the rest of the imperials serving him don't know that. They generally have a very aggressive naming sense for their designs and prototypes: TIE Shadow, TIE Aggressor, Dark Troopers, Shadow Troopers, Death Star, Executor Super Star Destroyer, you get me?

I don't know if these are what you believe they're supposed to look like or just an approximation since you can't find the exact image your looking for. I'm not expecting you to draw it yourself or for you to commission artwork for a fanfiction, but these is just something that personally irks me. I'd have honestly preferred if you hadn't included any images since it kinda ruins the immersion for me, but I'm willing to admit others may not share the same likes and dislikes as me and they may not see any issue or even enjoy the artwork accompanying your work.

Yeah, I felt the same way. None of those things looked like they belonged in the Star Wars universe. A couple of them looked like some designer from Halo, Mass Effect, or Destiny trying to imitate an aspect of the Stormtrooper aesthetic, but even those just fell flat because the details and design language were just plain wrong.
