Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

I'm still supportive of accidentally making a mirror version of the dark trooper project. Even if it's only used for his bodyguard detail. You know a 12 man unit mirroring the starfighter squadron numbers. Probably costing that much too. But deadly enough people go Oh S..t like seeing the equally deadly and horribly expensive droidikas. Except possibly more so since dark trooper mark 2 and 3s may be more deadly. The mark 3 used phrik as a substitute beskar like material instead of droidika like shields. But with the larger 8 feet mark 2 or 12 feet mark 3, the suits may be sufficiently shielded to avoid the radiation problem that prevented effective shielding on normal trooper armor in their current era. Clone commando armor is the closest example of this with the katarn class armor that was too expensive for standard troopers but also had limited shields to avoid killing the troopers. You'll notice their armors were especially thick. Anyways. I liked the concept of dark troopers as a concept balanced by their extreme price.
Spartan mjolnir armor in halo is a similar example of ludicrously high costs and thus extremely limited numbers in a interstellar military at max budget availability.

I'd like to see his mother's reaction when she finds out he's been injured. Will she be worried for him? Angry at those who harmed him? Disappointed in him for getting hurt in the first place? All of the above?

Really digging this story, one of the best Star Wars ones out there.

his arch-nemesis local homeless force sensitive psyker kid (got to protect them from the empire, so they are labeled as a psyker in all official docs.) who thinks the governor is trying to abduct them for a government experiment (he's not, he just wants to prevent inquisition or Vader to show up. at most, it would be exile to a farm for the kid.).
And this is an idea! Create a Scholastia Psykana and introduce new trained psykers to the army staff. Obi-Wan would be perplexed by such a move.
No. It's a bad idea. Too much attention from the Grand Inquisitor and the numbered Brothers and Sisters.

…medical tech is so freaking weird in Star Wars. Right now today, we can grow small patches of skin to replace burned or otherwise missing 'material.'

Maybe this gives another R&D hole to throw money down? Medical tech. Cloned skin/organs, better medicine…

Might be able to convince some Arkanian doctors / bio-engineers or perhaps some Kaminoans to set up a medical facility which would do cloned skin grafts to replace heavily damaged burned skin/tissue. Do a good enough job on this and Darth Vader might eventually become a patron for the place, especially if it helps out Imperial troops and Clone Wars veterans with combat acquired injuries.

TftC!

Will anyone even tell his Mother? I feel that in this scenario, telling his Mom he nearly got assassinated is kinda on the back burner at the moment until they have something to show for it.

Though, I get the funky feeling that when his Sisters learn of his near death (particularly the Spook) they'll be proper pissed off. Maybe.

Maybe it was Saw Garera and his cell. His people truly believe all imperial must be eliminated, no matter who
The worst part is that in the Disney verse, he won. The New Republic is erasing everything empire-related from History, to the point where they use imperial torture engines to brainwash/lobotomize former imperial members.

Getting Kaminoans to settle anywhere near the empire is going to be difficult after the destruction of their homeworld by them. But the payoff would be big, with many veterans being in the system when Palpatine does a freedive into the core.

I can't wait until the Spy Sister finds out, and becomes inordinately annoyed at herself, the highly competent and skilled Imperial Intelligence agent, having been caught nearly instantly, but some random ass nobody managing a nearly successful assassination attempt. :V

The saboteur will have a ridiculously hard time, he will be wanted on the surface (the empire) and underground (the rebel cell from Minda)

and perhaps mando mercs too who want their payday to live.
nothing more annoying than doing a job and not getting paid , soo someone is in for a world of hurt.

Is she even allowed to change these projects. he said he's paying for them out of his own pocket, which means these are privately owned so even if he's incapable on decisions making it would be his next if kin or business partner that would be allowed to issue orders

rather something like " shame he didn't die"

The same sisters who have no problem with their mother wanting to kill him? and are even willing to help their mother?
(After all, it was said that if he tried to escape they would hunt him down and bring him to this murderous bitch)
I strongly doubt that they will be upset or that they care about it

From what we've been shown the three of them and he were raised by different parents (the sisters by the mother and the son by the father) untill joining the academy, which means that the crazy had time to spread and taint the view of their brother due to all the inane shit that's happening in the imperial system, just look at the Galactic Empire & First Order gear difference on wiki, how many upgrades could've been made rather easily but were not due to the inbred imbecills that refuse to make better stuff and instead pocket the credits by inflating the costs (empire inherited EVERYTHING from the republic, including the corruption)

She can. This was an assassination attempt of the highest government authority. As the second-highest authority in the system, Kaela is in charge until Las recovers.

Personally I think it was executed as more a conventional criminal plot than a Rebel one. Sabotaging an R&D project to kill an up and coming governor seems like a gig the criminal underworld would post.

Funnily for all the contacts Las has (sometimes unintentionally) cultivated in the Minda system, a criminal network isn't one of them. Unlike a lot of Imperial governors, Las doesn't have "arrangements" with the local larger criminals. Minda has a strict and actually enforced criminal code. A rarity in the Outer Rim.

Question is who is the employer for the enterprising criminal? It would have to be someone who could whip up forged credentials from the core worlds. Could be criminal organizations like Crimson Dawn in revenge for clamping down on smuggling and piracy. Or an Imperial rival who thinks Imperial politics is a net zero game and thinks having Minda go from bottom of the heap to 7th in the Sector is a threat.
Burns covered his body extensively. While the bacta would deal with all of the actual injuries and he would turn out perfectly healthy, the scars would forever mar his body. Especially the burns on his face. Covering the left side of his face was a burn that stretched over his eye and left ear, but never reached his hair.
It is going be amusing that Las is going to look like a scary villain, but actually be beloved by his subordinates and constituents. The guy that looks like he tried kissing a speeder thruster is the relatively nicest governor in the sector.

Heck is could be somone targeting Las because of something his mother or one of his sisters did as considering how far they advanced in the Imperial ranks, one of Tarkin's top subordinates, an ISD captain, Military Intelligence operative and top ace they all likey made enemies that while reluctant to go after them directly may be more willing to go after Las who is the family blacksheep and in charge of some no name planet in the Outer rim

For all they spoke of hope, their greatest weapon was the cruelty and incompetence of their enemies. For every city the empire clamped down on, they gained supporters. For every system exploited, they gained a cell. Some cells even incited those atrocities themselves. Disgusting, even if she understood the reasoning.
So what she is totally fine with the Rebellion getting innocent people killed by the Empire if it gets them people to join them?

Maybe its the sector admiral. he'd have the resources and connections to pull this off while also having a grudge against us for solving the piracy problem before he can come in and reap the glory of a huge takedown. i totally see an ambitious admiral willing to assasinate a meddeling planetary governor of a rimworld shithole.

it doesn't say shes fine with it, just that she understood. For example, when you read a news article that says a guy killed his wife when he found her cheating on him with another guy. you would probably not agree with the act of murder, but you probably understand why he did that

You have obviously never visited a Battletech story forum. There are thousands of pages arguing the littlest of details. Not including all the other mech stories. I was actually surprised they only took under 5 pages worth of it.

So, to summarize my thoughts on who it could be,
Rebels-unlikely, system is important supply base.
IM- No, hasn't done anything to get their ire.
Zann-No, why endanger a cash cow?
Random pirates-Same situation
Disgruntled Imperial- High likelihood, Rest of family is high ranking and made loads of enemies, along with sidelining a bunch of their classmates, he's also a easy target.

Most importantly of all is the execution, it was sloppy, and an attempt to appear accidental. This isn't a professional, but it is someone who doesn't want to be linked to it.

My guess would be Corporate. This was a case of Industrial Espionage and Sabotage. Las has Got to have ruffled feathers with his policies, not to mention the inventions that his system is currently producing and manufacturing, such as the Pads, hitting the core, mid and outer rims like wildfire it seems.
This could easily be a case of not just espionage, but also an assassination so that whatever corporate entity set this up could put in their own puppet governor and do a hostile corporate takeover of the system, seizing all the patents, mining rights and engineers.

Everything to make a mobile suit already exist in Star Wars. From repulser tech to make the MS-09 Dom, the balance system from an AT-ST. AAT had the option of having shield generators on the tank as well as having powerful enough reactors to power the weapons, repulsers and basic systems.

The Scorpenek Annihilator Droids had Powerful Shields, high powered laser cannons, and a powerful reactor to power all that in a thin frame, so size is not the problem. The cost is said to be high but that can easily be fixed by not using that special shield the Annihilator Droid used. Annihilator Droid shield was a bubble shield made to protect ground troops, the droid and provide one way firing. A MS could have a surface type shield instead of the bubble shield. We know from Star Wars KOTOR moving limbs or parts don't interfere with shields.

Size differences could range from 4m tall (Knightmare Frames), Armored Core 7m tall, Mobile Suits from the Gundam series can be from 10m to any size up. Force Lances, Force Pikes could be used for the MS in the place of Heat Weapons or maybe plasma cutters. Star Wars has enough special metal types to make a Gundam if that is the direction one wanted to go for the definition. Or the MS could go the Code Geass route and go 1st gen to 7th gen each one newer better mass-produced modal.

Honestly, it would not surprise me if this was corporate espionage.

My opinion?
Unlikely.
He's a no-name Governor of a small system, he's not even in the edge of any big corporate sphere, and smaller corps wouldn't have the stones, resources, and skills to do it, and create a false identity that through.
