Governor's Gambit - Star Wars SI into Imperial Governor

Aside from that, it's ground vehicle time! Upcoming issues on Edin and beyond will force Las to upgrade his ground forces. Thankfully, by the time that happens, he will be much richer. This, of course, means that the name of the game will be quality over quantity(though quantity is still appreciated). Effective ground vehicles, be they cannon, fannon, or just cool concept art like the Storm Walker is all appreciated and will be taken into serious consideration. Prolly cause I read every comment like a madman.

Any feedback on where the story should go is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

Huh. Alright then, here's one.

Height: 5.3 Meters at full extension of legs
Width without Weapons: 3.9 meters wide
Length without Weapons: 3.5 meters long
Weight: 8.6 tons without payload
Locomotion: 2x 4-sectioned "Raptor Style" legs with 4-toed (3 forward 1 back) foot armatures, Reinforced Gyroscope
Engine: CV-28 Variable Fuel Cell Engine
Speed (Combat/Cruise): 63kph / 101kph
Armor: Universal 45mm Durasteel Alloy with 13mm Flexisteel underlayer on the chassis, 27mm and 10mm respectively on the legs
Payload: 3x SIHW mounts (currently protoyping, one on each "Cheek" and one on the "Chin")
Currently Available Weapons (1 per SIHW):
---1x Tri-Barrel E-Web Blaster
---1x TIE Fighter Laser Cannon
---1x Heavy Flex-Fuel Combat Sprayer (Napalm standard load)
---1x Mobile Artillery Flex-Feed 53mm Automatic Grenade Launcher, 70 grenade payload
---1x Starfighter-scale Concussion Missile Launcher with 4 Missiles
---1x Crowd Control Wide Area Stun Cannon
---1x "Goresaw"
---Crew and Passengers: 1x Pilot, 1x Optional Copilot, Experimental Cybernetic Uplink (unnecessary, but used here for testing"
---Amenities: Lvl 1 HEV Sealing, Chemical Toilet, 1 Week of Rations and Air Supply for crew

Notes:
---The Nexu is an attempt to simplify supply lines with a "good enough" combat ready walker. More expensive than some, less expensive than others
---The Variable Fuel Cell Engine is a completed prototype that mounts 3x 60kg removable "cells" in the rear-underside of the walker. These cells are entirely self contained and can use anything from processed oil to straight batteries, converting them to power without touching the engine. Has cpleted prototyping, but needs field testing.
---Combat Speed is maximum maintainable pace under combat maneuvers. Cruise is maximum speed while traveling in a strategic capacity.
---Armor package is currently capable of resisting 1x Infantry-scale Concussion Missile to any single point of the legs, and 2-3 to any part of the chassis. Plating is kept universally thick in order to simplify production and provide tactical utility, allowing any facing to be presented to the enemy without showing weakness. Also makes it mine resistant.
---The SIHW (Standard Imperial Heavy Weapon mount is a completed prototype that uses up-amored and simplified mountings along with a somewhat excessive weight allocation to allow for quick and easy swapping of payloads to suit the mission.
---The "Goresaw" is a double-bladed rotary vibro-saw mounted on a 3-sectioned combat-specced armature, with each blade spinning in opposition to the other. It is intended for destroying fortifications, clearing terrain, and big game killing on more dangerous worlds.

Well that was fucking terrifying. Whatever those things were, rakghouls or Blackwing zombies although I'm leaning towards the former myself given the mutations and all that, I'm more than a little worried about the fact those pirates had apparently set up shop right on top of the horde's cave. Either they somehow didn't know about those damned things until after they'd built their base, or the pirates had a hand in their creation, whether accidentally or otherwise. Honestly though, the first option is more terrifying because that means either an Empire created project was sealed up and left where they hopefully wouldn't ever be discovered, or someone was hoping for a galaxy wide outbreak, leaving those things there in the hopes they'd escape the planet and spread from there.

That aside, at least the Ghost crew are about to land on Minda. That'll be exciting lol.

Chp-28: R&D Interlude New
Chp-28: R&D Interlude

Military Development Department Supervisor Yop Calio
Minda System, Ugea, Accordia, Imperial Island, R&D Laboratories

Things had been rough for the past few weeks. Their freedoms had been nearly entirely revoked, with only the sims left to play around with.

Make no mistake, Minda had far better conditions than all but the cushiest corporate labs, and even those were pushed by pure profit.

Here, they had been given a blank cheque and told to go all in. What they never realized was that in the pursuit of their technological dreams, they forgot to check their corners. When the governor had nearly died because of an infiltrator they had failed to catch, and who had only succeeded because they had rushed their projects, well.

The whole lab was lucky they weren't executed for incompetence.

A knock on his office door dragged him from his mind.

"Yop? Its Hry, I wanted to talk about a project?"

Yop sighed. He figured this would come at some point. "Come on in, then"

The doors slid open, and in walked a bulky pantoran. Hry was still relatively young, at about 23 years of age. He had studied engineering in his family's factory since he was incredibly young, and had dreams of building a variety of things since then.

He had been hired to the Mindan R&D team after leaving a corporate lab unsatisfied with his work. He had been here only a week, and was now encountering the same problem that they all had.

"I just…I wanted to talk about the sims. We're allowed to make simulated projects to test, but is there any way to get them approved for actual research and later production? That was the vibe I got from the recruitment ad at least."

Yop refrained from sighing, not wanting to demoralize the new recruit. "I was afraid this would come up. You see, the ad didn't lie, but it was also put out a few months ago. You see, around a month ago, we rushed multiple powered armor and light walker designs that we had been making on our own time into production. They were not ready, but we had gotten overzealous and wasted a significant portion of the budget on them before we stopped ourselves. When we tried to show them off as proof of concept, a saboteur took the opportunity to try and assassinate the governor with a bomb hidden on a prototype."

Hry's eyes were wide at this point. "We could've caught on if we had been more careful, taken more time, and been more cautious. But we weren't. You see, a lot of the people in the labs here are those who have incredible ideas and monumental skills. The kinds of people who have been studying and designing a set few projects almost their entire lives. One of the canceled prototypes, the A.E.G.I.S, was one of our engineers' life's work. She has been working on that suit of powered armor for the past 15 years, studying and learning, just so she could make one high mobility suit of combat armor. A dream she had had since she was inspired by some children's show."

"And now we can't do that, can we?" asked Hry, understanding glimmering in his eyes.

"No…no we can't" Yop responded. "Despite the massive amount of skill and resources and the sheer lack of restrictions as to how we develop the projects put in front of us, what we make is now restricted. At least we get things finished faster now. The TIE program had been developing steadily for nearly 6 months now, yet by putting all our efforts, and many sleepless nights, we were able to get functioning, safe prototype designs out just a month after the incident."

Hry's eyes widened. "That's…that's absurd! Ship development takes far longer than that! Not to mention the cost, the amount of custom parts, the testing…how?"

The older researcher chuckled, amused at the newbie's astonishment. "A combination of massive funds, incredible skill, logistical redundancies, and a healthy dose of fear. The governor essentially gives us as close to a blank cheque as he can, all our technicians and researchers and engineers are incredibly skilled, the TIE line has a massive amount of parts to draw from to reduce the workload, and we were all scared shitless thinking that if we didn't produce something worthwhile fast, the governor would have us killed when he woke up."

Another chuckle. "'Course, he didn't. Governor Mola may be young, younger than you even, but he's got a good head on his shoulder and works real hard. Every time I see him, he's got work in his hands and bags under his eyes."

Hry chuckled with him, but it petered off. "Does that mean…that we'll never get to use our personal projects again?"

"I don't know, kid." said Yop, mood souring. "I really hope so, but the governor only woke up a few weeks ago, and then there was the whole debacle with The Crowns, and now he has an entire new system to manage."

Seeing the newbie's mood falling, Yop perked himself up. As a supervisor, it was his job to keep team morale up! "But, I bet that if we can succeed with the TIE project, and keep both the StormTrooper armor and the LECA suits well researched, then we might be able to start petitioning the Governor for the ability to work on personal projects again. We'll probably need more evidence that the projects can work, and more approval, but still. The possibility is there. We just need to grasp it."

That seemed to life the Pantoran's spirits. "Thanks, Director. I just…I came here for a better chance, you know? More opportunities. Felt like I was lied to, but it's nice to hear that there's hope, ey? I've gotta go now, the LECA team is working on refining the current module line up."

"Of course, Hry. Don't let me keep you."

As Hry left, Yop couldn't help but smile.

They had messed up, but there was a path to redemption. A chance to push forward.

They just had to grasp it.

Hi there folks! Shorter little thing here, just felt like I hadn't expanded on the R&D team, or why they are just so damn fast. As shown above, they like to rush. Alot. While things like better software and the like are easy for them, the mecha projects were rushed prototypes, and while TIE variants seem to be coming out quicker, they really put their all into them. Also, the TIE variants are not in full production. Even with The Crowns put down for good and Minda back up and running, it will take time for both the designs to be refined, and the factories to be built. The only produced TIE's are the retrofits. No Rangers, Patrollers, or Whirlwinds just yet, outside of a select few testing versions. R&D has learned their lesson, and are taking their time.

The only reason the LECA's are being used is because they are simple enough to produce and design compared to entire starfighters and the like. Because they were the most simple of the mech projects, their prototypes ended up being the most stable. A few weeks of tweaks and the like, and a solid 30 or so were ready for use in Kaelas Kill'em All operation. Sure, there are definite tweaks and upgrades and refinements to be made, but their basically scaled up droids mixed with scaled down walkers, and none of the elements that made either difficult to make. That is, a droid's AI or a walker's mass.

Also, for the StormTrooper armor I showed in the last chapter, that is not the power armor variant spoken about during the tech expo chapter. It's the modified version that is being produced on the orders of Kaela after she explained to the techs that their version was overengineered. This suit has better protection and more advanced tech than regular armor, but has no powered exoskeleton like the original concept. Just better armor with more gadgets.

All in all, I wrote this to stave off my Project Stardust addiction. It's a surprisingly well made fleet battle game on roblox that has a ship unlock tree for like half a dozen franchises. From Star Wars to Yamato to Battlestar Galactica, it has it all. But, if your like me, your stuck grinding 10 mil xp for the Tier V Onager and crying all the way because these FUCKING PLEBS keep voting for close range brawler maps, and all the ships leading to the Onager are MISSLE BOATS that need to be FAR AWAY. Shit pisses me off.

As always, feedback on the story's future is highly appreciated. Also, for some reason, was struck with the urge to write a PJO mercenary fic based about a OC-SI merc who does work for the magical human underground. Let me know if that sounds interesting, cause its really just like a two line description right now.

Thanks for reading.

They need flamethrowers if zombies are going to be an issue in his territory almost any flavor of zombie in star wars (startling amount of to be honest)
would be much easier to deal with if they had a flamethrowers and droids maybe a variant of the BX Commando droid to put something between the people that can be infected and the infection.

That at least was downright wholesome by comparison to the last chapter lol. It's nice to see the R&D folks getting another chance to shine despite everything that's occurred.

Now if only the new co-op story me and @crystalwatcher are doing would get some love lol.

That aside, @Freefaller, did you see the message we left for you at the end of the first chapter? Just hoping to make sure there isn't a problem or anything like that is all.

They should have just given R&D the decision to how the saboteur died for causing those restrictions. I'm sure they'd find something inventively Imperial (aka cruel and unusual) for him.

https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Vd89gX this would work really well as is or you could replace the two outer guns with multi missile pods like the LRM 10 from battletech or similar if you want. Maybe even have them be short range for urban areas if you want to have them be stationed in cities so your not leaving so much range for them unused.
And yes you are definitely going to need flamethrowers alot of flamethrowers, also might be a good idea to have R&D start working on making inferno missiles so you can slap them onto your ground vehicles.

So quick question, but does the Minda system have some type of general arms training for its employees? It may give the scientist and other functionaries some knowledge of what the troops that they are planing to build for and supply are facing. It would also be a great boon for any pirate raid or invasion of Minda.

Zombies are a simple but effective tool. Sith loved them cause they were an easy and fast way to get some disposable meatshields while undermining your enemy at the same time. Not surprising there were multiple versions.

nice chapter. for tanks maybe something like the wraith from halo? whatever it is. he needs flamethrowers and plasma weapons. for the next ark maybe the purchase of the third system or the sector?

Well that was interesting, not sure if it's Rakghoul. I'm pretty sure it's something else. Rakkghoul look different from what little is described here, they don't visually have eyes and have spines on their head and have skin. It sounds like something I'd expect of a Sith project, but it seems weird for a group of pirates to operate with.

There are some on coruscant among other things there are magic zombies, sith zombies, biological zombies, rakghouls, a hive mind that is a zombie plague, Imperial bioweapons Project I71A, geonosian brain worms and I'm pretty sure I'm not remembering them all

At minimum need APCs/IFVs or even better use the LA-AG or even LAAT gunships to blast the zombies from the air. Keep doing that until the MC's bigger ships can come in and blast the area with bigger turbolasers. When dealing with zombies in SW, limited BDZ (orbital bombardments of areas) are kind of necessary. My guess it's something like left over Sith Empire shit that broke out of containment.

After burning the area, maybe put up some durasteel plating with chunks of stone/space concrete blocks behind them to create a killbox around that cave entrance/exit. Make the walls 20ft+ (~6.5m+) tall and add some heavy E-webs to hose down any extra zombies coming out, while waiting for the heavy flamethrowers and/or thermal detonators.

TftC!

Going into areas where bombardment isn't available is also typically a thing that the plot (force) will make happen like critical infostructure like power and food production or major population centers (if you don't want to go full imperial) and having shock troopers that can't be infected will be critical

I wouldn't call it easy. Sure it gets easy once it's gets set up. But the sheer amount of knowledge needed to create it in the first place is on the higher scale.

Upcoming issues on Edin and beyond will force Las to upgrade his ground forces.
Your next update was certainly fast.

Hi there folks! Shorter little thing here, just felt like I hadn't expanded on the R&D team, or why they are just so damn fast.
Well, you know what they say, chaos is a ladder. With that mess that will likely escalate planetwide on Edin, as well as that confirmation from Freefaller,
They had messed up, but there was a path to redemption. A chance to push forward.

They just had to grasp it.
...Minda's R&D will have their chance to shine once more. Do well, and I'm sure that the local Imperial Army and Stormtroopers will praise their efforts, thus reopening doors that were closed before, provided there are proper procedures and protocols in place for security and safety.

I always loved the BX's with those shields, so cool.

If you're okay using fannon what about just ripping vehicles from other settings like The siege tank is a terran vehicle that can be configured to fulfill both the armored support and the long-range artillery support roles.

or what about something like the BuCue it can switch between tank and walker, it has a modular weapons system so it can fill any purpose that's needed and is capable of in atmosphere flight

Ah you'll get you're opportunity once the whole zombie crap comes to light. Also once Edina been decriminalize ( decriminalize as you can with a pirate/criminal infested planet) you'll get prob twice the budgets then from pre sabotage.

It's at this point that I cut in, for two reasons. "Don't worry about the cost" I say "I'll be supplying the funding from my personal accounts to acquire the tech needed." This was the perfect opportunity! A way to dump more money! Of course, I'm not just doing it for that. Part of the reason is the look that the Commander has on her face. It went from a giddy smile to the look of a kicked puppy in seconds.

Why does she have a kicked puppy expression? Wouldn't she be happy that he's ordering more of these things?

You missed the whole complaint mountain a few chapters back. None of these has the aesthetics that Star Wars need them to be authentic or feel something that can "spawn" in-verse.

Why does she have a kicked puppy expression? Wouldn't she be happy that he's ordering more of these things?
Because she wanted the prototype super power armor but was told it was too expensive. Then she was super happy when Las gave the approval to continue the funding.
Many of the internal features are possible, but still being developed, and we actually can't afford to produce many of the planned pieces here."
"Ah, thank you sir!" exclaimed Yop, clearly excited about the continuation of this project. Oblivious to Grant's heavy breathing, and the wild eyes she was staring at me with.

Not gonna lie, that sounds like it'd be damn cool. I'm imagining someone like Harry Dresden living in the PJO-verse, doing jobs across pantheon lines that no one wants to talk about, like setting up new lives for the human partners of gods that are in danger or dealing with rogue demigods.
