Imgur to Soon Execute a Purge of NSFW and Anon images

I only learned about this yesterday, does anyone know a good way to download a metric ton of reddit posts and imgur albums/pics? And from threads here?
 
Thanks for the heads up. Sadly it didn't really surprise me, which is why I didn't have that much NSFW stuff there to begin with. Will move the necessary files now.
 
I found two things for it called gallery-dl and RipMe2. Does anyone know if these work well or not?

Been around for most of a decade now and usually works. There were claims they were hosting viruses a while back, from what I can tell that came down to doing business with sketchy porn add providers in like 2017. One of the few places that politically sensitive stuff doesn't get banned off, so, you'll have that canary for the smut.

(yes you have to make an account there, though I won't be surprised that some of y'all already have years ago)

The idea is that it's a place to organize there all the while individuals can upload/host the more spicy pics on their own profiles (which no one ever checks, the only people I ever seen getting banned are for outright harassing others).
 
By the way, for anyone using imgur to host, imgur is likely to delete all anonymous and NSFW images (and their bot/algorithm is likely to trigger on many pictures that aren't even NSFW). So you'll want to keep backups/download all of your images.

SOme people may also not know this, but there is an option to download EVERY imgur image your account has ever posted.

Go to SETTINGS. ANd on the bottom right, there is a "DOWNLOAD ACCOUNT IMAGES" option. This will download all of your images after a few minutes of the page zipping them. If you have A LOT Of images, best to have a very good connection. You don't want it to break midway if you've got dozens of gigabytes to download.
I can confirm having downloaded 90 gigs worth of imgur images for example. It works.

And this is before getting into the problem that my goddamn short-attention prone ass never bothered to name my private galleries, so now I have a couple dozen unnamed imgur zips with duplicate tagging and I will now have to go through the absolute pain that is opening each one and identifying duplicate zips, because I was so paranoid I started to double-download my galleries!

Not really the banks themselves, or more specifically the payment-processors. They only care about their income, it is just that they are being (succesfully) pressured by certain groups that are the moral busybodies.

Not going any further than this though for risk of it devolving into rule 8.
 
A lot of quests and threads here, old and new alike, use Imgur to host various relevant images, especially in the NSFW section. Imgur is doing a ToS change on the 15th to nuke all NSFW content and all old uploads made by users who weren't logged in. Can staff please make a sitewide announcement in the announcements bar or something to remind OPs and other media posters to rehost their stuff elsewhere if they haven't already?

As regards images posted here, QQ rehosts all hotlinked images to its own server. So images taken down by Imgur should remain visible in the quests where they're posted.

Does it? Because a quest I followed a year or two back had most of its previously-working image hotlinks broken, specifically all the ones that pointed at img2.gelbooru.com, so if the same thing happens with imgur, it's going to actually break things.

alethiophile - is the supposed immunity to hotlink-breaking a new thing? Because I've also definitely seen hotlinks on QQ break - the Would You Hit It thread and the General QQ CYOA thread both have staggering quantities of used-to-be-working-but-now-broken hotlinks.
 
The immunity to hotlink breaking should have started a few years ago. I'm not sure exactly when, but it was sometime 2020 or after.

Until then, the image cache was configured to periodically refresh from the source URL (as per the default), which rather defeated the point.

Figured the latter was the likely culprit of the breaking I saw. Thanks for the info on the former.

All this does is just immediately download a tiny 11kb zip file. Actually Imgur won't download anything for me at all even if I try and download a single image. Is anyone else having this problem right now or is it just my account that's fucked up?
 
well, looks like Imgur has decided to commit financial suicide ( AKA destroying it own market value)

Sorry. I don't know what your issue is.

I know it worked two and a half weeks ago since i downloaded everything then.

And I downloaded a separate album of 100 mb a week ago.

Maybe they started fucking with the code in preparation for the purge?
