On a Pale Horse (Umamusume/Youjo Senki)

She does eat at the cafeteria most of the time, since the tuition is paid for, and Tazuna will yell at her if she doesn't eat enough.
Chad Tazuna doing the Three Goddesses work. After all, if it was up to Shiro she won't eat enough.

It's not that Shiro avoids eating, it's that she seems used to less food than necessary and if not almost ordered too would probably eat just a little more than usual, which is a problem with her very active lifestyle. Especially if she wants to race both the Tiaras and the Crowns.

Edit:
Holy crap. Did Shiro just flirt with Tazuna?!?! That guy does seem to be her type.
No, Tazuna is the secretary to the director, not this guy. And also no to the flirting. If there actually was flirting then it was most likely unintended. Shiro isn't the type of person to flirt with anybody when meeting them for the first time.

And if the guy really is Shiro from her first life, then he also likely didn't flirt. Guy didn't seem the type to do this. Also Shiro literally just finished middle school while the guy had an graduation ceremony the day that Hana first saw Shiro.

There is an age-gap to consider.

Wasn't it already know that Uma are reincarnations? And they semi remember their days as a giant animal thing. But none of them really worry too much about it because Uma Brain.

"Guys, I think Shirogane may have been Reincarnated."
"You idiot, we've all been reincarnated!"
"Oh yeah…"
Only Neo Universe and Stay Gold explicitly know, with Stay Gold having the memories of her horse counterpart and Neo Universe being able to view the multiverse. Marvelous Sunday knows what a horse IS and has befriended them (by way of inter-dimensional travel I Am Not Making This Up), and Gold Ship MIGHT know what a horse is.

I've a similar problem with Discord, the chat system accepts line spaces via enter as valid, but enter is also the post button.

So anytime I need to put in a line space in Discord I just type it up into WordPad, and copy it over.

Silly that, since in the mobile app for Discord the button for posting, and the keyboard app return/enter key, have seperated functions.

One of the few times the mobile app of a program is superior to the original.
It's always funny to see the crazy ass solutions people have. Shift+enter lets you do linebreaks without posting.

Also the fact you said Tazuna is constantly keeping check on Shiro's diet, is making me feel like Tazuna and possibly the Director is monitoring her, whenever she eats in the cafeteria
It's probably more them logging the card swipes and making sure she is using the cafeteria on schooldays. For most other students they don't really have to worry about this since they naturally tend to follow their classmates around or can't resist the amount of food there. Shirogane being a loner is a bit unusual.

The real question, is when does Shiro hear about the dirt races and the fact that you can get middle east oil money level prizes out of them once you go international.
If you're talking about the Saudi Cup then that won't be around during Shirogane's running career since that was started in 2020. Though Shirogane will probably do a stint in Poland for a variety of reasons.

Something interesting about Shiro's races is that even if she doesn't win, she's likely going to make an impact on the results. Between her intimidating persona causing early crashes and her hard pace making competitors push to her limits, she has a tendency to indirectly mess up racers, and that in turn will affect who comes out on top.
And the people that are likely to be least affected are her classmates and friends, since they are more used to having her around, which can potentially lead to Shirogane essentially gatekeeping races from non-Tracen students. That might be a funny narrative with her getting labeled a suicide runner for the whole school.

... I recall someone saying that gamblers would like Shiro for being a constant stable choice, only for someone to counter that they'd probably hate her then, since they'd prefer the risk and the chance at greater reward she wouldn't provide.
There's a bit of a range of gamblers. People that do it for the thrill will not be interested in betting on Shirogane, though they might like her races since her presence has a trend of shuffling the expected results. On the other hand, there is a bit of a thing in Japan where losing a bet can bring good luck, something like controlled misfortune, so people will intentionally make bets that are likely to lose. This is part of why Haru Urara was so popular, so Shirogane would be fairly popular with this subset since she usually performs well but isn't as likely to win.

Bookies would be the group here that would dislike her, since her presence makes setting the odds more difficult.

It like seeing a male and female version of the same person talking to each other isn't it
Hana: "Oh no, now there are two of them!"

It also throws her for a loop that Shirogane says something vaguely flirtatious which seems very out of character. Shirogane is more making light of a common phenomenon for male trainers but it can come across as flirting. Hana also knows her cousin is very oblivious, so is surprised the two of them seem to get along so well.

I think it's absolutely hilarious, and perfect, that she hasn't noticed that it's odd how similar Tensei's worldview is to hers. Just a sensible young man, absolutely nothing else going on here.
To be fair, it's not like they're going to be talking about their worldviews that much when they just met. It's more that both of them have a bit of a detached way of observing the world so there isn't as much misunderstanding as what often happens to them with other people.

Wasn't it already know that Uma are reincarnations?
I'm pretty sure that's a meta explanation given to us viewers in the anime, not a commonly known thing in-universe. We only have a handful of examples of uma that do know, and even then the degree varies.
There seems to be some understanding that Umas are affected by some kind of fate, but there is no general knowledge of them being reincarnated horses specifically.
Don't forget that reincarnation is a commonly held Buddhist belief that roughly a third of Japan identifies with. It's very rare that Uma actually remember their past lives.
And yeah, reincarnation is a generally held belief among a significant segment of the population, so the thinking that they inherit something from their past lives wouldn't be too out there.

Now that I look back, I think Shiro is the only one who really talks about her family in conversation.
There are a few umas who bring up their family a fair bit.

I think Eishin Flash is the one who does it the most, and funny enough her goals are vaguely similar to Shirogane in the sense she plans on retiring at a specific point then go back to her family shop. You the trainer actually meet her parents in one of her stories.

Air Groove has a scene where you meet her mother, who does her best to embarass her, and from the looks of it their relationship is fairly close.

Special Week and Mihono Bourbon also seem quite close to their parents (adoptive in Special Week's case).

King Halo is the only one I remember where they have a specifically bad relationship with their parent, and this was inspired by her jockey's relationship with his mother.

But yeah most of them don't seem to have their parents too involved, at least from the point of view of the trainer.

With that in mind, it would be interesting not only if Shiro was in that situation, but how she'd react to someone else in that situation, where they choose the race. I get the feeling that she wouldn't be impressed, viewing it less as something noble and more as being a glory hound.
I don't think Shirogane would view it negatively, depending on the situation. If it's a chronic or more long term illness then she wouldn't think too much of it, since running is something like their job and more money can potentially help with affording treatment. If the relative is imminently dying then yeah she would find it rather odd for them to not be with their family.

Ha, I like to picture Hana looking back and forth between her cousin and Shirogane, faintly puzzled as she watches the two least sociable people she knows click. It's like Shiro time travelled and befriended her younger self... mostly because she kinda did. Does it count as forming a human connection with someone if it's yourself from 2-3 lives and/or alternate universes ago? :V

You can definitely see some bad habits trying to form with some of the other girls from comparing themselves to Shirogane and trying to overtrain, though they were distracted at least. Her poor classmates getting hit with the values difference. They want to talk about the race and not being invited and Shiro's just kinda "oh yeah, that did happen. Saw my family though, that was nice."

Oh ok, you may have forgotten since it was last year, but a doctor actual talks about it in the first chapter.
The doctor did not find anything physically wrong with her, just that she slept irregularly, often waking up at sudden noises, which wasn't good for her health. In the end, he theorized that since some Umamusume have more clear memories of their previous incarnation, little Shirogane might have had a more stressful past life, making her more sensitive to sudden changes in her environment
So you might want to have that guy disappeared for disclosing hidden lore to the public.

Aha, the Tanya Smile. Also, S2 was announced 6 days ago so this is the best time too.

Imagining Tanya singing that first concert song and probably a lot more. HAH, it's entertaining.

I am picturing her singing Meni Shuki Rush LOL
