Chapter 31 New
His mind was quickly recovering, though it still felt as if he was looking at everything through a thick fog in comparison to how he usually felt.

Staring at Jeannie who was sitting on the ground, back leaned against the wall, her eyes a dull colour and a dazed expression on her face, Alan felt soft relief slowly start coursing through his body as the terror slowly started subsiding.

'Fuck… fuck fuck fuck, that was dangerous, that was so fucking scary. What if it noticed something or it killed me or…. This was the dumbest decision that I've ever made in my fucking life. Go get stoned, get drugged up, and I was feeling so god damn overconfident too. Ten intelligence my ass, im a fucking dumbass, im dumb as fucking bircks.' Alan thought to himself as he quickly opened up his status panel.

'Status' The second he thought of the word, the blue holographic panel appeared before him.

Looking over his status screen, Alan felt his relief quickly intensify as his eyes moved up and down on the panel and thankfully he didn't see it.

'There's no possession, thank god. My theory that I need multiple doses was correct, but theres something else that's concerning… I'm in a semi complete intoxication and yet my intelligence stat got debuffed more than the others, is it just that the drugs drops the intelligence to one automatically when its in full effect, whilst when its just semi, it only halves it… thats why they could still remember somewhat what happened the last time.' Alan thought as he slowly realised what had actually happened.

Earlier during the day, the three of his friends had told him about remembering the good side effects of the drug, something they clearly wouldn't have been able to do if they had been in the current state that they were in.

'So it takes multiple doses, atleast two before someone gets into this… dazed state or whatever they're in and maybe even more but it depends on the persons body for the possession?' Alan thoughts continued before a soft headache started all around his head, it felt like his mind was being slowly squished.

'Hurts… just that much and I'm already hurting? Is it another side effect? Fuck, can't think. Let's just get the hell out of here.' Alan thought as he lifted his right hand and ran it through his hair for a moment before slowly getting up from the wooden armchair and walking towards the window.

Stopping at it for a moment, he looked down at Jeannie who was sat on the ground, basically unconscious and then at the two boys behind him in a similar state on the couches.

'Sorry… I would have called an ambulance or something if this was a normal situation… but I can't risk it.' Alan thought in his mind before releasing a soft sigh as he felt another pang of pain pierce through the side of his head.

Shaking the thoughts and slight guilt out of his mind, Alan put a hand on the window and vaulted over it and down onto the emergency stair case down below.

*Klang*

The sound of metal rattling was heard as he landed onto the metallic staircase, his vision a slight dazed blur for a moment before it refocused as he got up from his crouched landing position and quickly started heading down the stairs and onto the street below.

'Right, fuck. I'm atleast an hour away on foot from my apartment. I fucking forgot.' Alan thought to himself however he didn't even bother calling for anyone else, he knew a few people but he couldn't exactly trust them and they were just regular humans, humans that he didn't want to get involved into this mess that he had found himself in.

The other option was Alice Cullen and it was pretty clear as to why he didn't want to message the person who he knew with certainty wasn't a human and at the same time knew nothing about, didn't know her intentions, didn't know her alignment, or anything at all really. He barely knew a bit of her personality and even that could have been faked.

Walking down the road, his feet moving quickly, not quite running, he couldn't withstand that with his low strength, agility was usually the stat related to speed and running, however he had found that if one didn't have enough strength, they could barely even stand up, let alone run down the street.

*Sigh*

"Just get home and head into the dungeon, if im correct about my theory on me getting regenerated every time that I level up then I should be able to fully recover as soon as I level up and get rid of the drugs effects on me." Alan muttered under his breath as he kept speed walking whilst keeping his head down low, hoping to not gather any attention from anyone.

If anyone saw his face afterall, they'd instantly suspect something was wrong, his skin was pale, his pupils were wide and his sclera was bloodshot.

Chapter 32 New
Almost an hour later, the sun already starting to slowly fall down on the horizon, Alan finally arrived at his apartment, heading inside and closing the door quietly behind him, his mind still feeling like a fog, he walked towards his bed and laid down before opening up the system dungeon menu.

'System Dungeon.' He thought in his mind and instantly the holographic panel appeared before him.

[ System Dungeon ]

[ Dummy Dungeon ] [ Level 1 ] [ Join ]

[ ???? Dungeon ] [ Level 5 ]

[ ???? Dungeon ] [ Level 50 ]

[ ???? Dungeon ] ….

'Join' Alan thought and instantly without even moving his finger, the button was clicked as his vision similarly to the last time he had entered started darkining, his senses slowly dulling until he could see, hear, smell or feel anything at all in absolute darkness as if he was in a lightless space in the universe.

A mere moment later, his senses fully returned and he found himself back in the same position he had left the dungeon in, laid down on the green perfect grass, his face facing at the strange unnatural purple cloudless sky.

Slowly getting up, by using his hands as help, Alan remembered that he had forgotten his weapon before he had come inside the dungeon.

'Fuck, I wasn't even thinking.' Alan thought however at that moment as his mind went to it, something changed, a slight pressure appearing on the base of his palm and then a split second later, he felt something appearing in it, as his hand instinctively grasped it, feeling the small weight of the object.

[ Weapon: Rusted Bread Knife has been summoned ]

Looking at the small knife that had appeared out of thin air into his hand, Alan's eyes widened for a moment before a soft relieved sigh escaped him.

'Thank god, I didn't want to actually have to leave and come back here but I wouldn't have had a choice, defeating these things is already a pain in the ass with it, even though it only gives me a plus two boost to my damage, when my damage without it is two, its effectively a double boost to my damage.' Alan thought as he turned towards the closest Straw Dummy that he could find and walked towards it.

'Alright, Just need… to defeat four of them.' Alan thought, already feeling like his mind would explode from exhaustion before he even came close to it.

As he arrived infront of the dummy and raised his hand holding the knife, taking a deep breath for a moment and then releasing it as he swung downwards with all the strength he could and attacking directly towards the part that connected the head and torso of the straw dummy.

'Observe.' Alan thought as he used his skill instantly after the attack.

[ Straw Dummy ] [ Level 0 ]

[ Health points: 97/100 ]

'Three? Right, I'm not in top shape, even if my strength didn't actually get decreased, my body is too relaxed to actually use the strength that i have. It's why I had so much trouble even walking home. Fuck.'

Minutes passed, his right hand raising up and then falling down over and over again, the skin on his palms slowly turning raw from having to use all of his force to both grip the knife handle and swing down towards the dummies.

Almost fifteen minutes later, fifteen minutes that had felt like pure torture and immense exhaustion, he finally achieved it.

[ Ding! ]

[ User has defeated Straw Dummy. ]

[ 10 Experience Points Gained. ]

[ 1 Bronze Coin Looted. ]

'One… one down. Just three more to go.' Alan thought to himself as he slowly walked towards the next Straw Dummy, almost swaying on his feet, his footing feeling like he was on some kind of ship in the middle of a rainstorm in the sea.

The second Straw Dummy took even longer. Around twenty five minutes.

[ Ding! ]

[ User has defeated Straw Dummy. ]

'Just… two more.' Alan thought, his mind having grown even wearier than before from the combination of the drugs effects and the physical exhaustion.

Heading towards the third Straw Dummy, he had to switch to his left hand, even though the damage would be lowered even further, to a mere two points of damage, and sometimes even one, he had no choice, his main arm felt like it was going to fall off already.

*Fsshh*

*Stchhh*

*Fshhh*

*Stcchh*

Swing after swing, he continued, his mind faltering and growing duller and yet his will never once did, it wasn't that he was some disciplined fighter or some kind of monk with immense willpower, it was simply the adrenaline that was still coursing through him, the terror of his interaction with the possesion, they were all emotions that were currently fueling him to go past lengths that would have previously made him give up.

[ Ding! ]

[ User has defeated Straw Dummy. ]

[ User has gained 10 Experience Points ]

[ 1 Bronze Coin has been Looted ]

[ Status ]

[ Alan Walker ]

[ Level 2 ] [ 30/40 Experience Points. ]

'Just one more…. Just need one more.' Alan thought, even his thoughts having mostly cleared, only leaving the desire to defeat the last opponent in his path to what he felt was his survival.

Arriving at the last Straw Dummy, in what could barely be called a walk, it resembled more of a scene if one tried to crawl whilst standing up.

[ -1Hp ]

[ -1Hp ]

[ -1Hp ]

His attack damage had fallen down to one, even with his main arm, his non dominant one had already become useless, not dealing any more damage whilst using it.

It took fourty two long minutes, of taking constant long breaks inbetween each swing to gather his strength once more before each swing, for the thing to finall crack and fall down onto the ground in a heap of straw and wooden sticks that were quickly disappearing into white motes of light.

[ User has leveled up! ]

[ 20 Normal Status Points Gained! ]

Instantly as soon as the notification rang out and the blue holographic system screen panels appeared, Alan felt a rush go throughout his entire body, instantly rejuvenating him as his eyes practically flew open at that very instant, his body that had finally given up on the last hit grew stiff for a moment before relaxing once more.

The fog that had been covering his mind seemed to vanish as if it had never been there in the first place and the physical exhaustion similarly disappeared in an instant.

*Huff*

"Finally, fuckin' hell that took a while. I almost felt like I was going to keel and die right here." Alan muttered as he released a soft sigh and slowly got back up onto his feet.

'Status' He thought as he pulled up the status menu.

[ Status ]

[ Agility: 0/350 ]

[ Luck: 0/500 ]

[ Normal Stat Points Left: 20 ]

'Seem's like I gained ten points in endurance and then five more points in strength from that… that's good. Oh right, and three points in intellgence. That… thats much faster than what I've been gaining until now. Much much faster actually, so training whilst under a debuff actually helped… could I?' Alan thought for a brief moment before he instantly shook his head in disbelief at his own thoughts for a moment.

"Yeah fuck that, hell no. I am not smoking that shit ever again, infact fuck smoking completely and fuck drugs too." Alan said to himself before turning his attention towards the status menu once more and then instantly dumping all of his points into Strength.

[ Strength: 45/150 ]

As soon as it happened, he felt it, it was as if he was able to move more easily, the weight of his own body feeling suddenly lighter than before.

'That was actually a bigger increase than I thought it would be.' Alan thought before he opened up another system menu.

'System Shop.'

Instantly, the system shop holographic panel appeared floating before him.

[ System Shop ]

[ Equipment ]

[ Items ]

[ Potions ]

'Equipment.' Alan thought as he instantly ignored the other two categories and opened the one he was most excited about.

[ System Shop ]

[ Equipment ]

[ Basic Wooden Baseball Bat ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Buy ]

[ Basic Leather Helmet ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Buy ]

[ Basic Leather Chestplate ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Buy ]

[ Basic Leather Leggings ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Buy ]

[ Basic Leather Boots ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Buy ]

'I don't really have any need for any of the armor at the moment considering that I'm not actually fighting anything, merely beating up Straw Dummies, so the only viable choice is the weapon, considering I'd be able to use that to defeat these things faster and thus leading to a higher coin and exp gain for a shorter amount of time.' Alan thought as he lifted his hand and pressed on the buy button with his index finger.

[ Buy Basic Wooden Baseball Bat ] [ Confirm ] [ Decline ]

'Huh, that's actually pretty thoughtful, wouldn't want to buy something else accidentally' Alan thought as he moved his finger and pressed confirm.

[ Ding! ]

[ Basic Wooden Baseball Bat has been bought. ]

[ Ding! ]

[ User has unlocked further System Capabilities. ]

[ System Inventory has been unlocked. ]

'Inventory?' Alan thought instantly as his eyes widened and he quickly summoned up the new system holographic panel.

[ System Inventory ]

[ 1X ] [ Basic Wooden Baseball Bat ] [ Equip ]

[ 998X ] [ Empty ]

Looking at the menu infront of him for a moment, his mind whirling into action as he tried to think of all the ways that he could make use of it before his gaze went downawrds towards the ground where the bread knife had landed when he had fallen down from exhaustion.

Crouching down and taking it into his hand, he lifted the bread knife and pushed it towards the inventory holographic panel, for a moment nothing happened and then almost instantly a split second after, the bread knife started disintegrating into small blute motes of light that were being absorbed by the holographic panel infront of him.

In less than three seconds, the knife was fully gone and so were the blue particles of light.

[ Ding! ]

[ Rusted Bread Knife has been stored. ]

[ System Inventory ]

[ 1X ] [ Rusted Bread Knife ] [ Equip ]

[ 1X ] [ Basic Baseball Bat ] [ Equip ]

Nodding to himself, a small smile appeared on Alan's face as he finally couldn't wait enough and lifted his hand as he clicked on the Equip button.

A moment later, motes of blue light gathered from the system panel and into his hand and quickly converged and combined with themselves and formed the shape of a bat.

A split second later, the wooden bat was in his hand.

Lifting it up to his face and looking at it closely, it looked exactly the same as what the description had promised, it was a wooden baseball bat, simple as that, there was nothing special about it, no colours, no advertisement brands on it, nothing. Just a wooden baseball bat.

'Observe' Alan thought as he looked at the bat.

[ Observe Skill has been used. ]

[ Basic Wooden Baseball Bat ]

[ Age: 1 Minute, 12 seconds. ]

[ +4 ATK ]

[ Description: A basic wooden baseball bat, it was created by the system for the User. ]

'It was created? How? Does it just use magic juju? How can you create something from nothing? What is the system using to create these things and to give me powers?' Alan thought in slight shock but at the same time he understood one thing.

'Dont try to logic with the supernatural, just say thank you.'

Chapter 34 New
Walking towards the next closest Straw Dummy, Alan lifted the basic wooden bat up by his head, planted his feet onto the ground as well as he could and then rotated his hips, generating as much kinetic force as he could with his entire body before slamming the side of the bat directly onto the Straw Dummies, head.

[ Ding! ]

[ Critical Hit! ]

[ -14HP ]

[ Straw Dummy ] [ Level 0 ]

[ Health points: 86/100 ]

'Fourteen…. Fucking fourteen, hell fucking yes babeeey.' Alan thought as he practicaly jumped up in the air from the pure dopamine rushing through his body, his mind instantly whirling into action.

'Seven as a base attack, the thing gives me a plus four in attack, which means that my own base attack has reached three instead of two without it even raising an entire stat in special stats. So normal stats do matter, and they matter more the higher the bigger the special stat is.' Alan thought in pure excitement as he lifted the bat up high once more and swung down onto the head once more with all his force.

[ Ding! ]

[ Critical Hit! ]

[ -14HP ]

'Oh… I am so going to love this.' Alan thought to himself as he once more raised the bat up high in the air.

*Bang*

*Fshhh*

*Bang*

*Fshhh*

*Bang*

..

.

For the next two long hours, Alan kept on going, Straw Dummy after Straw Dummy, the excitement and dopamine keeping him going and even when he got absolutely tired, he could simply rest for a while and even buy a nutritional bar and water with the excess of bronze coins that he now had with him actually being able to defeat the Straw Dummies at a decent rate instead of struggling for entire minutes on just a single one of them.

[ Ding! ]

[ Level Up! ]

….

Half an hour later…

[ Ding! ]

[ Level up! ]

[ User has reached level five! ]

'Finally! Twenty four kills. That took a while but still, much faster than I expected, I thought I'd be stuck on this level for quite a few more days.' Alan thought as he wiped the sweat off his forehead.

His body had already been rejuvenated and his stamina had returned however the sweat wasn't removed, it was still there and now that he felt fresh on the inside, it was even more annoying than when his entire body had been heated up from the physical usage of his muscles.

It was as if hot oil was all over his body, completely and utterly disgusting.

'And im still god damned naked.' Alan thought to himself as he looked down to stare at little odysseus before lifting his gaze back up and staring at the holographic panels that had appeared before him after the level up.

He had ignored it, not thinking much about it, having somewhat grown used to the level up screens and thus he wasn't as excited to read them again and again. However he had missed something as his eyes widened with realisation.

Usually when he leveled up, four small holographic screams appeared, the level up, the user has defeated a straw dummy, the exp gained aswell as the bronze coin that was looted, however this time… there were more. More than he expected, as his eyes widened and pure excitement rushed through his veins for what felt like the hundredth time of the day.

[ Ding! ]

[ User has reached Level Five ]

[ User has unlocked the Slime Dungeon! ]

[ User has received one talent point! ]

[ User has received 20 Normal Stat Points! ]

[ User has unlocked the Talent system! ]

Looking over at the holographic screens and reading them quickly, his eyes seemed to widen somehow even more, almost impossible so as his entire body practically vibrated on the spot.

'Talent system, I have no fucking clue what talents it means, but god am i fucking excited.' Alan thought as he quickly uttered the words.

"Talent system open, open now." He spoke outloud even though he had no need to, for the last few hours he had started doing it, mostly as a way to make some sound in the otherwise completely silent dungeon. Alan was the type of person to be unable to do anything without something making noise in the background, usually it was music, or the sounds of cars on the street or the simple hustle and bustle of people going about their days.

Pure silence almost felt like a sort of torture on its own, and thus his mind had adapted without him even noticing, as he had started to talk his thoughts outloud.

As soon as he uttered the words talent system, a new system panel appeared before him, one that he had never seen before.

[ Talent System ]

[ Talent Points: 1 ]

[ Elf Perk detected ]

[ Warrior Talent Path Disabled. ]

[ Paladin Talent Path Disabled. ]

[ Tank Talent Path Disabled. ]

[ Berserker Talent Path Disabled. ]

One after another, tens of popups appeared before him, each one was some kind of talent being disabled for him.

"Hey, hey stop, fuck stop that shit, I wanna be a bersker, Fuck stop, I wanna be a damn dark edgy knight, I wanna be a god damn manly man. Stop! STOP!" Alan shouted as he tried to wave at the holographic screen however his hands simply passed through whilst the pop ups continued, paths continuously being disabled.

Almost an entire minute later, they finally stopped. By this time however, the excited expression on Alan's face had long since faded and turned into an expression that could only be a combination of Despair and pure rage at the situation happening before him.

'Finally… fucking finally. It stopped… okay, show me what I have, I must have some cool paths left still.' Alan thought as he waved the dozens of popups away and finally stared at the screen once more, for a moment he didnt react at all as he read his options.

There were only three options left.

Only three.

'This… this is what you get? You have got to be….'

Chapter 35 New
'This… this is what I get? From all those hundreds of god damned talents… I get this… bullshit.' Alan thought to himself as he stared at the last three remaining talents before him.

[ Slight Nature's Favour ] [ Level 1 ]

[ Feel slightly more at ease in natural environments. ]

[ When inside a forest gain +1 Agility. ]

[ Faint Nature Attunement. ] [ Level 1 ]

[ Very slight sensitivity to ambient Magic. ]

[ Increases User's perception of Nature and Spirit magic. 0 to 1% ]

[ Slight Natural Archer. ] [ Level 1 ]

[ Bows feel marginally more natural to hold and aim. ]

[ When holding a bow, gain the instant bare bones knowledge on how to use. ]

Reading the descriptions and buffs that each talent granted him, the furious expression on his face slowly dissolved as his eyes narrowed in focus whilst he raised his hand to hin chin and rubbed it softly in thought.

'This… isn't some bad. Slight Nature's favour is interesting but at the current level that it's at, it's just the worst option here. The two that are actually useful are the Faint Nature Attunement and the Slight Natural Archer talent. One gives me the ability to sense magic in the air? Or likely in nature whilst the other instantly lets me learn how to operate a bow, even if its just the basics, it's still not bad at all and all of them are level one which means they can be upgraded.' Alan thought to himself as he slowly sat down onto the grassy field and closed his eyes, it wasn't an easy decision to make as he would soon be entering a different type of dungeon and it would most certainly be much harder than the current one, there would be actual enemy monster inside.

'Let's just rule out the first one instantly, its useless. So, that leaves the other two. I don't have a bow at the moment and neither do I have the money to buy one or the knowledge on how to use one. So yeah, guess there really wasn't much of a choice but even if there was, magic is usually tied with intelligence right? And I do have a maxed out intelligence stat.' Alan thought as he quickly came to a decision and raised his right arm towards the holographic panel infront of him, opened his eyes and used his index finger to click onto the Faint Nature Attunemnet trait.

[ Do you wish to pick 'Faint Nature Attunement' ]

[ Yes. ] [ No. ]

'Yes.'

[ Ding! ]

[ Talent has been selected. ]

[ Closing System Talent window until next selection. ]

[ Ding! ]

[ Faint Nature Attunement has been granted to the user. ]

Even as the system told him that the talent had been granted, he couldn't sense anything, atleast for a moment as his eyes widened slightly in confusion, however he soon noticed the change, it wasn't something he could ignore at all.

A faint sensation of pain was spreading throughout his entire body and then slowly converging towards his forehead.

The pain was mild for a moment, however it was quickly ramping up until the point where he slowly bent on himself, his hands holding his forehead.

'Ahh fuckkk. Why does it hurt so fucking much every fucking time! It's a magic fuckin' system. Make it instant damned it.' Alan thought as he felt the pain turn from a mild headache into what felt like someone was drilling with a screwdriver into his head from all sides at the same time.

And then the pain continued even further, growing exponentially as it moved from the sides of his head and directly into his eyes.

Two lines of blood started falling down, one from each eye, his eyes unable to even be narrowed or closed, the pain was blinding, he couldn't see anything, couldn't feel anything else but the pain that was currently ravaging his eyeballs.

Time passed, he had no idea how long or how quick it had been when the pain suddenly stopped as if a switch had been flipped, leaving as quickly as it had come. As if it had never happened, the only proof that it had even happened and he hadn't hallucinated it were the two lines of dried blood coming from his eyes and down to his chin.

And the other visual change. His eyes had changed just slightly, it wasn't noticeable really, it was barely a change, if at all, however they had gained the slightest bluish green tint to them.

Something that no human could ever notice, it was so small that even a supernaturally enhanced perception would have to try hard to spot the difference between how his eye colour had been and what it was currently.

Putting his hands flat onto the grass and slowly using them to lift himself up, Alan stood on his feet and looked around.

Everything appeared normal at least until his gaze fell upon one of the Straw Dummies.

It majorly looked the same, with the exception of the very miniscule and faint bluish aura that seemed to coat each part of the dummies, enveloping them in a faint bubble that was barely noticeable.

Walking closer to one of them curiously, he noticed it in closer detail.

He could barely see it, yet it was undoubtedly there.

'Is the thing covering it mana? So these things are made of it? Not actually real materials. In that case wouldn't that also?' Alan thought to himself as he quickly brought out both the basic wooden baseball bat and the rusted bread knife and held one in each of his hands.

As his eyes moved from the bat to the knife, he quickly confirmed his theory.

'Everything that the system has is giving off a slight magical aura thing, but the knife doesn't have one at all.' Alan thought as he noticed the slight mana enveloping the entirety of the baseball bat and yet the bread knife didn't have even a flicker of it. It was just that, a regular rusted bread knife that he had found in his run down kitchen drawer.

Chapter 36 New
Putting the rusted bread knife back into his inventory, Alan sat down as he held the baseball bat in his hands and then slowly lifted his hand to try and interact with the blue aura surrounding it.

'Could I use the observe skill on it now?' Alan thought to himself as he instantly tried it out a moment after.

'Observe' He thought as he gazed at the light blue sheen covering the baseball bat.

[ Observe Skill has been used. ]

[ Basic Baseball Bat. ]

[ A basic item created out of mana upon purchase of the user in the system. ]

'It doesn't tell me about it specifically but the description changed, it actually did, my theory was correct, the system uses mana to create stuff, just like the straw dummies, now the question isn't how its creating matter anymore, the question is how is it getting this mana and from where is it getting it from.' Alan thought to himself as he got one step closer and yet at the same time he was still so very far away from gaining actual deeper insight into the workings of the system that had taken over his life and even changed him so much in just two short days.

'I mean… I could try, It's not like I'll lose anything.' Alan thought as an idea hit him.

He had seen old chinese movies before about how cultivation worked and about chi, and all those kinds of superpowers, even had read some manga from the local Forks library quite a long time ago that had shown mana and similar concepts.

'Maybe if i can just feel it, and somehow will it to move?' Alan thought as he quickly tried perceiving the mana of the baseball bat in his hands.

For a few moment, he didn't notice anything and neither did he perceive anything at all.

Time passed slowly as his thoughts slowly cleared out, leaving him with only that singular objective, something he had quite quickly adapted to do after what felt like his impossible run of defeating the Straw Dummies whilst utterly exhausted physically.

Having closed his eyes, his sight was gone. His mind had fully cleared out aswell, leaving only the singular thought and will of trying to perceive anything besides the wooden texture of the baseball bat.

One minute turned into two, and then into five and ten.

Half an hour later, finally something changed in his perception.

It was soft at first, barely noticeable, a small soft substance, it was like water that was moving around his hand and yet it wasnt touching it , it was all around his hands where the were gripping the basic wooden baseball bat.

Slowly but surely the feeling grew stronger and stronger and at that very moment, a thought appeared on his mind as he tried to actually grab a hold of the mana.

[ Ding! ]

Instantly, a notification bell like sound rang inside his mind, breaking his concentration completely as his eyes snapped open and the feeling of having perceived and almost touched the mana disappearing once more entirely.

[ User has managed to fully perceive mana and has thus created a skill! ]

[ Mana Perception ] [ Level 1 ]

[ Grants the user the ability to perceive mana upon usage. ]

'Mana perception?' Alan thought as instantly he felt it, the same water like consistency returning around his arms, this time he wasn't clear minded, and neither had he removed his sight, looking down at the baseball bat that he was holding, the aura around it that before was barely noticeable was now clearly more defined, it was like a soft slightly tinted clear bubble around the weapon.

'Right… well that removes the process of me having to master this quite a lot easier.' Alan thought to himself however he had to stop as he heard the notification like sound ring once more.

[ Ding! ]

[ User has used a mana based skill. ]

[ User has unlocked his Mana Pool. ]

'My mana pool?' Alan thought excitedly instantly as he pulled up his status menu, there he didn't see just a single change, he saw two, one that he hadn't expected to be there.

[ Status ]

[ Name: Alan Walker ]

[ Age: 18 ]

[ Race: Human 88%, Elf 12% ]

[ Gender: Male ]

[ Level: 5 ] [ Xp: 0/320XP ]

[ MP : 240/244 ] [ -4 Mp per minute due to activation of 'Mana Perception' ]

[ S.P.E.C.I.A.L ]

[ S: 3 ]

[ P: 5* ] [ +2 Equipment Boost Active ]

[ E: 6 ]

[ C: 10 ]

[ I: 10 ]

[ A: 7 ]

[ L: 10 ]

[ Abilities: ]

[ Talents: Faint Nature Attunement ( Level 1 ) ]

[ Perks: Elf ]

[ Coins: 25 Bronze Coin ]

[ Normal Stats ]

[ Strength: 50/150 ]

[ Perception: 0/150 ]

[ Endurance: 15/300 ]

[ Charisma: 5/500 ]

[ Intelligence: 10/500 ]

[ Agility: 0/350 ]

[ Luck: 0/500 ]

[ Normal Stat Points Left: 40 ]

[ Skills: Observation, Mana Perception. ]

Looking at his status menu, his eyes first fell upon the change that had been done to his race, it was a two percent difference from before but it was still one of if not the most alarming this in the entire holographic status panel before him.

'I'm more elf now? How did that… right, when i got the perk, it was clearly a elf related perk, and the pain that went through my body, I guess that explains that, my very dna got changed once again.' Alan thought as he released a soft sigh, closing his eyes for a moment in exasperation before opening them and looking further bellow at the new line, his mana pool.

'Two hundred and forty four… that's a bit of an odd number, usually its like one hundred… if one hundred is the base and i have an intelligence of ten which is double the average of a human then it would be two hundred, but im also part elf twelve percent to be exact so could it be that an average elf has two hundred mana pool? But because of my really high special intelligence stat, that also got boosted, and for twelve percent which should have just been twenty two points, i instead got forty four?' Alans mind instantly analysed the change as he quickly came up with a basic theory.

Chapter 37 New
'Alright, next order of business, is trying to somehow influence this thing.' Alan thought to himself as he kept his mana perception on, feeling the watery mana around the bat as he tried to manipulate it.

Minutes passed, he tried everything he could think of.

Simply willing the mana to move, trying to grab it and then change its flow, trying to atleast create a barrier with his hand around the bat.

Nothing.

Not a single thing worked at all.

'God damned, just how hard can it be to learn this damned…' Alan thought to himself before releasing a soft sigh of exasperation as he put the baseball bat back into his inventory.

'I'll try that later, I'm likely doing something completely wrong or going about it in the complete opposite direction. I have to find more clues or somehow just stumble upon one randomly, and I dont have the time for that, not when I wanna try that out first.' Alan thought as his mind went back to the dungeon he had just unlocked.

'The slime dungeon, thats finally a fantasy monster dungeon, but that also means that it's much more dangerous than this, damned… guess I can't just not buy them.' Alan thought to himself as he sighed, he had tried to push this as far as he could however there was no way to just jump into a dungeon in which he knew he would actually have to fight enemies whilst still being completely bare butt naked.

[ System Shop. ]

[ Equipment ] [ Open ]

[ Basic Leather Helmet ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Bought ]

[ Basic Leather Chestplate ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Bought ]

[ Basic Leather Leggings ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Bought ]

[ Basic Leather Boots ] [ Level 1 ] [ 5 Bronze Coins ] [ Bought ]

[ Ding! ]

[ User has bought a complete leather gear set. ]

[ Does User wish to equip? ]

[ Yes ] [ No ]

'Yeah, equip that already, I can finally stop going around with my thing swinging around… who am i kidding… as if it's that big.' Alan thought inwardly as he clicked the yes button instantly with his index finger.

A mere moment later, light motes appeared all around his body as the suit of armor started materialising around him quickly, it started at his chest and started expanding all over him.

In less than five seconds, he wasn't naked anymore but rather wearing dark brown leather gear from head to toe.

Looking down at himself, and moving his hands around and kicking a few times in the air with his legs, he quickly checked his mobility in the gear.

'It's actually really good, and it's damn light aswell, and it feels firm enough and a bit thick. It should stop a decent amount of attacks.' Alan thought as he knocked on his leather chest plate twice.

The leather gear was simple enough, a large leather piece on his front and back tied together with leather straps to one another, whilst under the leather was a super light black mesh material that covered the gaps, his forearms and shoulders were similarly covered in plates of leather connected with leather straps and the same went for his legs.

The boots were simple enough, giving him maybe an inch and a half life in height and were clearly made to be as durable and long lasting as possible.

'These should be good even in snowy conditions or in Ice, that's nice. But man, this actually feels like real leather, I wonder how expensive something like this would be to buy in the real world, maybe I could even sell it? But I have no idea where i would sell combat leather gear? Maybe to some kind of enthusiasts on the internet?' Alan thought to himself before shaking his head, it simply wasn't worth it at the moment to start dealing with real life money, he had other much more pressing problems than his financial situation.

"Alright, now with this, I should be pretty good to go, but slimes are said to be corrosive and like dissolve things in fiction right? A bat… is it really the correct thing to bring? It worked well against the Straw Dummies as it was blunt force however against something like a slime?" Alan muttered as his mind went to other possible weapons he could grab.

"Right, I guess I should atleast go and buy a regular kitchen knife… and then I could tie it around like a broom stick with some rope and tape? I'll check that out before I head inside actually, better prepared than dead." Alan said to himself as he quickly pressed the exit dungeon button.

[ System Dungeon. ]

[ Straw Dummy ] [ Level 1 ] [ Leave ] [ Yes ] [ Confirmed. ]

His vision quickly started darkening as his other senses similarly started fading one after the other, just like every other time that he had entered or left the dungeon.

A second or two later, he found himself back on his bed laid down, in his regular clothes just as he had been before jumping into the dungeon.

'God, I don't even know how I got here with how high I was, I'm surprised that I didn't just completely forget my way back home. I guess, I'm lucky that even with the major debuff to intelligence, it was still at five or I would have been doing some… oh fuck, If the debuffs you get are as insane as the ones to Strength and Perception… wouldn't I have just spilled everything about the system or something equally as bad to that thing that possessed Jeannie? Fuck… that could have been really fucking bad.' Alan thought to himself as he got up and walked to his desk drawer and pulled it open, taking out all of his meager savings.

Barely sixty two dollars that he had somehow managed to gather up whilst still feeding himself and having decent enough clothes that he could actually head to school with.

'Alright, time for a quick store run.' Alan thought as he turned and headed out.

Chapter 38 New
Walking out of the apartment and looking up at the sky, he saw the moon had already risen up and the night had fallen upon Forks.

'Guess that limits my options to just that corner store that works twenty four seven. Haah… and it's got the shittiest quality and it's more expensive than everywhere else… But i really don't want to wait until tomorrow.' Alan thought as he released a soft sigh and continued walking down the sidewalk.

The walk to the cornerstore took around twenty minutes, opening the door and heading inside the shop, a clear bell sound rang out, notifying the store clerk that someone had come inside.

Raising a hand in a half hearted wave as a silent greeting, Alan quickly turned and walked towards the appliances section, it wasn't large, it was small and it clearly had only small overpriced kitchen knives that would likely chip after a few uses at most.

'Can't be choosy but i sure as hell can know which one is better.' Alan thought as he instantly focused his gaze onto the first knife infront of him.

'Observe'

[ Observe skill has been used! ]

[ Name: Kitchen Knife ]

[ ATK: + 3 ]

[ Description: A regular, below average quality Kitchen Knife created in China. ]

[ Age: 3 Years and 2 Months. ]

'That's… barely better than my rusted bread knife.' Alan thought to himself, releasing a soft sigh of despair as he saw the twenty five dollar price tag on the knife.

Turning his gaze to the only two other options, he quickly used his observe skill on both.

[ Name: Kitchen Knife ]

[ ATK: +3 ]

[ Description: A fake version of a famous japanese Kitchen knife, created in China. ]

[ Age: 2 Years and two months. ]

[ Name: Kitchen Knife. ]

[ ATK: +4 ]

[ Description: A regular kitchen knife created in China. Average Quality. ]

[ Age: 1 Year and three months. ]

'Alright, finally atleast average, and the attack stat is four, thats on the same level as my baseball bat, let's check the… huh, its the cheapest one aswell.' Alan thought to himself as his eyes moved to the price tag bellow the knife.

'Fifteen dollars isn't half bad. Now, I just need to find something to tie it around a stick with.' He thought as he grabbed the knife and moved towards another section of the store, however it seemed they didn't have any rope on stock.

'Ofcourse they dont have god damned rope, its a cornerstore, not an appliances or work store. Still, they do have some super glue… that could work.' Alan thought to himself as he grabbed three different kinds of the glue aswell as a roll of double sided tape and went to the counter and put them down before the clerk.

Looking at the young man behind it, who was clearly barely awake, an idea struck Alan as he didn't place the bottles of super glue onto the table at all.

'Store.' He thought an in an instant the bottles of superglue turned into small motes of light under the hem of his clothes and vanished as if they had never been there at all.

'That's enough, don't wanna rob something like a knife in case the owner finds out and this poor guy has to pay for it out of his own paycheck.' Alan thought to himself as he placed the roll of tape and the knife onto the counter before using observe on the clerk.

[ Name: James Moriarity. ]

[ Age: 22 ]

[ Description: A young man with a failed life. System would suggest he gave up. ]

Looking at the description that the observe skill had given the young man, Alan almost felt like laughing out loud, it was one of the few times that the system had given something even remotely close to this ever since the special stats descriptions at the beginning, however he refrained, considering no one else was able to see the holographic panels, and it was currently late at night, he was sure that he would looked like a drugged up mentally insane person and that would most likely stop the guy from even selling the knife to him.

"That'll be twenty one dollars." James spoke as he quickly scanned both items for Alan who brought out a twenty dollar bill and a one dollar one and put them onto the counter whilst the clerk quickly put both items into a plastic bag for him and handed them over.

Grabbing the bag, Alan turned around and walked out of the store and looked around the street, it was clearly empty, not even the sound of cars or anything from the houses around him, everyone had likely already fallen asleep by this time.

'I'd never have thought that I'd be out this late either. Man… this shit looks haunted.' Alan thought to himself as he started walking down the side walk at a quick pace whilst looking behind him every once in a while.

'No ones there, no one's there, I am a grown adult, I am not scared of the dark. I even met supernatural magician bullshit and I wasn't scared at all.' Alan thought as his pace slowly increased as he continued down the road.

'Ah fuck, who am i kidding.' Alan thought as he was practically almost running by this point.

It had taken him twenty minutes, returning had only take him half that time as he arrived at his apartment and closed the door barely ten minutes after having left the corner store.

Walking towards his chair by the desk, he quickly pulled out all that he had got from the store as he unpacked the knife and brought out the superglue from his inventory and then put the double sided tape onto the desk aswell.

'Alright, guess I'll be without a broom. Not that I ever used that thing in the first place.' Alan thought as he grabbed the broom that had been gathering dust for years from under his desk.

'Just need to somehow… take the head off… and with my three damned strength… It's not going to be easy is it?'
