Safe For Work Worm Ideas thread

Cody gets left behind. Oliver gets his vial, and Noelle gets a full glass of Brute/Changer with a side order of Trump.
That fits with my headcanon that Cody was a short-sighted, selfish asshole all on his own, without Ziz doing much more than nudging him a tiny bit. If true, a good Simugh would leave him behind.

And on a completely different subject, I had an idea a long time ago that I never did anything with. Given what happened today, I feel this is an appropriate time to post this.

------------------------------

Taylor walked slowly through the dark corridor, the power to the overhead lights long since shut down. Her flashlight cast a pale, golden light over the walls. Even without it, she could smell the mold growing on the ancient tiles. She stepped over a broken, half rotted crate and pushed through a tattered, grey sheet of cloth to the main room. Half a dozen long tables covered most of the room, though they were as broken as everything else. One was smashed clean in half, while another was more splinters and shards of metal than a table anymore. The wide front windows had once let the sunlight in to the party room, but a solid decade of dust and grime had left them completely opaque.

But none of that interested Taylor. Her entire focus was on the stage at the front of the room. And the three worn metal figures slumped over on it. The instant she saw them, ideas bloomed in her mind, overriding all thought with designs and blueprints that a regular engineer couldn't even fathom. "Good afternoon everyone," she said happily. She hefted a small toolbox in her other hand and set the flashlight down to give her enough light to work while she dug out a bottle of oil and a screwdriver. "You know," she said, her tone soft and conversational. "I owe you guys a lot. My powers were useless until I found this place." In theory, have a tinker power that told you how to build robots was awesome. In practice, building a robot more than a foot across took way more materials than what a teenage could get without provoking a lot of questions.

"I was stuck doodling blueprints in my notebooks until I found this place." She pulled out a rag and poured some oil on to it before she started to wipe down one of the first animatronic's joints. She was sure that they would have collapsed in to a pile of parts by now is the rust hadn't locked all their joints in place years ago. Just getting enough rust off to get at the screws was a headache and a half. "Now, this will only feel weird for a second." She chuckled to herself. "God, I'm actually talking like you can feel it…" She carefully began to unscrew its lower arm, stopping only to pour a bit of oil to loosen the fastenings. The arm finally came free with an ear-grating grinding sound. Taylor winced. "Right, next time use more oil."

She set the arm aside. "I'll go find you another one from the parts room. There are still a few that were packed up well enough to keep them from rusting over. Just hang on a minute." She absently patted the machine on the shoulder, her hand brushing against the moldering remains of what must have been the skin, or costume, or whatever covered the robotic endo-skeletons. It looked like it might have been furry at one point. Or maybe that was just the kind of mold growing on it. It was hard to tell.

Taylor left her tools behind and made her way down the other hallway to the dilapidated parts room. A fourth endo-skeleton lay across a table, looking rather pitiful and half its parts covered in rust and dirt. "I still don't know who you're supposed to be," Taylor said with a sigh. "But I'll work on you once I've gotten the three on the stage taken care of and I give the fox back in the cove a look over. Sorry you have to wait so long." She patted its head and went to the shelves. Most of the parts had suffered the same degradation as the animatronics, but some were still packed and sealed up enough to protect them from time and the leaky roof. She dug through two drawers before she found the one she wanted.

She whistled softly to herself as she made her way back to the party room and began to refit the band leader with his new arm. "There we go," she said with a smile, tightening the last screw in place. "You're almost done now." Over the last few days, she'd gone through every single part on the lead animatronic, slowly digging out usable parts from the service room and replacing all of the corroded ones on the actual machine. "Soon you'll be good as new. All I need is some wiring to connect your servos to the circuits in that bit head of yours and you'll actually be able to move again."

That… was a bit more a problem than she wanted to admit. The wires hadn't been stored nearly as well as the mechanical parts and buying enough wiring to rewire all five machines was a bit out of her budget right now. Good copper wire was fucking expensive. Not to mention the laptop she'd have to get to hook up to their motherboards. Thankfully, those had been decently protected inside the robotic shells, but they were still horribly outdated. She'd probably have to scoop all the programming off them, then replace the circuits and reinstall everything.

She heard the sound of metal grinding and looked up. The machine she was working on had slumped over, its head now pointed down and its eyes staring straight at her. The eyelids had fallen slightly, almost giving it a sad expression. Taylor chuckled again. "No need to worry about me big guy," she said, even though it had to have been a coincidence. "Just thinking about what I need to do to get you guys patched up." She pushed the head back up so it was looking forward again. She brushed off her hands and stood up. "Alright, let me go get the other arm and you'll be all set to go." She smiled. "Don't go anywhere while I'm gone, okay Freddy?"

Rebuild (Worm/FNaF)

We Are The... (D&D 3.5)

From her vantage point on the roof of a near by building Taylor watched the shirt-less man covered in tattoos and a iron-mask say he was going to kill kids. Among other things, that she couldn't make out, followed by her cursing herself for forgetting prepare Comprehend Languages that morning. She turned to the creation of metal, wood, and stone and spoke," One, two, three, kick it."

An army of similar machine-like beings started to march out from the alley ways, and one in the back started to strum a guitar. With mechanical precision the army a hundred strong started to sing in unison, "Through the fire and flame, our weapons ignite. Dragonfire INSPIRATION!" Swords and claws of gleaming steel, burst into flame as the bard struck the chord.

"We are the WARFORGED!" they chanted in unison. The girl on the roof dropped down from her perch." I am the artificer."

"Shoot them," the dragon did yell. His outburst finished with," Give them hell."

"Wall of Stone," chanted the mages of metal, and thus formed a stone shell.

"We are the WARFORGED!" The army did chant. The girl in steam-punk gear said with a bellow "I am an optimizer"

After getting out of the hospital (due to the locker, not any of her later injuries), Taylor gets the idea to go and talk to a reporter (maybe she saw something on TV or in the paper and got inspired). Doing some research, she picks a fairly good one, a woman who wrote a couple of positive articles about the Dockworkers Association (actually rather neutral ones, but positive compared to most of the other articles she found in her research), and some rather negative ones about corrupt public officials - sure, she didn't need to do all this, what happened to her would be gold for just about any reporter, but she did want a competent one.

The woman listens to her, becoming more and more horrified as the conversation goes on, and then does her own research, confirming it and seeing that things were rather worse than she thought. The articles are going to bring down a number of people in city government, and bring the wrath of not just the county school board, but the state governor, down on the Winslow administration (also, on either the local police, or possibly the PRT, depending on who should have been investigating - if the police were even told; legally, they absolutely should have been, but Winslow is shitty, and the hospital may have thought someone else would have called the police; if you go with the idea that Sophia's presumed PRT handler took away the case and sat on it, Piggot is going to be most wroth).

I'm not sure if she finds out about Shadow Stalker, but for purposes of this idea, it is not illegal for a reporter to out a Ward, particularly when said Ward has been involved in criminal activity after signing up. In many ways, it doesn't matter, because the moment Piggot reads the article, Sophia is in deep shit.

I've had a similar idea, although rather than a reporter doing the job, an E88 member was recording the locker incident, specifically Sophia doing the deed as well as getting a decent shot of what was in the locker before Taylor was shut inside.

This is absolute gold, possibly platinum, for E88 and the story gets plastered absolutely everywhere to the point that the PRT has no time and no hope of ever covering it up or spinning it at all. Yeah, E88 sends some help Taylor's way, but they're more focused on destroying Sophia and using her to advance their agenda than they are about helping Taylor beyond doing what is required to look good for the public.

That's being done (apparently, though the last few parts don't go into it) in Touch, a fic Potato Nose is doing on SB and SV.

How would this change canon Worm? I mean the world is used to superhumans and they are killers and city destroyers and this is before the parahumans showup.

If you like that you should try The Second Super

The main character is a normal kid living in the heartland when the first super rises. Completely beyond the Earth's ability to injure he goes insane after his family is killed in retaliation for the murders he committed and turns every major city into his own personal demolition derby/playground.

Then the main character gets powers. Great read.

I'd love a genre of Worm stories to develop like the 'Ship of the Line challenge' like in Buffy fandom. Taylor gets Tinker lowers from a universe that compels her to build Space ships or master powers where she can manifest one.

I am reminded of the game Escape Velocity Nova, and the Vellos race within.

One of the odder things that come out of worm fanfic is the tendancy for every bloody story to delve into the local online message boards. It's just sort of one of the automatic cliches for wormfic. With the same usernames and Void Cowboy being a hated idiot. The result is often a self-demonstration of why some darling's should be skewered with the end of a rusty blade and left to bleed on the floor.

Sometimes, they should be set aside. I remain unsure whether it was a useful exercise or not, but it took far more effort than expected. Tone. Texture. Ripping off usernames.

Fuckit. Lets do it.

Okay. You see This thread here. Now, that's an Emipre Safehouse in the Richmond getting hit by Glory Girl and some n00b.

Up until a week ago the Richmond was solid ABB.

This whole Lung getting captured thing has really upset the apple cart we all knew. Three days ago two [slurs] knocked in asking for their monthly protection.

This morning two peckerwoods knock on the door and tell me I'm part of the Empire now and they want their pound of flesh before the end of the week, to get on the right side before the Day of the Rope comes to Brockton.

This is fucking ridiculous.

(User Warned for this post. Comment by Judge: Really? I get the frustration, but keep it civil)

Since I need to do more.

Brockton Bay's newest entry onto the cape scene took the unusual step of sending a recording back to home base, in case he got into trouble while testing some new gear. He hurt his leg somehow, and we join him making his way through the Richmond trying to get home.

In summary.

*Glory Girl mistakes him for a Nazi. He dodges her attack. Panty shot.
*They team up.
*Cleavage shot of Glory Girl
*Panacea makes an appearance and defuckulates his leg.
*We move through the streets of Brockton Bay Docklands riding some sort of wire-swing contraption.
*We arrive at an Empire 88 holdout.
*Info-chan is the voice on the other end of the line.
*Cleavage shot of Glory Girl.
*We swing over to the roof to be challenged by a sentry
*Speak 14 words to enter.
*Sneak in and around, gathering intelligence.
*'Make America Great again', the new fascist slogan.
*Violence happens.
*Cleavage shot of Glory Girl.
*Skinhead who put a woman in hospital gets put in hospital.
*Stream cuts somewhat abruptly, like whatever it ran off ran out of data.

Now. What does this tell us about our new wannabee?

Name seems to be Jaeger.

Probably whoever was making the recording. Home base support on speed-dial. Gotta love it. It's the most useful talent ever.

It means we're not dealing a complete moron. Sure he's alone, in a dark part of town with untried gear in an unkind world, but he's at least got someone watching his ass to call 9-1-1 if he gets in trouble.

And that someone's smart enough to grab building plans on a minute's notice, and probably relaying what's she watching on screen to Miss Prom Queen on the roof, since he's busy doing the whole heiling and marching and marching and heiling thing down below. (And creepily well for a non-Nazi…)

Smart enough not to go charging in without scoping the place out first. Dumb enough to think going in there pretending to be a Nazi is a good idea. Lucky enough to pull it off.

Kid's got potential.

Especially if you take the little lie of just being out to test some gear at face value.

Sex: Male

Provisional evaluation is:
Tinker 3. (Mover 3).

You might want to fix the underline tag, there, but it's pretty good otherwise.

Unrelated idea: What if Marquis hadn't become a villain, and had instead been a hero? Even as a villain, he had a strict code of what he would not do, it's just that what he would do was terrible enough to get him sent to the Birdcage (and I doubt it was a railroad job like poor Canary). A slightly less inclusive code of honour, a few different experiences, and he could have been a great hero. What would Brockton Bay have been like, from there?

Ta. Keeps breaking shit.

'Make America Great Again' was supposed to act as a date point. That's become a slogan in our world before the protagonist left. The whole thing wasn't just slammed together. It wasn't just a snap joke.

I had a lot of things in mind, beyond trying to have them....

The first one at face value is setting up Bakuda's station of the canon, while also taking a look at what the general state of things is. The Empire's bullish. And also a joke from a neighbour who's overheard the activities at the end of the third segment and drawn the wrong. conclusions. Lib1rn is supposedly Lisa Wilbourn, gathering information. (Too many people use The All Seeing Eye, it's a bloody cliche). It's setting up the sense that something is about to come to a head (And not necessarily the canon something either)

Second part, I might've overthought. Someone's looking at the closest thing to home. It's a thread that's been looked at (Hence the page 22), but then ignored for a long time. There's supposed to be some sort a sense of alienation and seperation from it. Even if it is a little amusing. (Also, The Hairy Lemon and Bang Bang really did exist - it's a long story). Maybe thinking about 'home'. Some of these are somewhat 'Irish' memes. An American audience isn't supposed to get them....

The third part is ringing bells for more than a few things:
Actually reveal what the video might've been like and give it a soundtrack. And add some self-deprecation.
Bernstein Beer is to show that the city has a Jewish community that's getting hassled (I think.... Yiddish idioms != my thing and i didn't want to overdo it)
Dendromedary's comment about this not being put together in one night is telling - both because it sort of was, and wasn't at the same time.
Posting the video has revealed a lot about his power. Enough for people to make guesses....
....That may still be wrong. Hence Void Cowboy makes a reasonably insightful point, he's wrong, but not stupid. It's a logical enough conclusion. (Contrary to his usual fandom portrayal)
KNO's postings, and the comment about Fighting Monsters are meant to foreshadow something upcoming. See the Nazi's being bullish up above for further hints.
Tiron Heel indicates that Kaiser is, on some level, being made aware of Jaeger. The link being the phrase 'Day of the Rope', and the reference to The Turner Diaries. (I feel so dirty). The phrase will appear again. It's supposed to be a touchstone.
In related news, Lehane's specific comment about the Jaeger/Hunter comparison is also supposed to be just a little telling in light of the above. Something about hate. Something the use of 'Make America Great Again' touches on too.
It's also finally the only way I could think of to reveal that the Protectorate already knew about the kid - they gave him a codename, which (while also being both an in-joke, is another slice of foreshadowing for the future, considering the original 'Chariot') indicates they know a lot more than he thinks. Which is an important hint that other people have plans first person perspective cannot know.
The Protectorate, on some level, even individually, are trying to reach out and be competent and helpful rather than be an omnipresent bullying authority.

And I've probably overwrought the whole bloody thing, but so it goes.

Even the title is a reference to the Victorian trope of random white guy showing up knowing better than the savage natives and leading them to salvation from their wicked and uncivilised ways....... like so many other SI fics.

Nobody'll ever notice or make the links. Like decrypting the voyager record. Fanfic is what you are in the dark.

Ta. Keeps breaking shit.

'Make America Great Again' was supposed to act as a date point. That's become a slogan in our world before the protagonist left. The whole thing wasn't just slammed together. It wasn't just a snap joke.

.... I have very little idea what was said so I'm just going to go with this one. I'd highly suggest changing that screenname because when I read it I read Laborne, which is of course brian and Aisha's last names.

That's also intentional.

It's supposed to be TT. But, y'know, it'd be a bit silly if it was glaringly obvious with a giant arrow in it.
