Again, true. Naruto IS a victim, but he's not flawless - he doesn't help his situation at all by the way he acts, even if the way he acts is entirely understandable.
It's not the pointing out that Naruto is a victim irritates me, it's brushing his mistakes under the rug that offends.
I would go even further than understandable. He had no one to teach social graces, and thus has none.
He has no attention, and thus does what all younglings are evolved to do in that situation.
There is another believable way I see his early life varying by personality. He COULD'VE been a book hermit, on the grounds that books don't judge, belittle, or ignore him. He'd have been screwed up still, but in a different way.
Human beings don't come out of that situation well, and the fact he was only as neurotic as he was is a testament to his optimistic outlook and mental fortitude.
