Size Limit (or size preference) for proxied images?

I've noticed that sometimes an image will refuse to be proxied, and when I go back and look at the source image, it's usually on the large size.

Is there a size limit for images? Or even a soft-limit on image size that the admins would prefer?

If so then I can scale images to be smaller, but I'd like to know the preferred size in order to know when that's necessary.

Currently there's no size limit configured. If you're having failures with larger images, it's probably due to the server-side downloads failing, which is harder to get a handle on.

Yeah and it might even be the image sharing site cutting off the transfer after some span of time, which is going to be even trickier.

But is there any preference for smaller or mid-sized images? Or should I just re-host the full-sized images somewhere more reliable?

Lots of online service ratelimit requests per IP basis or on the basis of some other suspicious behaviors to prevent scraping and DDoS, so probably the proxy gets blacklisted for a while when it hits some services.
I had a lot of lag/trouble adding direct links to rule34, for example.
Size wise I haven't really hit problems.
You could try and reach out to the admins of rule 34 and the various boorus and ask for whitelisting, which might improve performance.
TBH this proxy can be a pretty big annoyance when it fails.
