The Council's Road, Not Taken (Kaguya-sama/Oregairu Spinoff)

[X] Work normally

Hikigaya doesn't like overworking, but he also doesn't like when people intentionally slack off. He's the type that just does the work to the necessary level, and not much further because the extra effort isn't usually necessary unless you're some addle-pated riajuu with delusions of youth(!). But being intentionally lazy and putting work on other people is also a sin in his eyes because it makes you a trash that's intentionally hindering others.

So, work normally, and achieve what is necessary. Don't over work, don't under work. Normal work. We'll work at our own normal pace.

Because remember - this vote is for how much work we put in relative to our own 8man!standards. Therefore, going easy means going easy by Hikigaya's standards (a sin), and going hard means going hard by his standards (even greater sin).

So the obvious answer should be Working Normally by the 8man's standards! That way, you don't piss people off by working less than you should be working, and you don't exhaust yourself working more than you feel like.

[x] Be proactive

Hachiman might be a slacker at heart, but if he went through the effort to get into a school like Shuchiin then he would work hard if only because of a sunken cost fallacy.

You can buy another motorcycle for around 250.000-300.000 yen.
You can buy smaller motorcycle for around 150.000 Yen (Can't go to highway, a bit pointless unless you're super desperate for cash)
You can buy bigger, up to 450cc for maximum flex. 500.000-600.000+ Yen
(Need to be 18 years old to get anything bigger)

Current treasury:
25.000 Yen disposable cash (food and housing already accounted)
250.000 Yen company stock (volatile, remember to check weekly)
~1.250.000 Yen bank account (0% interest)

Current status of property:
3LDK Renthouse w/ free parking for 2 bikes (100.000 Yen/month, paid by parents)
3LDK means 3 bedroom, living room, dinner-kitchen facility.

Will be updated properly in status reserve later

Hikki thinks he is at the bottom with Miyuki, but he is more like one or two levels above that.
One level actually. Hachiman is 'bottom average' on Shuchiin Hierarchy, not much different than say, Iino. He's still nominally under Ishigami and Erika, but the difference between them is smaller than the difference between Erika and Karen.

Also, Rank 4 is basically bottom 1% of the entire Shuchiin.

You decided to learn and work diligently.

Part of you felt that it was pointless. To work is to lose, that was something that both you and your father agreed. Unlike normal subjects in mandatory classes, elective classes have no objective grading and examination. It was purely there to fill in for wasted weekdays so that students won't be idle or waste their youth in dangerous stunts, while at the same time learning at their own relaxed pace.

However, at the same time, you also believe that hard works always go rewarded. Unlike dreams who betray the most, hard work betrays none.

Part of you still a bit stiff when communicating with people, but it was hardly as bad as it was in middle school. Shirogane Miyuki had been helpfully teaching you at the very least to stop looking creepy in front of people.

Being proactive allowed you to get closer to people who nominally away from your reach, especially when you caught their interest. No one dislikes hard worker, people only dislike tryhard attention seeker. And you're not, you work only for yourself.

The attention you get can be a blessing or a curse, being the center of attention can be tiring and too much hassle.

"What it means to be a journalist?"

What an idle question, but also a very important one.

"Someone who writes a journal about an ongoing or recent event." would be the literal answer to that question.

"Ehhhh?!"

Ah, there goes again, your trauma is coming back. What's with girls and laughing incessantly over the smallest thing? It always confused you out, so you decided to smile at her in response. Nice girls are truly the worst!

"You're too hilarious!" Shijo Maki laughed incredulously, her twin tail flailed as she did.

And then there's this bitch!

"Then let me ask something back in response." You tell them, "What's the most important aspect of a news piece?"

"It has to be up to date, what use of news about things that people already know." Shijo huffed arrogantly, seriously this girl's ego is bigger than the collective heads of this class can contain.

"Umm, it has to be appealing or catchy?" Kashiwagi guessed, "I mean people need to be interested to know about it in the first place."

"It has to be accurate and authentic." Kino and Kose say, somewhat seriously. As expected of die-hard Mass Media club members, they embody the true core of journalism. Nevertheless, ideological purity never brings you anywhere in this corrupt and unjust world...

The girls ended up arguing among themselves right in front of you, and you're being ignored completely now. That's not shocking actually, that's more or less expected.

You're just an unknown mob in this group, this would not change whether you got to Shuchiin or not...

These four must be really close friends.

Do not worry, any of these answers will be described in Hachiman's internal logic rather than good or bad. So pick one to your heart's content.

I want to say [ ] Stay quiet. But i'll go with [X] Agree with Kino and Kose (Accurate), since 8man thinks that anyway and if he is going to pick a side it's best to go with the one that has the most people on it.

Inaccurate news maybe get us concrete boot or exile to Cambodia in the future.
